  1. So glad you know. And to have all tests positive is unsual! It doesn't get much clearer than that though. LOL
  2. I used to get a sinus or chest infection a couple of times a year before going gluten-free. I haven't had one in almost 2 years now.... I think your system just gets worn down after being active so much and you just catch everything - that's just my own theory and interpretation though.
  3. It could be celiac. Those are definitely some of the symptoms. Did you have blood tests done too? I ask because a minority of celacs have positive blood work but negative biopsies. Could that be you? Welcome to the boards.
  4. I bought my at a local health/whole food store called Amaranth. They had it in stock special for celac awareness month a few years back, they don't normally carry it though.
  5. Constipation? Oh yes... It is way more common than doctors seem to think. Heck, I had over 35 years of it! LOL Ear infections(and sinus and chest infections) are another problem related to celiac disease.
  6. Tomorrow? Great. I hope the results are very clear cut for you. A weakly positive tTG IgA can be caused by colitis, crohn's, diabetes, thyroiditis, chronic liver disease, and a serious infection BUT your test result was not weakly positive. You were double the normal upper limit whereas I would consider a weak positive to be a 6.5 or 7 something...
  7. No, not at all. My only problem was getting enough blood after the skin prick. I recommend running your hand under warm/hot water and then swinging your hand around to get the blood pooled into your fingers. I had a very weak positive with mine, partially due to less than ideal amount of blood in the test. A few weeks later when I retested at the doctor...
  8. I'm glad she doesn't feel sick everyday... my concern is that if she is getting gluten every few days, or once a week or so, even in very small amounts (like a cheerio) she will still have an autoimmune reaction (if she is indeed celiac disease as the test seems to indicate) and that will cause systemic inflammation (not bloating) that will affect her health...
  9. If your family gives you grief over it, you can honestly say, "I tested positive for celiac disease." It's true! You just have a clueless doctor who did not recognize that fact, and tested you without a gluten challenge. LOL I know what you mean about wanting more "proof" that you have to go gluten-free, but you may not get any. It looks like...
  10. 6 months is a long time to eat gluten for a celiac. Would it be possible to eat gluten everyday and then retest at 8-12 weeks? Get all the tests done, especially the tTG and DGP ones? That's just so long to not feel well...
  11. I mostly felt fine in my early 20's too. I looked good, ran marathons, had a great social life... but after eating gluten my whole life my poor health caught up to me in my 30's . I hurt, I'm tired and I am not looking that hot any more. If you want to start eating gluten again, I strongly suggest that you get retested so that you don't damage yourself with...
  12. I would get tested before going gluten-free is at all possible. Accurate celiac tests need 8-12 weeks of gluten (1-2 slices of bread per day) with 12 weeks being best. It would be less painful for you to test now rather than reintroduce gluten into your diet for a few months after feelng better gluten-free. Some people can't even make it through the gluten...
  13. Those are all pretty common symptoms except D is more common that C, but constipation is by no means rare in celiac disease. I sure saved on toilet paper back before I started eating gluten-free. LOL Someone around here said that IBS is doctor talk for "I Be Stumped". I would be willing to bet that a good third of the people around here were told...
  14. Do you know what your lab's reference ranges were? Was it 0-20? I'm surprised that you had a weak positive on the DGP IgA is you have been gluten-free, even though you did have some gluten prior to testing. The DGP IgA tests shows an autoimmune reaction to gliadian which is only positive in celiacs - it is not thought to be a test for those with non-celiac...
  15. I had those tests run on me when we were looking into lupus.... It looks like you are negative for lupus anyways. For celiac disease, you need tTG IgA and IgG, DGP IgA and IgG, EMA IgA, total serum IgA, and possibly the older AGA IgA and IgG tests.
  16. A weak positive tTG IgA can, in a small minority of positive tests (<5%), indicate thyroiditis, diabetes, crohn's, colitis, chronic liver disease or a serious infection.... But 95% of the time a positive means celiac disease. Both the tTG test are for autoantibodies to the endomysial lining of the intestines; the IgA part of the immune system is tested...
  17. I'm glad you are feeling better in spite of the mediacl advice you received. That's a crying shame that they did not share the correct results of your biopsy with you! It sounds like celiac disease to me too. I think you did the right thing going gluten-free when you did. If you decide to do more testing, you'll need to resume eating gluten (equivalent...
  18. The only celiac test you had done was the tTG IgA (anti tissue transglutaminase immunoglobulin A) and it was negative. It is advisable to have more than one test done as false negative test results (even when your IgA levels are normal) are not uncommon. These are the tests that can be done: tTG IgA and tTG IgG DGP IgA and DGP IgG (newer tests that...
  19. Here's one version of the list of signs, symptoms, and related disorders: Open Original Shared Link
  20. My D was at the low end of normal before diagnosis, when I was taking 2-3000 IU per day. After 2 years gluten-free, and taking 10,000 IU per day my D is still at the low end of normal. I blame some of that on living in Canada. LOL
  21. A positive tTG IgG probably means celiac. When you see the doctor ask for the rest of the celiac tests to be run: tTG IgA, DGP IgA, DGP IgG, total serum IgA, EMA IgA. Good luck!
  22. Lisalee, start your own topic in prediagnosis and list all the tests, as well as their ranges, and then you'll get more help on that.
  23. You probably should cut back on eating out, that's how many celiacs get "glutened". It's just not as safe as when you make it yourself at home. You should probably start with learning to cook the basics. Rice (1/2c rice, 1c water, bring to boil on stove then cover pot, reduce heat to simmer (barely boiling) for 40-45 minutes), rice noodles, and boiled...
  24. I think toilet paper is ... paper and made from the cellulose pulp of trees... I don't think wheat is used to make paper, is it? Bah, I don't eat it either. As for the friend who brought the glutenous dessert, I agree that she was not thinking ad it is inappropriate. Just remember tha many people's brain's go blank when they try to think of a food without...
