  1. My pms noticeably has changed too. I get fewer migraines and my initial -first day- cramping is much less than it used to be. On the flip side, I never used to get sore breasts during pms. Sore back and fatigue prior to menstartion hasn't changed. Evening primrose oil is helpful for some pms symptoms. Start taking it about 10 days before menstration...
  2. If TSH is "normal" but you have antibodies along with hypo symptoms, I would push to try a low dose of treatment. Some doctors believe if you start on a low dose of T4 and T3 before too much damage is done to your thyroid, that the progression of the disease can be slowed... I don't think this is widely accepted or proven though. In this situation, I...
  3. There are a fair number of people around here diagnosed with a biopsy only. It's not that uncommon... If the blood tests are so accurate, why do doctors still bother with "gold standard" biopsy? KWIM? Your symptoms are very similar to mine... My first arthritis like pain hit in my early twnties too. It's scarey. (hug) If you do end up with a negative...
  4. I agree with everything Shadowicewolf said, especially about trying the diet out for her no matter what the results. My kids all tested negative for celiac but we switched them to gluten-free anyways; two of my three boys have shown real health improvements since going gluten-free. I don't have an official label for them but we seem to be on the right track...
  5. They like Peeps! Thanks. Now I just have to find some....
  6. I too have had dark circles under my eyes since childhood and my boys have it too (after about age 6). It's not bags for us though, just purple colour. I've been gluten-free (except for some accidents) for 9 months, and my boys have been for about 6 months. We haven't noticed any change yet. There is a link between celiac and some cancers including pancreatic...
  7. Around here, the Easter bunny hides plastic eggs all over our yard (this year it will be in snow drifts LOL) that are filled with chocolate eggs, jelly beans, and marshmallow chicks. My family is now gluten-free and it's harder to fill the eggs. I have bought small cheap toys to put in a good portion of our eggs but I still want to give the boys some treats...
  8. I don't think you need much. I got rid of a mesh collander and bought a new cutting board (the old one was splitting anyways) and that was it. I think if you clean everything well, in many cases, you will be fine. Oh, I also got rid of some silicon muffin tins/cups because I can't get them clean enough. What hurt my wallet at first was buying replacements...
  9. Welcome to the board. I recommend some good books like Dr. Green's book... I can't remember the title but it helped me a lot. Raid your library. It's amazing how many books on celiac and gluten-free cookbooks there are now. It's a trendy disease! LOL I recommend finding a whole foods store or hit the organic aisles of your grocer (if they have...
  10. My guess is that this varies from individual to individual. A couple of years ago, I was eating gluten light for health and weight loss (following the Eat-Clean diet that bodybuilders often use) and felt great... I had no idea I had gluten issues yet. I was doing P90X and the combination resulted in a 30lb weight loss and putting on muscle like crazy...
  11. I haven't tried quinoa pasta but the rice pastas are good. Spaghetti squash is even better with a nice tomato meat sauce on it. Mmmm.
  12. I'm glad you are going to see a GI specialist. I hope he does the full celiac blood panel again because it sounds like celiac or a non-celliac gluten sensitivity (NCGI or NCGS)... If you have either though, you have been doing yourself damage by only eating gluten once every week or so. Yes, it is only celiacs who get the intestinal flattening but both experience...
  13. I don't know much about Cyrex either, but I have heard some conflicting reports about their high positive rate too. Since you have not had relief of your symptoms, going back on gluten to get blood tests done should not be too uncomfortable....hopefully. That is if you decide to do further testing. The blood tests to request from a doctor are: Ttg IgA...
  14. Would your doctor give a diagnosis of non-celiac gluten intolerance (NCGI)? That way your kids will be covered if they need accommodations but you do not have to put them through weeks of gluten ingestion. I'm up in Canada where I think it must be easier to get care givers to accept health issues, but I ALWAYS send food with my kids when they are out of...
  15. His EMA titre was the same as mine.... After thirty odd years undiagnosed. Both tests have a specificity of over 90% so i think that a diagnosis is fairly certain with those two positive tests. The DGP IgG is very sensitive and specific... I think it is time to start buying gluten-free. Best wishes. I hope the transition goes well.
  16. I hope you are feeling fine soon, Neroli. ((Hugs))
  17. I doubt she has restricted too many items from her diet - she only cut four items and of those (milk, gluten, and corn) they are are unessential to our diet or not easily digestible. Only egg (as far as I know) contributes to our health.
  18. Welcome to the board. It could be celiac or non-celiac gluten intolerance (NCGI) based on your symptoms. If you can, I would get tested because you need to be eating gluten for about a month to get accurate tests and some people find that their reaction to gluten becomes worse after living gluten-free so reintroducing gluten later on might be a bad...
  19. I have no idea if my rt3 is high. My doctor has never brought it up, and to be honest I doubt he knows about it. He is very old school... I "doctor" his lab requests myself so my Free's get tested and not my Totals and he has never noticed! LOL I doubt my tr3 is high because my FT4 and FT3 are both staying low as I get treated. I wouldn't doubt my...
  20. I agree with everything Wolf and Takala said. Really good advice IMO. Withdrawl was bad for me and I was not a happy camper. I was extremely grumpy but I was able to recognize it as withdrawl so I waited it out. I think it lasted from week 1 to week 3 for me. Hang in there. Definitely request thyroid tests. Your TSH should be near a 1, Free T4 and...
  21. I've been so close to doing that soooo many times! It's usually with a candy or chocolate from someone's candy bowl... I miss random candy eating. LOL
  22. (HUGS) Sorry about the weight. Right now, I would assume you have celiac from your ARA test. I'm afraid I know nothing about biopsies since I never had one. I hope someone can offer you advice on that. I can't remember if you had the entire celiac panel done, but if you haven't you could use the wait time to complete your celiac testing before going...
  23. I agree. Get her tested, and if her tests are negative you can still try the gluten-free diet for a few months. My belly gets quite distended and bloated when I eat gluten. I have lately been accidentally glutening myself and I put on 10lbs while eating less over 2 months. I recently discovered what I was doing wrong and the weight is melting off again. Two...
  24. Two of my three children- all who tested negative to celiac disease - feel much better when they are off gluten; better *ahem* bathroom experiences, fewer headaches and stomach aches and their behaviour and concentration improved. They either have celiac and had a false negative or they are non-celiac gluten intolerant (NCGI). It doesn't make much difference...
  25. Celiac kept my hair thin but once I went gluten-free I started to get new growth; my regrowth is about 7 inches long now. After I was gluten-free for three months though, I had an autoimmune attack of some sort where my joint became very sore, I was more fatigued, and my hair started falling out like crazy. It was getting to the point where people were...
