  1. I'm sorry to hear that others have suffered, but it is comforting to know that I have company I was kind of hoping that I would no longer like the taste of a good IPA, but no such luck.
  2. I will try to keep my background short... I have been a suffering from seasonal allergies for many years (i'd say 25) - I think they told me that I was allergic to everything (grasses, weeds, trees) except for pine trees, as well as cats, and dust/dust mites. I have been on antihistamines, and nasal inhalers for almost 20 years, and got allergy shots for...
  3. i am generally very good about watching out for gluten, but every now and then i get side-tracked and can't seem to talk and focus on gluten at the same time. last week, i was on vacation with my boyfriend. he had gone up to the bar to get drinks (beer for him, and hard cider for me). when i joined him, he was in a discussion with the bartender trying...
  4. Welcome! I am not sure where you live in NH or if you are open to Naturopathic medicine, but I go to a Naturopathic doctor in Derry, NH. She is very kind and listens to what you have to say. I first went in because I was having a lot of issues with seasonal allergies, and extremely dry eyes and I was beginning to think there was something more systemic...
  5. Hi Kristen, I gave up gluten and dairy (and a few other items) last February after getting some bloodwork that suggested I might have some food sensitivities. Prior to starting the diet, I was diagnosed with celiac. I have been able to bring back all of the other items that I eliminated, except dairy. After 2 months of the diet, I tried introducing...
  6. When I was 4 months into my gluten-free diet after diagnosis last year, I had a similar issue to deal with. I was headed for a weekend get-a-way with a group of maybe 60 people. For breakfast/lunch I brought my own meals. For a couple of dinners, I did my research and found restaurants that had good gluten-free reviews. On the last night, the group has...
  7. I usually look here: Open Original Shared Link any time I am getting prescription or non-prescription drugs. I have found a couple that I feel safe with, and another that I called about but they didn't give me a warm fuzzy feeling. I have used Junel Fe, and Microgestin with no issues. The one that I called and wasn't sure of began with a "G", but...
  8. i am not a fan of raw oysters, but some of my family enjoyed a platter of them while we were there. they raved about them! have a good trip.
  9. Thanks pricklypear... I ended up bringing a bunch of food that i knew i could eat (tuna pouches, PB, nuts mixes, KIND bars) and figured i would hope for the best. i knew that i would be with a large group of cousins, and didn't want to be the 'whiner'. so, i went out and figured i would eat what i could, and know that i had stuff in my room if i needed...
  10. i am headed to NO this coming weekend for a funeral. now that i have my flights and hotel booked, i thought i should start thinking about what i might eat while i am there. my first stop in research was here... this is going to be a big family event, so i suspect i might have a hard time getting people to go to places that are convenient to me (there...
  11. The thing I miss more than any food, is the ability to be able to eat anything without having to worry about it, and the freedom to not have to plan every meal/snack of every day.
  12. Jalapano poppers: 1 package cream cheese ~11 jalapeno peppers 1 package bacon (I usually use turkey bacon because it has less fat, but am not sure what kinds are gluten-free) cut peppers in half (long way). remove most of the seeds/membrane - i like to keep a little membrane in for a little heat, or you can remove it all if you do not like spicy...
  13. I have not done a whole chicken in a crockpot, but I don't see what it wouldn't work. Good luck!
  14. I am also a big fan of making large amounts on the weekends - if you have the time/energy.... Have you tried roasting a chicken? The amount of prep time is minimal, and you end up with some good tasting bird. I use olive oil, salt and pepper, and maybe some poultry seasoning, and throw some garlic inside the cavity. I found information online the first...
  15. I am feeling a bit better today as well. I am hoping to feel even better tomorrow - pollen counts should go down. I am trying not to think about Friday when the pollen counts shoot up again I agree with you Gemini - it doesn't seem fair that we have to suffer for their good time
  16. thanks for the sympathy GFinDC - i am without A/C as well. at this point, the house is still buttoned up. i don't even consider opening the windows until i get through the tree pollen season... Adalaide - I have a similar experience with allergies. I remember being in high school gym class playing softball, and everyone asking me why i was crying...
  17. Sorry, I just need to whine a bit... I had been looking forward to spending a good part of this past weekend outdoors doing yard/garden work. Instead, I spent almost all of it indoors doing nothing, because I didn't want to make my allergies worse by being outdoors in the pollen, and I didn't feel like doing anything because the allergies were winning the...

    ARCHIVED Red Eyes?

ha ha i am told that i am not allergic to mold, though my eyes often bother me after a good rain storm (which should make them feel better). in past years, i would be ready to claw my eyes out this time of year. the restasis has really done wonders for me! before they put me on steroid drops, they recommended zatidor. if you haven't tried it, it...

    ARCHIVED Red Eyes?

Gemini - I also am not a big fan of having to use meds everyday, forever, but it really does make life so much better! I used to have to use the steroid drops 4 times a day this time of year, and still not really get relief. Now, I am done to Restatis 2 times a day, and occasionally needing 1 drop of the steroid drops. I have also noticed that my eyes...

    ARCHIVED Red Eyes?

I have not been diagnosed with Sjogren's, but also experience very dry eyes and allergies. I started using Restatis during the 6 months, and it is doing wonders! I still use allergy drops on occasion, but not nearly as much as in the past, and my eyes are looking and feeling much better. My boyfriend sometimes gets iritis, though generally only one...
  21. It is possible that you will become more sensitive to gluten the longer you are gluten-free... I too got diagnosed without the classic symptoms - I found someone that put 2 and 2 together when I went in to figure out why my seasonal allergies are so bad. In retrospect, I used to belch like crazy, but never suspected it might be celiac - though it has...
  22. I have been gluten-free for just over a year. I have been slightly over my ideal weight for the past 5 years or so, and that has not change since my diagnosis/diet change. During the first few months of gluten-free, I was ravenous!! I would eat a big dinner, and then an hour or two later, would eat a large "snack". As I was eating this much, I was not...
  23. i just ventured into gluten-free baking last year as well, and i also started with bob's gluten-free flour. my first recipe was my tried and true double chocolate zucchini bread: Open Original Shared Link I used the bob's flour as a direct replacement, and the xantham gum as they recommend on the package. i am also not eating dairy, so i sub'ed almond...
  24. I have not ventured out to baking bread from scratch yet (though I have had good results from pamela's bread mix). I have tried baking some of my old tried and true gluten recipes with the following substitutions: Bob's red mill all purpose gluten-free baking flour + xantham gum - same amount that recipe calls for I have also substituted almond milk...
  25. This is a very interesting thread... My cholesterol has been low for as long as I have been getting it tested regularly (~12 years). My total cholesterol has ranged from 105 to 130 (or something in that range). I was only diagnosed (and then went gluten-free) last year, so it will be interesting to see if anything changes the next time they test it....
