  1. I get gluten migraines too; and have for probably the last 20 years. They usually last a few days to over a week. When they are at their peak, I take Brad Kings Ultimate migraine ... relief/medication... I can't remember the full name. It takes the edge off so I can still see and hear when I stand or make a direction change. It's not gone but the pain is...
  2. As long as you replace gluten foods with veggies and proteins, I would think it would be a healthier diet and possibly aid in weight loss. Don't replace all calories you cut from removing gluten foods either. For example, if you used to have a peanut butter sandwich with a tablespoon of peanut butter, switch to a small apple sliced with a teaspoon of peanut...
  3. I hear you! My dad and uncle where professional football players; dad was d-tackle and uncle was a lineman. My brother and I both started out big. There is an old wives tale about doubling your height at age 2 and it's supposed to indicate your adult height... I was supposed to be 6' (I'm 5'8") and my brother was going to be 6'7" but he stopped at 5'10"...
  4. Unless those are symptoms you get when you eat gluten normally, I would guess it's a flu... bad timing for you! (hugs) I hope it passes quickly and you feel better soon. I was one who went through some sort of withdrawl for the first two weeks. I was so cranky and tired but it passed before my family disowned me. Oh, I was also one who lost...
  5. I've actually noticed that too! Not as extreme as others but then again, I am not...ahem, gifted. I notice it mainly at night when I remove my bra, it's very tender for a while. Only happens for me when I'm pms'ing.
  6. I didn't realize my migraines were gluten related. I think I had a migraine 1/2 to 2/3 of the time before going gluten-free. They happen behind and above my eye sockets and radiates out from there to my whole head or my jaw. I feel like I want to squeeze my skull because the pain is expanding outwards... if that makes sense. I too would get auras, usually...
  7. I had a burst disc in my lower back a few years ago. As a result, I have some paralysis (drop foot) down my right leg and into my foot. I occassionally get muscle cramps in my shin at night, but I found the homeopathic remedy, Cuprum Metallicum really helped relieve my muscle cramps. Before my disc burst, I used to get back spasms and sciatic pain quite...
  8. I hope you are feeling better soon too, and good luck with whatever you decide.
  9. Doctors are starting to diagnose celiac based on the blood tests alone; I was. My positive tests were the ttg IgA and EMA. I never had the endoscopy. Many children, especially under age two, test false negative for celiac because (so the theory goes) they haven't had the time to develop enough of the antibodies to show up on a test. If that's the...
  10. (hugs) I hope she feels better and you find an answer soon.
  11. Good luck! And remeber that many of us go through a gluten-withdrawl for the first week or two, so it's possible you will feel worse before you start to feel better.
  12. I started looking into gluten intolerances a couple of years ago when we were starting to get my oldest son diagnosed with Asperger's syndrome; these kids sometimes have problems with casein and gluten. I was also reading wheat belly at the time and that convinced me that today's wheat isn't great for us so I slowly started cutting back on my grain consumption...
  13. I've had "C" and celiac my entire life. My mom told me stories how as an infant, I would get so blocked up that they would have to "help me" get things going with thermometres inserted where... ahem, you used to take a baby's temperature. This is back in the day when they introduced "solids" in the form of a thin wheat gruel before a baby was one month...
  14. I'm glad your thyroid is looking good. I agree with with Lisa and Mitzi, You have the antibodies so please be careful. At the very least, get retested in a few months... The inflammation untreated celiac causes could create more health problems if left ignored. When I was a young kid I had a lot of stomachaches but by time I was a young adult...
  15. I did the Biocard test and had a very faint line too. Then I had a partial celiac panel done of IgA, ttg IgA, and EMA a couple of weeks later. The ttg IgA was over 10X normal (the test stopped at that) and my EMA was 1:40. Those biocard tests (which is a ttg IgA test) work. You were diagnosed as a child and again now, I think that you have celiac. ...
  16. I had all my kids tested for celiac, and they all came back negative, including my 9 year old who I am almost certain has it. He too has growth that is slowing down. He used to be 75% for height and now he's in the 25-50% range; he's not that small so the doctors dismiss it but his 7 year old brother is now taller than him, and my year old will catch him...
  17. I agree with bartfull, those missing pieces getting filled in was amazingly helpful to me. I now have ideas about what foods could cause a gluten-free flare up, ideas of how long recovery takes, and found another AI disease that is linked to celiacs that I'm now being treated for. Thanks all.

    ARCHIVED "cheating"

Like you, I thought it was normal to get a stomachache after most meals. I even had a doctor tell me "she's one of those people who gets stoamach aches after she eats" when I was about 8. I dismissed it and got tough so I wouldn't grimace or double over when in front of people; I always carried a sweater so I could hold it over my bloated belly to disguise...
  19. Glad your sappointment was moved up. It's soooo hard to wait for those! I would right down all of your complaints, give a desciption of how it affects your life and how often (don't just say diahrea, say you must run to the bathroom within 20 minutes of eating and stay close to it for the next 6 hours... for example). Put the largest and most annoying...
  20. I agree with MitziG, you have celiac. There really are no false positive in those tests, just like there are no false positive pregancy tests; the tests are showing antibodies that most people don't have. You are under autoimmune attack. The reference ranges are lower than average but labs vary and it's probably accurate for that type of lab test...
  21. Your poor daughter. Celiac could be what is making her unwell; it has been known to get quite serious in some individuals if left untreated. These are the tests run in a celiac panel: Anti-Gliadin (AGA) IgA Anti-Gliadin (AGA) IgG Anti-Endomysial (EMA) IgA Anti-Tissue Transglutaminase (tTG) IgA Deamidated Gliadin Peptide (DGP) IgA...
  22. I had my vits during the second week of my gluten-free diet. I was expecting low levels because of low energy (which I took a bunch of vits for) and everything came back normal, with my B12 a bit too high. My only abnormal test was TSH so the low energy was hypothyroidism.
  23. I'll just add after 1 month gluten-free I had a obvious stomach ache within 30 minutes of being glutened, followed by bloat and an overall down feeling and a migraine that lasted a few days. My gluten stomach ache is pretty clear too. It just hurts where as if I eat too much I feel too full, and if I eat a bunch of junk my stomach will be turning. They...
  24. I would try to get an EMA test out of him (or someone else) since that one is pretty definitive. And if your intestines are "only slightly blunted", what does he think caused that? The evil intestine fairy?? Sheesh! I hate it when doctors dismiss a diagnosis but don't look into other causes. That tells me they are either lazy, or pretty sure it's celiac...
  25. Yikes. I would talk to a doctor about that too. I have low blood pressure and have had problems with fainting in the past. Whe my BP gets very low I see shapes and sharks when I'm near fainting; time does odd things then. If you have low BP, an intolerance could mess with you... The visual distortions sound like a migraine aura. Is that a possibility...
