I had a very similar experience. I really thought I had the flu! High fever and all.... then I realized it was a gluten reaction.

In 2 weeks I am going on a 7 day Cruise to the Caribbean (Jamacia,Grand Cayman, Cozumel). This will be my son's first vacation and he is almost 8 years old. I REALLY don't want to get any gluten and ruin my cruise. Any suggestions on how to make sure my trip stays gluten free? I can't believe how much better I am doing. I have gone from barely being...

ARCHIVED How Bad Is Cheating On The Gluten Free Diet Periodically
roxieb73 replied to icm's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I don't/won't ever cheat. That is not to say I won't accidentally ingest gluten but never on purpose. I truely believe if we had not figured out that I have Celiac I would have been dead within a year. I am getting so much better and the suffering I endure is just not worth a piece of cake or whatever. When I am tempted I just ask myself..... "Do you really... -

ARCHIVED Testing Question
roxieb73 replied to ker0pi's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Also wanted to share this little thought....... I wrote to Dr. Vikki Peterson author of "The Gluten Effect" and told her my situation. This was part of what she told me. "Also noteworthy is eliminating gluten and feeling better - do realize that that in itself is a positive test for gluten sensitivity" https://www.celiac.com/authors/360/Dr.-Vikki... -

roxieb73 replied to roxieb73's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Thank you everyone! I have to say I have been tempted a few times to go off track. Especially when they bring yummy goodies in to work. Then I thought about how much better I am feeling and wanting to be able to walk and play with my son and all thoughts of taking a bite go bye bye. I still have a lot of work to do before my cruise next month wish me luck... -
ARCHIVED Testing Question
roxieb73 replied to ker0pi's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Woo Hoo soooo happy for you! That is awesome! Sounds very similar to me. My little brother asked me at the 4th of July if I was on speed. lol I asked why he just said I have so much energy and he hasn't seen me like that in forever. I have been gluten free almost 3 weeks and start PT to rebuild muscles I am already starting to walk better, more energy, and... -

ARCHIVED Declaring It Offical.......
roxieb73 posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Ok so I have been hesitant to say (even though all testing is done) that I am gluten intolerant possibly even have Celiac. Well after emailing back and forth with Dr Vikki Petersen (author of the Gluten Effect) I can offically say I have a very serious autoimmune gluten intolerance. I am double DQ1 with Lichen Planus, Iron deficeincy anemia, Severe Vit D... -

roxieb73 replied to Sunny1008's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Wow I had no idea. I guess I am just a lucky one and have not had any problems. My only issue is eating too much fruit. Causing lots of bathroom visits but I am sure as I learn to cook gluten free it will all even out. lol Hope you feel better soon!!! -

ARCHIVED Do I Really Have To Eat Gluten Again?
roxieb73 replied to heathenly's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I did the same thing and had the outcome you fear. I was told because of my genes that I am not celiac. However I do have Lichen Planus which is an auto immune reaction to Gluten. I also have a lot of the symptoms. Including Vitamin deficeincy. My Vit D was critically low. Then I have iron deficeincy anemia, so low iron, b12, folic acid. Low normal mag and... -
ARCHIVED Testing Question
roxieb73 replied to flex9198's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Do you happen to know about Lichen Planus? I have been told that is an autoimmune gluten rash similar to DH but not exclusive to Celiac. Of course they have just begun research. That is the rash I have. Curious just because I love to learn about these things where do you find this information? What is ttg-3&6? -

ARCHIVED Testing Question
roxieb73 replied to flex9198's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Nora I love your question here...... lol I have ALL of the above. Ok my 2 cents for what it is worth. I think since you had a positive result pre gluten free and negative afterward a gluten challenge is in order. I only say that because it sounds like you are one of the rare people who can actually withstand it without getting sick. IMHO Roxie -
ARCHIVED Very Frustrated
roxieb73 replied to aeon077's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
If you don't think you are getting anywhere with the docs a trial Gluten Free diet is in order. I would hate for you to wait months or longer to feel better if it can help just because the doctors are being dumb.
