  1. I'm also looking for a good "Free" cake recipe. I've used "The Gluten-Free Pantry/Old Fashioned Cake and Cookie Mix," with their egg free substitution. While the cake tastes good, I haven't been able to replecate the light and fluffy texture without using eggs. You take one bag and add: 2-3 heaping Tbsp. applesauce 1/4 - 1/3 cup oil 1/2 cup...
  2. I know you must have mixed emotions with the test results. I'm glad Ella is doing well on the gluten-free diet. My daughter had inconclusive blood results. After going completely gluten-free, our immediate family could tell a huge difference in my dd as well. At that point we started getting more support and people would actually pick up gluten-free...
  3. My dd starts pre-school for the first time this fall and I have a pit in my stomach!! We're going to meet with her teacher and go over everything but I'm still worried. My dd is just starting to get better also. I wish I could be at pres-school washing hands and countertops....not realistic, I know. My dd still sucks her thumb and she used to carry...
  4. It's funny....even at age 3 my daughter wants to know what's in the food that she's eating. Here recently she looked at the muffins we made, and said, "what kind of muffin?" I responded by saying, "a blueberry muffin." She quickly jumped in and said, "it's a gorganic (organic), gluten free muffin." Susan, I think that's being a wonderful mom! It's...
  5. Hi, We were gluten-free first and then we found dd has an egg allergy. We also had the ELISA food scan and found that she's intolerant to dairy, almonds, soy and a list of others. It has been about a month since we've taken out the soy and I found it hidden in her Omega supplement this week. I know it's difficult when it seems like there's nothing they...
  6. Maya, When we first starting replacing foods it was tough. Some days seemed to last forever. My dd would cry for her favoriate foods and she was going through so many changes, both physically & emotionally. Finding foods to replace her old foods helped so much. My dd is 3 and we started about 6 months ago. Now she can make the connection between...
  7. My daughter tested positive for the anti-gliadin anti-bodies. Her Dr. supported our descision to put her on a gluten-free diet. She also is intolerant to wheat. Her allergist and pediatric Dr. both feel that the positive gluten anti-bodies are a sign that her immune system sees gluten as an invader. We have a couple of other distant family memebers that have...
  8. Hi Rachel, I use Bare Minerals and California Baby. Bare Minerals are wonderful and free of many irritating chemicals. I have supper sensitive skin and have done great with the prodcuts. I order my make-up online. I found a food co-op where I can order the California Baby at a discount price. You might check to see if there's one in your area. I've...
  9. Sharon, We had a similar expierence to Nisla and several others. Dd was born early and tiny. I made her baby food and nursed. After we added whole milk she really started putting on weight! As she got a little older, she started showing other celiac disease symptoms. She stopped gaining weight and at one point lost a pound or two. The Dr.'s never mentioned...
  10. Sharon, I really feel for you right now. I know how frustrating it is to have Dr.'s that will blow you off. My dd had inconclusive blood results but has responded well to the diet. The specialists we've seen haven't been that supportive but her ped. has been. Having a doctor that believes in you and your situation makes things a little easier. I just wanted...
  11. Sorry I should have re-read your post. Do a google on Roanoke Natural Foods. This is a co-op store that is open to the public and I've been there several times. I think the store has been open for many years and it is not as big as a regular suppermarket. However, I've found that they do have more gluten-free and organic veggie options than other stores...
  12. They have an Outback in Roanoke that you might check out. We've only eating there once.
  13. Beverly, I haven't seen the Laura Scudder natural peanut butter but my family likes the organic nut butters from Maranatha. The peanut butter is made with Valencia peanuts. The nut butters don't contain any added ingredients. We also love the almond butter. I think the peanuts are roasted for the peanut butter and the almonds are raw. So yummy...
  14. Wow, this is alarming. Do you happen to know if this is both organic and conventionally grown apples? Thanks!
  15. Hi, I give my daughter Yummi Bears, Multivitamin & Mineral from Hero Nutritional Products. I also give her the Yummi Bear, Veg. Calcium with Vitamin D. They say they're gluten free on the bottle and most health food stores carry them.
  16. Sure, I think I will give it a try next month. I'm looking for some bread that would hold up in a lunch box. The co-op I purchase from is starting to carry the Kinnikinnick products and I' so excited. Thanks for the information! P.S. I'm hoping at some point I can re-introduce dairy and eggs and what fun we'll have.
  17. Hi, I was looking forward to trying the Kinnikinnick bread but my daughter has egg allergies and it seems that most of their breads have eggs in them. I noticed that the Robin's Honey Brown Bread was the only one that didn't. I was wondering if you could help describe the bread. I've tried making some bread without egg and the only gluten-free bread we've...
  18. These are great ideas. I think you're doing a great job at approaching the diet in a positive way. I've really worried about not putting a negative spin on things. I have stopped freaking out if we have a food accident and this has helped us both. The water bottles are a great idea. We're hoping to meet with the director soon so we can work out the details...
  19. Hi, I was just wondering if anyone with multiple food allergies (ie. soy and dairy) has had any problems with the cereal? Thanks
  20. I had been using Frontier Herbs & Spices. I contacted them about their products and this is the response..... Hello, Thank you for your interest in Frontier. Frontier does not add gluten to their products, however it can occur naturally. Spices are naturally gluten free and herbs are not known to contain gluten. We do not test for nor do we...
  21. Jen, I got the California Baby Body Wash/Shampoo for my daughter but now our whole family is using it. I just ordered the lotion and I can't wait to try it. I love the fact that they list that it's gluten-free on the bottle. My child also has soy issues and I was glad that it's soy free as well!
  22. Hi, I'm gald to see this post about tea. I started to panic and went to my cupboard to check my Celestial Seasonings Tea. I bought the box of tea a few weeks ago. The box I have is the Fruit Sampler. On the very bottom of the box the Fruit Sampler is says "Gluten Free." I'll be sure to look for the gluten free label next time!! I used Clinque for years...
  23. Thanks Kaiti!!!
  24. Hi, I remembering reading a post about soft soap being gluten-free. I was wondering if all the Soft Soaps are gluten-free. I've been using the Shea Butter/Soft Soap and just wanted to check!!
  25. You're right...when I started looking a little closer, I was shocked. I had now idea that 8 oz. of juice had 23 grams of sugar. My dd had some jucie one day last week and she had a rash on her face. I'm starting to wonder if she isn't sensitive to citric acid.
