ARCHIVED Non-glutenfree Medicine
Kasey'sMom replied to domineske's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I had to get an antibiotic filled for my dd last week. Unfortuately the Phar. didn't know if it contained gluten or not. While they were filling the prescription I ran home and double checked. She did mention that a lady with breast cancer was not able to take a medicine that she had filled for her because it contained gluten. Here's a couple... -

I would be frustrated as well!! The other day we we're working on a project with my father in-law. He came back from lunch and I asked him if he would use a wipe on his hands, we didn't have any water. We were all touching the same supplies and he responded by saying, "I don't know that what I ate even had gluten in it." I tried to explain but I think it...

ARCHIVED Question About Freezing Dough
Kasey'sMom replied to JacobsMom's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Hi, I have never frozen the Kinnikinnick cupcakes before. However, I do freeze the Gluten Free Pantry cake/cupcakes all the time. I've done them both ways: frosted and unfrosted. When I know we're going to a party I'll let them defrost a few hours or the night before in the refrig. I try to flash freeze cupcakes, cookies and indv. slices of cake on a cookie... -
You might want to talk with your Dr. about your prenatal vitamin that has a stool softener. I took Prenate GT but that's been a couple of years ago and I'm not sure if it's gluten-free. The vitamin also had a wonderful coating on the pill to help minimize tummy upset. I think there are a couple other vitamins on the market by Prenate now. I didn't have any...

Kasey'sMom replied to Jnkmnky's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I couple months ago I was at my local grocery store and I started talking to a woman in line. She was the leader of our local co-op. I got involved several months ago and it has saved my a lot of money on speciality items. Sometimes the co-op price might be a few cents less than the suppermarket but often times items are several dollars less. I try to buy... -
Brenda, Looks like gummy vites have a product called "L'il Critters Calcium Taffy Chews." I just did a search and found it on drugstore.com. The information doesn't say gluten free so you might want to check. Also I noticed that it contains milk and soy. Yummi Bears are what I give my dd and she really likes them as well. They have a veg. calcium...

ARCHIVED Depression...is It Normal?does It Get Better?
Kasey'sMom replied to tsgillen's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I think this is whats happened to me. Our house went gluten-free about 5 months ago when we found my dd was gluten intolerant. I stopped eating all the obvious gluten items. I was eating out once or twice a week and I was taking a supplement with wheat grass. I started getting really sick again so I went in for the Celiac panel. My anti-gliadin anti... -
ARCHIVED I Need An Iron Supplement That Is Gentle
Kasey'sMom replied to frenchiemama's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
My dd has low iron levels and her Dr. suggested that we give her chlorophyl liquid. He said is doesn't taste very good but it can be mixed with other things. I also found a company that has mint flavored chlorophyl that's gluten-free. You might want to do a search on the composition and benefits of chlorophyl. The products that I've been looking at are derived... -

ARCHIVED Bacon?
Kasey'sMom replied to mdono's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Here's a website that has an explaination of nitrate/nitrites. Open Original Shared Link I usually take Applegate Farms, Organic Turkey Bacon and cut in half & then cut it lengthwise. This makes strips that look more like regular bacon and are easier to get crisp! -
I've been trying to find a liquid gluten-free vitmain but I haven't had any luck yet. I just bought some Gummi Vites last week and they taste so yummy!! I got mine at Wal-mart but I've also seen them at Walgreens and CVS. My dd takes Yummi Bears for Hero Nutritionals and they are really good too. I have to get them at the health food store. She...

Hi I know you must be overwhelmed right now. I'm not sure if there is a link, but allergies are considered an auto-immune disorder. Several people in my family had celiac disease and most of us have allergies as well. Allergies often run in families. My father has had nasal polyps several times and has had them removed. He also has allergic rhinitis...

My dd ia 3 and we're not sure what route we're going take as well. I have met several people in our area that home school. I actually met them through our local co-op. A lot of the people eat like my family. We were invited to a toddler playgroup and all the children except one has food issues. The parents met at the library once a month for support and...

Kasey'sMom replied to Kasey'sMom's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Thanks everyone. I may put the grain grinder on my wish list! I did purchase a grinder for my spice. I'll use that coffe ginder until I can get the grain mill. My friend has an old vita mix and she was telling me about soaking grains. I think the name she mentioned was Sue Gregor? -
ARCHIVED Dairy/soy Free Cheese?
Kasey'sMom replied to Jamie-44's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I'll try to make the recipe for lunch and write it down this time! I've found one of the small health food stores about 1/2 hour away carries it. Last time I bought two cartons to make sure I have it on hand. The DariFree works great for recipes that call for powdered milk. I often take out small portions of the powder and put it in glass jars for the grandparents... -

ARCHIVED Food Club Brand
Kasey'sMom replied to Kasey'sMom's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Thanks Katie, That's what I was thinking. I have two "extend" family members with celiac disease that say it's OK and they gave my dd some tonight and then she started flipping out! They also use gluten make-up and lick stamps and envelopes!! Do you get sick from touching something like an envelope with gluten even if you wash you hands immediately... -

Hi, I was just wondering if anyone knows if Food Club Brand (Food City) Corn Flakes are gluten-free? The ingredients like malt and I wasn't sure if it came from corn or barley? Thanks!! -
I get the Alvita brand at my health food store. I also order the tea form an online vitamin company. I've also used LongLife tea but their ginger variety is a blend of different herbs. Your best bet would be to use the ginger by itself or a tea like Alvita Ginger Root. That way your not drinking other herbs that my be questionable during pregnancy. I...

Has anyone tried the Organic Blue Sky Soda? They make the organic variety with organic cane sugar. I've only tried a couple of their flavors. The "Natural" Blue Sky sodas are made with corn syrup. My mother-in law always tells me how much better coke was in a glass bottle. Myabe it was the glass & the cane sugar! -
ARCHIVED Grinding Grains
Kasey'sMom replied to Kasey'sMom's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Thanks for the information. I went to a store one day and they had grains in the bins as well. I felt that I had been contaminated just by walking by them. There was even flour on the floor! Since that time I ran into a woman at Kroger who runs a co-op in our area. I've been buying all my grains from the co-op in larger quanities. Mostly I've been buying...
