Excellent! And lucky you! I am thinking of the Bob Evans near where our house is...really awful customer service with a ton of staff turnover. I would doubt their commitment to gluten-free.

Have you read Tana French? She's Irish and her books, so far, are in the police procedural vein but they are just sooooo Irish. In order they are: IN THE WOODS, THE LIKENESS, FAITHFUL PLACE. They are a loosely linked trilogy. I think my favorite was THE LIKENESS and then IN THE WOODS and FAITHFUL PLACE. The characters and stories really got into my head!...

It is great that they are starting to offer a gluten-free menu but I'd quiz the manager very very carefully about CC issues before eating anything there. Just because they offer a gluten-free menu doesn't mean they "get" what gluten-free really means (not just the ingredients!)

I would say there is no magic time frame that everyone falls under...depends on how high your levels were to begin with, how long you were sick, how your body heals, how strict you are about the diet, accidental glutenings, etc. As six months I was much closer to the 'negative/normal' range but still slightly above it. As my levels were going in the...

				ARCHIVED Tri-Cyclen Birth Control
BabsV replied to Skittles's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I use Ortho Tri-Cyclen -- my pharmacist (in the U.S.) checked and his information said they were listed as gluten-free. Not sure if it is a different manufacturing facility or not or if something has changed since I got the Rx (I can get a year's worth at a time through our insurance!) Is it the actual name-brand (Ortho) or one of the generics? I was on a... -

ARCHIVED Can I Have A Nervous Breakdown Now?
BabsV replied to BabsV's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Thanks. As I've said, I think getting back to the States with better food quality will help my overall health. *fingers crossed* -

ARCHIVED Bill To Subsidize Gluten-Free Bread Passes Hurdle
BabsV posted a topic in Publications & Publicity
One of my friends sent me this link to a Jerusalem Post article. Open Original Shared Link "According to the proposal, the cost of gluten-free bread will be kept at a level that is never higher than that of standard bread. In addition, those who suffer from celiac disease will be reimbursed for up to NIS 500 per month per family for purchasing special... -
*snortle* Aren't they naturally gluten-free? Hehehehe. I'm trying to figure out the 44 lbs of meat restriction...is it for hunters maybe who have an entire animal to bring back?!?! I am not knowing...but I do know I have never taken a car trip with that much meat!

For gluten-free snack info on your flight you'd have to check with the airline -- but I doubt it. I'm currently in Europe and have had no trouble with having food in my carry-on in Germany, Poland, Italy, and Greece. I pack all things in small containers or ziploc bags and don't have any liquids. I haven't even been questioned about it. As for the Canadian...

ARCHIVED Can I Have A Nervous Breakdown Now?
BabsV replied to BabsV's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Haven't seen them for sale in the stores and since my car has now been shipped I don't think I'll be hunting them down. I'll ask one of my Polish friends if I could get them at a butcher shop...beef is really awful here (pork is much better) but I know it is out there. And of course I am using probiotics! Love them as they made my extremely loud 'gut... -

				ARCHIVED Kelloggs?
BabsV replied to Spartans1960's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Until Kelloggs does a cost-benefit analysis that shows how having a gluten-free product will make them money they aren't going to do it is my bet. General Mills is smart and forward thinking...I saw an article in, hmmm, was it the Wall Street Journal (?) in the last few months that laid out why GM is paying attention to the gluten-free market and changing... -

				ARCHIVED Gluten Free Drugstore Makeup?!
BabsV replied to BrandiS's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Have you tried Red Apple Lipstick? I love their lipsticks, glosses and balm. They are gluten-free, paraben free, vegan, etc. They have amazing customer service and when I bought my first couple I cringed at the price (I have never been one to pay a lot for cosmetics since I don't wear them very often) but I've gotta say they are totally worth it. Red... -
I remember reading labels on different Pop Chip bags several months ago and some stated they were made on shared equipment or in a shared facility or something...it wasn't all the flavors at the time. The packaging was very clear about it -- I can't remember what the difference was but there was some sort of difference in the gluten labeling on the chips...

What I've done while traveling is freeze food in individual portion containers and then let it thaw out during the car ride or plane ride. I also take hard boiled eggs and some cheese figuring those will be the first things I will eat on the trip! I always take a good selection of 'snacks' with me that can sustain me for an extended period of time...beef...

ARCHIVED Can I Have A Nervous Breakdown Now?
BabsV replied to BabsV's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'm not expecting a miracle...I just want to know if there are any tests that should have been done but haven't because the doctors here have no clue about anything related to Celiac. I mean, they don't want to check my vitamin levels, look at possible other food intolerances, etc. The only test they wanted to do was repeat blood work to see if my antibody... -

ARCHIVED Can I Have A Nervous Breakdown Now?
BabsV replied to BabsV's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I stick to pure foods as much as possible. I am eating very few gluten-free replacement foods and the only ones I will eat are Schar and some things (pasta) ordered from the States. I won't touch the local gluten-free stuff. Don't drink tap water...only bottled. I think the food quality is just awful in general...can't eat meat because I've been glutened... -

ARCHIVED Can I Have A Nervous Breakdown Now?
BabsV replied to BabsV's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Thanks for the kind words IH. I have always been an extremely impatient person and this diagnosis plus recovery period is teaching me how to have more patience. I'm figuring it is some sort of karmic lesson I needed to learn and this is how it's been decided I learn it! 8-) I've got 2 important countdowns I'm concentrating on...getting out of Poland... -

ARCHIVED Need To Eat Gluten Free But Cant Afford It
BabsV replied to ScarlettsMommy's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
All great advice. Also, if you aren't keen on cooking a crock pot could save your sanity -- I bought mine at Target for $15 (on sale) and it is in use several times a week. Cheaper cuts of meat do really well in a crock pot and if you need recipes go to Open Original Shared Link One of the blogger's daughters has Celiac Disease so all recipes are gluten-free... -

ARCHIVED Can I Have A Nervous Breakdown Now?
BabsV replied to BabsV's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
And I've got to say I'm in a better place today...no more meltdowns (I hope.) A good night's sleep plus finding out that there are two possible jobs for him in DC if Baghdad doesn't work out means I don't have to worry about State trying to send us someplace where I can't receive decent health care. We're going back to our house in NoVA without a doubt! Besides... -

ARCHIVED Can I Have A Nervous Breakdown Now?
BabsV replied to BabsV's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
The pain ranges from dull discomfort to full on intense pain -- it is hard to describe because it is not a shooting pain, more like a throbbing. Sometimes it feels as if it is swollen or inflamed inside but I have no bloating. It isn't nearly as bad now that I've been gluten-free for several months... It is mostly on the left side of my abdomen right under... -

ARCHIVED Can I Have A Nervous Breakdown Now?
BabsV replied to BabsV's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Wheat is everywhere here in Poland -- what boggles my mind is all the meat and meat products that contain gluten?!?! Bacon, sausage, lunch meat, hot dogs, etc. -- not that I ever ate much of that sort of stuff but I do like to make "breakfast for dinner" every once in a while and not being able to eat bacon as a treat just kills me. Even the gluten-free replacement... -
