VydorScope replied to lovegrov's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Well which part? McDondals now admits the freis have always had gluten in them, per thier offical statement to the Wall Street Journel. They just feel the level of gluten is low enough to be insignifigant. Wehter or not they are "safe" I guess depends on your opinion of safe. Many ppl here have had advrese reactions to thier fries, and for them its easy... -

celiac3270... based on the best of information that McDondals has made advailbie, the fires have always had a low level of gluten in them. Up till now McDondals decided to not disclose that, and now they have decided to disclose it. In short nothing has changed expect their level of disclosure. Its a mix. Some of the stuff, like the Panda Puffs are cheaper then Kroger, other stuff is more pricey. Its the only place around here htat carries some of the more special stuff. Like my wife loves the amartha cereal and thats the only place to get it. Some times my son loves the gluten-free Chicken Nuggest they carry, and thats the only place to get them... -

IBS is one of the more popular things that celiac disease is mistaken for. YES, you should all get tested. My reading says that all direct blood relatives of your daughter have a 30% chance of devolping celiac disease. celiac disease is gentic, so someone in your family passed it down to her, and probably others. Now just becuase you have the gene does... -

ARCHIVED Mcdonald's French Fries Not Safe?
VydorScope replied to pixiegirl's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Thank you David for doing this foot work. Now, that sounds more like an honest anwer then what I have heard out of them through this. I read it as "Yes there is defintly some gluten in the fries, but it is a very small amount" Thats much more reasonable the thier magical deep fryer answer. Since thier fries DO bother my son, I still... -

VydorScope replied to lemonade's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Xylitol, also called wood sugar or birch sugar, is a five-carbon sugar alcohol that is used as a sugar substitute. It can be extracted from birch, raspberries, plums, and corn, which is primarily imported from China and is the most popular source due to its potential renewability, unlike birch trees. ARCHIVED Splenda
VydorScope replied to lemonade's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
If Stevia ever comes down in price, I would perfer that over Splenda (well assuming it tastes good, not tried it yet) but at OVER three times the cost of Splenda, and phemonily more expensive then raw sugar I am not willing to consider it yet. Xiotol (how ever its spelled) is not carried in any of my local stores, so dunno how tis priced. -

Splenda is safe, some ppl how ever fear all things man-made when it comes to food and will come up with all kinds of things to scare you. These are normaly the same ppl that will tell you the highly proccess white junk is natural, some even will say good for you. heh. Stevia, and Xiotol are alternatives that are usaly cosindered better, same with honey...
