  1. I completly understand the whole foods concept..but sometimes (actually most of the time) I just want to grab something and munch without cooking. I get tired of just fruits..or carrots, cucumbers etc., for snacks. I like crispy/crunchy things. I thought rice cakes were the perfect munchable thing? The ones I have were bought at Aldi's grocery and are their...
  2. Fairy Dancer...it really sounds like you have Celiac, or at least a very strong intollerance? Whetever the blood tests show it would be good for you to keep it out of your diet. I've been thinking I have an additional problem with soy because I've been gluten-free for about 4 weeks and recently have started to get severe dizziness for no apparent reason...
  3. I think you really should be tested for Celiac. You'd be surprised how most Dr.s fail to "connect the dots" on symptoms and don't order a Celiac test for patients with very strong symptoms. A lot of them think it's a rare disease...but it's not! With the family history I'd say it would be wise to get tested. You need to know so you know how to treat your...
  4. I didn't even think to question the rice cakes! Even when you think something is safe it may not be.
  5. Oh no..I missed it! You wouldn't mind having another Birthday today would you? HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!
  6. LOL..yes! The fingers to mouth is a big problem I've noticed. Geesh..it seems like I need to change everything I do!
  7. I think gloves are going to be a good idea! Thanks for your input. I'm trying to be like a sponge and absorb all the info I can.
  8. These are all names for MSG in the link. Is MSG the same as soy? For years I'd get "hurricane gut" after eating at restaurants. Sometimes I'd get a migraine too. It was especially bad if I ordered ribs, which apparently they use a lot of MSG in? So, I've known for a while that I react to MSG. I never connected MSG with soy! So..what CAN we eat as...
  9. I was diagnosed with Celiac Sprue after a scope with biopsy a month ago. I immediately stopped eating gluten. Almost immidiately the stinging pain in my belly and reflux after eating stopped. Two weeks into the new diet I started getting a dizzy feeling. It seemed each day it got worse. Sometimes I got the stinging pain again too. I started keeping...
  10. I can't take codeine, Percocet, Ultram, or demerol. I get hives all over and super hyper. I can take Vicodin, but I don't like to. It makes me a little hyper..enough so that I can't sleep, and it supresses my breathing somewhat.
  11. I'm facing cc issues too! My hubby made himself a couple of burgers on the grill. I came into the kitchen a few minutes later and found crumbs/sesame seeds on the stove top and counter. I told him that he contaminated the kitchen and he came storming in and brushed the crumbs onto the floor. I was barefoot..just standing there and told him now he's just...
  12. I guess I should keep more detailed records? I have a small notebook that I write whatever I eat in. I hadn't thought to list the time. Mostly I realize I hadn't eaten any lunch or supper and eat because it's time to, not because I'm hungry. I've been having balance issues and sometimes a mild pain in my left ear. I even had the allergy Dr. look at it...
  13. Thanks for the additional info! I'm keeping a food diary, which I only started a week or so ago. I make a note of any symptoms I have too. I guess with some things there's a delayed reaction so figuring things out might take some detective work? At least with a log of what I've eaten I can do a better job of finding anything suspicious? Crohn's...
  14. I thought I would also mention...get a new toothbrush. I hope you feel better soon!
  15. I have 3 hornby's in the fridge from last January. Sooo..I should toss it out?
  16. We went to Red Robin for the first time last night. I asked for the gluten free menu and ordered a bacon cheese burger plain-no bun and a wedge of lettuce with dressing, and mandarin oranges. I told the waitress I needed gluten free and asked if the kitchen was aware of cc. She assured me that I was in good hands and that my food would come in a special...
  17. Thanks so much! The advice thread is one I somehow missed? I've been gluten-free for about 4 weeks and still get pain after eating. My biopsy report mentioned Crohn's disease as a possible cause for the villi damage/ulcer in the intestine too. The specialist never mentioned Crohn's to me, so I don't know if that was ruled out somehow? I was expecting...
  18. So sorry to hear of your loss..and that you had to miss the funeral. When you're feeling that bad, the best place for you is at home and in bed. I hope you will forgive your Dad's behavior? When there's been a death in the family it affects everybody differently. Hopefully, it was just stress making him act so unkind? (((hugs)))
  19. Can you have the Pharmacist look it up? He/she should be able to tell you if it's safe.
  20. Thanks so much for throwing me a life preserver! I've reading..reading..reading. I don't know how long it takes for villi to grow back? Is there some food or nutrient that helps the process? I've been mostly sticking to the outer parameter of the grocery store. Haven't tried any breads yet, and it's been way too hot to play around with baking...

    ARCHIVED Diagnosed...now What?

So...my primary care Dr. had me pegged as a neurotic hypochondriac until my CT scan came back with enlarged lymph nodes. He said "maybe you should find a GI specialist?" I found one and she ran the tests neccessary to diagnose Celiac Sprue. When I went in for my follow up visit to get the Dx, she said "don't eat gluten" and she ordered a Dexa scan and...
  22. It's hard to tell you about suppliments without knowing your blood test results. If everything was "normal" it suggests you don't need anything more than a good multi vitamin, fish oil, and D3, along with a healthy gluten-free diet. I just got a book I recommend The First Year: Celiac Disease and Living Gluten Free: An Essential Guide for the Newly Diagnosed...
  23. It's hard at first. You may not digest dairy right now if you have villi damage, but can add it back in later. Living on unemployment makes the diet more of a challenge, but not impossible. Don't spend your money on all sorts of gluten replacements. Stick with the fruits and veggies, rice, potatoes, and non processed meats. A small amount of meat mixed...
  24. One thing I would recommend to you is..get a piece of paper and write down every symptom you're having. It will prevent you from forgetting to mention something and may be helpful in your diagnosis. Best of luck to you!
  25. I know seeing blood is scary(been there), but it can be caused by a number of things. No need to panic. Maybe it will bump you up on the waiting list for your tests? Be sure to stay hydrated, and if you don't feel like eating, don't. Maybe something like applesauce would sit in your system ok though?
