  1. emmirose2008------- I know what you are going through.... your case sounds a lot like mine. I gain tons of weight with gluten and I had hypothyroidism as well and just going gluten-free didn't cut the weight for me. I am on the Specific Carbohydrate diet and I feel fantastic. I have lost a lot of weight and my stomach is completely flat again, which...
  2. jenvan-- on SCD I noticed dramatic differences in how I felt at the end of 2-3 weeks, and after buying and making my own yogurt, I feel 80000x better. heather22- every morning I have eggs with either mushrooms, spinach, onions... and yogurt. gfinnebraska-- I am craving dessert of any kind, so what out of the book have you found to be the best tasting...
  3. My doctor told me I didn't have celiac disease either because my biopsy came back negative. I KNOW I am gluten intolerant, though, which may be what you are. If I would have listened to my doctor, I would be eating as much "whole grain wheat" as possible because he diagnosed me with IBS. No offense to him, but I know my body and I know he is WRONG!!!!...
  4. you can find more about the SCD on www.breakingtheviciouscycle.com
  5. Are we allowed to use Equal? I thought it had maltodextrin (corn) in it, so it was bad? I was under the impression that the only real sweetener we could have was honey? I could definately be wrong on this.........
  6. This diet was designed for people to gain weight. It would be really, really easy for me to put pounds on, so I have to watch what I eat to continue to lose weight. The diet recommends using lot of olive oil, eating many nut products, butter, cheese, meats... and the list goes on. I have only lost weight because I watch what I eat.
  7. What about 3-musketeers bar?
  8. gfinnebraska-- Creighton is a great school. I wish him the best. I am currently studying for my Optometry Admissions Test, which I am incredibly excited/scared about. I mean, I have wanted to be an Optometrist since the 5th grade..... Anyway, so I have a question. I think in BTVC it says you should be on the diet 6months to a year? I don't know how...
  9. Heather22-- I am going to be entering my junior year at the University of Missouri-St. Louis (UMSL), where I play collegiate basketball. I understand your energy concern. I found out about my gluten intolerance thing near the end of the season last year. We had to continue to go through post season workouts, and I can't tell you how crappy I felt. ...
  10. I am on this diet and absolutely love it because I finally feel 100% after going gluten-free. I didn't buy the yogurt maker right away, and I didn't see as much improvement as I had hoped, but since buying one and making my own yogurt, I have had so much improvement and I feel fantastic, but since you cannot tolerate dairy, I guess you will not be getting...

    ARCHIVED Grrrr....

When I was first starting to figure out that gluten was the problem (self diagnosis was correct by the way) my mother just couldn't understand the concept of how sensitive to gluten I was. She had made chicken pot pie (which is basically a gluten bomb waiting to occur) and she told me to just "scrape out the vegetables and chicken" (from the flour crust...
  12. Are Honeybaked hams gluten-free. I don't know what kind of a "honey" coating they put on them, so I am not sure.
  13. Thank you so much for posting this. This will come in handy!!!!!
  14. It is ironic that we are both on the same diet, but both have very differnt goals... Let me explain. I am a gainer with gluten, so I went on this diet to try to "clean" out my system and get rid of the excess bloatedness and weight. So far, so good. I just recently have felt back to normal, but it would be so easy for me to gain weight with this diet....
  15. I feel absolutely amazing from this diet. I have finally lost those stubborn pounds I put on over the months from my gluten attacks, but I have tons of energy and I am very happy. I will say I crave three things more than anything... I could probably eat my body weight in raisins, natural peanut butter, and CHEESE!! Those three things definately do not...
  16. On SCD, do you guys feel like you are eating the same foods over and over everyday. I also feel like it takes me so long to prepare meals and I refuse to eat anywhere except when I make it in my own kitchen. It is hard to have variation everyday because you have to feel out if your body is ready to try the new food you introduced.
  17. I am the exact same way. I really think I could eat, and eat, and eat. I really do have a pit for a stomach. I believe that since my mind knows it can't have gluten anymore, then it will focus and "crave" all of the other things it CAN have. I could eat fruit until the cows come home, but I will never get that 'satisfied' feeling like okay that is enough...
  18. It is so tempting to cheat on the diet each and everyday, especially since I learned what candy is gluten free because the desserts for SCD are not helping me out. I mean, I have made a couple of things and they have tasted pretty bad. I mean no one else would put up with these horrible desserts if they weren't on the SCD.
  19. It is so easy to go overboard with the berries! Especially on this diet more than any other, I tend to overindulge myself sometimes because there is usually only a couple of things at home that are "legal", so it is easy to go crazy!!!
  20. I haven't had a period in well over a year and my doctor told me I was going to have to go on the pill. I am guessing most brands are gluten free?
  21. I finally have had breakthrough..... this past week I was able to add a couple of things to my diet. Strawberries, cantalupe, and pineapple finally went without a fight! I am so excited to eat these again, I just had to share it.
  22. Thank you for posting their letter. My dad grilled me a chicken breast and told me to try it to see if it makes me sick or not. I am very reluctant to try it (it is still in the refrigerator) because it takes me so long to recover from a "glutenation" if you will. I gain a massive amount of weight everytime I ingest gluten, so I just don't feel like dealing...
  23. I was finally diagnosed with non-celiac gluten intolerance. My biopsy was negative, but my bloodwork was positive and everything has been positive with my dietary change. I went from having an athletic, lean body, to being absolutely bloated all of the time, fatigue, extremely gassy.... the list goes on. I basically knew after gaining 12 lbs overnight...
  24. I am dying to make myself some sort of dessert. I really want to try to make ice cream because I am hoping my body can handle its smooth consistency better than it could something made from nut flour. Have you tried making ice cream?
  25. Dangerous Grains is an absolutely amazing book, so good choice Bette!!! It is very well written and I have not found any discrepencies or any comments that I have found to be inaccurate!! It is a must have.
