  1. The dietician I saw just told us that Stonyfield Farms has more probiotics in it than any other brand of yogurt, and is gluten-free (at least the plain -- that's all I use, because I add my own fruit). Hope it helps . . . . Lynne
  2. Thanks for posting that, Richard. I could imagine that seeing the avatar would be startling, but Grace is so beautiful, and it's a nice addition to the forum. . . . . Lynne

    ARCHIVED A Useful Specialist?!

Don't know from where you are, but in the US, allergists usually specialize in Allergy & Immunology. They often forget the Immunology part. Make sure yours doesn't. Celiac is an autoimmune disease. They need to find out not only what foods to which you "react" (Allergy), but also the foods to which you are "intolerant" (immunology). You may not ...
  4. This started before I went gluten-free, but I need help, as well. I take Zelnorm, 6 mg (vs 3) 2 times a day, 2 Colace at night, put flax seed on everything I eat, try to eat raw veggies, eat TONS of prunes, raisins, drink lots of water, and yet . . . . .nothing. We're talking up to 10-12 days. Very uncomfortable. Any recommendations?
  5. No problem, guys, happy to share!!! I am surprised that, while Louisville is not considered to be a "hallmark" of medical discoveries (except hand surgery), I have been able to find two neurologists, two gastroenterologists, a rheumatologist and a dietician, all very knowledgeable in Celiac disease. Now, if they could only find a way to restore the parts...
  6. I liked that song a LOT when it was popular!
  7. Thanks for your prayers, your hugs, and your compliments -- I sometimes have a hard time believing I deserve them, though. I think I'm just on the same journey we all are, and just have a few bumps in the road here and there. I have to tell you, though, I have a GREAT support system. My husband is amazing -- I couldn't have asked for any better. My family...
  8. Sometimes, with doctors, I think it boils down to this: Medicine is a Science and an Art. Unfortunately, sometimes we find "scientists" when what we NEED are "artists". Keep looking for your artists . . . . ((hugs)) Lynne
  9. Holy Mackerel -- I cannot believe the nerve!! I think you were VERY gracious by saying "Oh thank you. . . ". I think that might have been one of those "bite my tongue" moments for me . . . . .where I usually don't end up biting my tongue enough.
  10. I believe that Shelley Case's book gives a breakdown between US and European food regulations, particularly with regard to wording .. . .
  11. I clicked on the last page, yep, hate to admit it, to see what all the scuttlebut was Now, I'm going to have to go back and read 112 posts . . . I can't stand it when I find a long thread interesting. The only thing is, it's kind of like, "Which celebrities have REALLY BAD diarrhea???????" Just kidding -- only a joke. Don't send nasty e-mails or personal...
  12. Haven't tried those -- I use Genisoy Milk & Egg protein, but I'm not lactose intolerant. Will have to check Jay Robb out, though.
  13. No problem. Don't know about the calcification, but the white spots are indicative of MS -- which, evidently, often coincides with Celiac, from what I've read. (Don't want to scare you though -- I DON'T know about the calcification). I don't have celiac. I have Gluten Ataxia. I have anti-perkinje antibodies, as well, and when they cross-react with the...
  14. The doctors at Hopkins and Mayo told me it was in my head, too. Unfortunately, it was, and because I wasn't gluten-free because of them, a chunk of my cerebellum was destroyed. Listen to your body, not some callous, ego-driven idiots!
  15. That's IT!!!!! Cheers to ChelsE!! I'm raising my glass to you as we speak!!!!! . . . Lynne
  16. YES! I WANT IT ALL!! AND I WANT IT FREE, FREE DO YOU HEAR ME??????
  17. HOORAY! Vincent, I loved your comment . . . . but really, can we not go there EVER again!
  18. Use a mask!!!! You can get 3M brand masks at the hardware store that filter out down to microparticles, I think. There was a thread earlier about a woman's husband who is a manager at Chick-fil-A, and when he is in the back helping, flour is flying around everywhere -- then he gets VERY sick. Good luck, and please take care of yourself . . . Lynne
  19. I should knock on wood, but I have not had a bad experience yet with wait staff when trying to order gluten-free. In fact, our waiter the other night said, "Ma'am (damn it made me feel old -- anyway), if you don't mind me asking, what type of diet are you on that you can't have these things?" I told him that I was gluten intolerant, it destroys my cerebellum...
  20. Once again, You've Done It!! You are fantastic at finding articles that are SOOOOOO good Thank you so much . . . .. Lynne
  21. I don't have celiac, just GI, so I'm don't have any knowledge of it personally, nor have I read anything that mentions that. My question would be, how long does the stiffness in your knee last before it goes away? Do you have it in any other joints in your body? Do you have any other autoimmune diseases? That's about my two cents' worth Sorry I couldn...
  22. ChelsE -- I think the greeting card thing is a good idea! I had a friend, when her divorce was final, they threw her a big party -- they got a wedding cake, then the bride and groom topper, cut the head off the groom, and laid it at the bride's feet!!!!! I think there's a place in the world for things like that -- and cards to go with them!!!!! Lynne
  23. Rusla -- you are BAD!!! Funny, but BAD!!!!! Lynne
  24. It does sound like a shoebox greeting! So . . . .Congratulations on your new autoimmune diagnosis! I'm sure you'll have many happy(?) years with it! . . .Lynne
  25. Hey -- I'm with you. We always make a big production of birthdays at my family. Since I've been gluten-free, I've had to bake my own brownies once (no one would go downstairs to preheat or put the brownies in the oven until I threw a temper tantrum -- I'm in a wheelchair), and I've had the custard our of pies one time. (this is 2 incidents in about 7 birthdays...
