  1. How about seeing if there's an Audubon group anywhere near you? They do bird watching activities all the time. Also, you could check the AHS --- American Hemerocallis Society (Daylilys! YAY!) & see if there are any groups near you.
  2. Are you eating anything which contains soy? Soy can cause big bloat problems.
  3. You should be fine with rice. The brown rice might or might not be too much for you right now as it's more difficult to digest. But rice is okay. You can even try the brown & see what happens. Just don't do any processed foods for a good long while. Some say 3 months, I would say 4 months to be safer. During that time read on here & you will learn...
  4. Whole foods mean nothing processed like the noodles you had. Fresh meats, fresh or frozen fruits & veggies but that means the kind that isn't already cooked & has no sauces, spices etc.... IE: a bag of brocolli, a bag of blueberries or just get the real thing fresh & enjoy! Nuts, organic nut butters such as peanut, cashew, sunflower seed butter...
  5. You could learn to brew your own gluten free beer like IrishHeart's hubby does. Way better than the gluten-free beer you buy. Irish will even provide the recipe! It's actually on this board somewhere as I remember when she posted it. I'm sure she will come along & provide the link. But you know what? Gluten beer is not to die for. Pun intended. There...
  6. Well, as to "most ppl with celiac gain weight after going gluten-free" ---- hmmmmm...... --- depends on where you read that or heard it & in what context they are speaking. Perspective patti-ann, perspective. The "general thought" is that celiacs are emaciated b/c of the celiac malabsorbtion. So, it follows that when they heal they will be absorbing...
  7. Awwww, now you guys got me all weepy --- the good kind of weepy.
  8. Oh gosh tetley, it's hard to say if you're done or not. Everyone is an individual --- even with dh. But I will say that the low iodine (thyca.org) works pretty quick for all of us. Again, individuals, but for me low iodine (li) I start to not itch in about 3-4 days & by the time 7 days has come I'm healing up. My husband seems to take about 10 days for...
  9. Gluten-Free, you should read bartful's post entitled Wowie Zowie! --- it really is inspiring! It lets us know that we CAN & most likely WILL get foods back. ((((HUGS)))))
  10. What a marvelously empowering feeling bartful!!!!!!!! I'm jumping up & down with joy for you. Doing a happy jig. It DOES give the rest of us hope & inspiration.
  11. Well, tetlyt, either you really did get into some poison ivy, oak or whatnot OR you got glutened & didn't know it. Actually, since I've been here on this board there have been a surprising number of celiac "veterans" such as yourself who have posted here that they suddenly have dh after it having never presented prior. I remember one of the first ones...
  12. The best way to avoid a glutening until you learn the ins & outs is to eat whole foods ONLY. That is recommended anyway to give your gut time to heal. AND it takes a lot of anxiety & stress off you to not worry about every little thing you put in your mouth. And this is a GREAT help to get you started: https://www.celiac.com/forums/topic/91...
  13. I guess that's what you call fate!
  14. Man! Gluten-Free! You just can't catch a break can you? I've heard of lots of allergies but this is the first time I ever heard of a banana allergy. So sorry. Well, if it helps any --- they are sulfurous, meaning gassy. So you're better off w/o them. If you are taking probiotics make sure to check them for preservatives --- they can really get the...
  15. And if you haven't already read it.... here's a link to the Newbie 101: https://www.celiac.com/forums/topic/91878-newbie-info-101/ We are glad you found us & welcome to the board!
  16. Welcome to the board! And this is a great place for you to get started: https://www.celiac.com/forums/topic/91878-newbie-info-101/
  17. Good old Vodka is gluten free. Cheers!
  18. YVW! Hope you get better real quick! OH! Add bananas to your "can have" list.
  19. Double nickles here. 5'1.5". 45.81 kg. I never feel my age. I'm always 95 or 16 or 8. I like 8 best.
  20. Huge (((((HUGS))))) sweetie!
  21. I got some great gluten-free makeup. It's Afterglow cosmetics. I used to itch & get puffy from make up for about the last 10 years but then I found out I was a celiac & got gluten-free make up & no more itch, no more puffies.
  22. Now that I know what it is & what it is related to & am looking back with 20/20 vision; I have to say I've had celiac all my life or at the very least since the teen years. And I'm now 55.
  23. We love the pancakes it makes. As for the biscuits ---- well, they aren't like "biscuits" but more like some kind of bread/muffin type thing but they aren't bad as long as you're not expecting a real biscuit. I adapted a Belgian Waffle recipe using the gluten-free Bisquick & it's pretty darn good but the regular waffles from it ---- leave something to...
  24. Yep. Don't get yourself overwhelmed. First the tests. Then we'll work with you on the gluten-free diet & all the other stuff. For now just breathe... and eat that gluten!
  25. Everyone gave you excellent advice! I will just add a little note here about the stuttering. I have never, ever had a problem with stuttering (& I'm 55)...... until.....the gluten began to affect me so badly & my health was rapidly deteriorating. Then I began to stutter & sometimes the words would just come out as plain jibberish. I got to where...
