  1. My 6-month blood work showed a marked decline in antibodies -- close to the 'normal/negative' level but still high or above it. The doctor who reviewed the results said that I was obviously responding to the diet but it can take a year or more to get down to the proper levels. He said they don't worry about 'refractory sprue' until it has been at least 2...
  2. Do you need the actual diagnosis for any reason? Work or school or health insurance/care? Many people who go gluten-free and have their health improve are happy to remain 'officially' undiagnosed. On the flip side, do you need that piece of paper from a physician stating that you have Celiac? Or non-Celiac Gluten Intolerance? There are those who have negative...
  3. My doctor recommended checking at 6-months gluten-free and then again at 1 year gluten-free. My 6 month tests showed a BIG drop in antibody levels. I'm hoping the 12 month tests will show even more improvement.
  4. Along with eating natural foods and avoiding all the gluten-free replacement foods...get a crock pot. They aren't very expensive and they save you tons of time. Also, cheaper cuts of meat cook up better in a crock pot. Many of us on the forums are big fans of this site for crock pot recipes: Open Original Shared Link The blogger's daughter has Celiac so all...
  5. It made no difference for me...still had anxiety through the roof when I was accidentally glutened a couple of times at the beginning. I think the one thing that the meds did do for me was I was a little better about recognizing I was having an anxiety issue and could sort of "talk myself down" in a way. I could recognize what was going on and try not to...
  6. I am not a doctor so don't take this as medical advice! SSRIs can help with anxiety issues (I know more than one person who takes Lexapro for GAD) but if your anxiety stems from gluten intolerance/Celiac, being gluten free can for some people decrease the anxiety. I know my anxiety skyrockets when I am glutened but it passes within a couple of days. ...
  7. You need to contact the manufacturer with the packaging handy so you an read them any pertinent information. I use Red Apple Lipstick glosses, balm and lipsticks. They are gluten free, paraben free, plus free of other stuff (it is all on their website.) The colors are gorgeous, last a long time and my lips have never looked better. Also, their customer...
  8. BRM products do not agree with me...not sure why. I tried the cornbread, brownies and can't remember the third thing but after each I was miserable. It was weeks or months apart when I tried them. Doesn't BRM process gluten-free oats in their facility? I wonder if that is what made me so unhappy. I've had better luck with Pamela's products though I try to...
  9. I posted Dr. Fasano's press release on the Domino's facebook page. Wonder how long before they delete it!
  10. Wow, this is all great info. My in-laws live only about an hour away from Pigeon Forge and we usually take our daughter to Dollywood. Nice to know it shouldn't be a problem if we do it again this year!
  11. Not related to housekeeping but have you checked out the Book Depository? Last time I checked they had free shipping to Canada (plus lots of other places), and I've been able to find several of my favorite British authors there cheaper/sooner than from any place in the US. You have options for payment currency but I don't think Canadian dollar is one of them...

Oh no, hope you feel better soon!
  13. Wow, nice that they offer the band option. I've seen other parks that say you can't bring food in, full stop. I doubt anyone will be paying attention to the band other than those who have been trained to recognize it. And if you want the safety net of bringing in your own food it seems like a small price to pay.
  14. I second Red Apple Lipstick -- love the colors and quality. They ship overseas but since it is getting to be summer not sure the products would arrive in anything other than a melted mess. 8-(
  15. So, now Chuck E. Cheese's is testing a gluten-free pizza and cupcake. Open Original Shared Link It may be a frozen pizza but at least they seem to get the CC issue better than that other pizza chain that's been in the news this week for their not-safe-for-Celiacs gluten-free pizza choice! I bet a lot of parents will like this info: "The bake-in...
  16. Yikes! I'm glad he's ok. And so happy that the party went well.
  17. Thanks for the input. I was so amazed to see the product on my neighborhood natural food store here in Poland! In less than two months I'll be back in the States and will probably be overwhelmed with all the gluten-free options.
  18. So, at my local natural food shop this morning I found 2 bags of Wai Lana Chips (sea salt and vinegar flavor.) Having never seen this creature before and figuring I may never see it again knowing how this shop stocks their products I had to buy one...even though I am trying to stay away from this kind of snack food stuff and sticking to as natural and unprocessed...
  19. Aw, sweetie, sorry you're feeling so down. You've got the trifecta of events happening and one at a time would be hard enough to deal with. The tests aren't fun (and I am also so sick of doctors and tests at this point!) but get them done so you've got all the information you need. Make sure to get copies of all your results -- I've built my own file...

Have you finished this? Wondering what you think/thought about it. I loved the time he was in Mexico with Rivera, Kahlo, etc. but overall the entire book didn't draw me in like her novels usually do. Think my favs have to remain The Poisonwood Bible and Prodigal Summer. Oh, also LOVED Animal, Vegetable, Miracle: A Year of Food Life.

I just finished Let's Pretend This Never Happened (on audiobook -- totally addicted to them for when I walk the dog...we have a Border Terrier and he needs serious exercise as in 45-60 minute daily walks or he turns into the equivalent of a very bored and mischeivious 3-year old child...sorry, rambling...) IT WAS HYSTERICAL!!! There was one chapter...
  22. Wow. Sounds like a thorough visit. Hope the treatment helps. Please keep us posted as to results.
  23. There's this blog also Open Original Shared Link I found it when it looked like we were going to visit Berlin but unfortunately the trip had to be cancelled.
  24. Aw hon, you are going to be ok. Really. It takes time...and 2 weeks gluten-free is not long enough to see results for a lot of us. Besides, you could be in the midst of gluten withdrawal which is no picnic. That does pass. If I get glutened I have overwhelming anxiety plus some depression. It is as if I am in a bottomless pit with no hope of getting out...
