ARCHIVED Antibodies Dropping Far More Slowly At Nine Months gluten-free
nvsmom replied to KCG91's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I'm another who took a long time to come down. My last tes was at over a year gluten-free, and it was just about normal (20.9 with and upper limit of 20) but that was after I was put on some steroids so that may have affected it. I will be having myself tested again this summer, and I'm curious if it will go up now that I'm off steroids. I do have a thyroid... -
ARCHIVED Conflicting Information On How Much Gluten For The Gluten Challenge
nvsmom replied to BlessedMommy's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Most I have seen say a gluten challenge should be 8-12 weeks with 1-2 slices of bread per day or equivalent. -
ARCHIVED Test Results - Opinions Please
nvsmom replied to cosmicmouse's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
The DNA testing is Greek to me too. It looks like she has the DQ2, which is associated with celiac disease, but about 30% of the world has that yet only 1% of the world has celiac disease. A positive genetic test just means that she is in the 30% group of people most at risk of developing celiac disease, and not that she has celiac disease. She only had... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Beer/ale
nvsmom replied to rick797's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
In my opinion, Estrella Daura's labeling is very misleading. I had one of those a couple of years ago, and halfway through the beer I was checking the label because I could feel the pain coming on.... Maybe my bottle wasn't "de-glutened" enough but I'll never have it again. -

ARCHIVED Positive Dgp Test While On gluten-free Diet - Should I Get Endoscopy?
nvsmom replied to Kias4's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I hear you on that! I skipped the biopsy myself after having a positive tTG IgA and EMA IgA. I feel quite a bit better gluten-free, so I think I did the right thing. -

ARCHIVED Quick Questions About Tests
nvsmom replied to beth01's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
About 5% of celiacs are deficient in IgA so it is a good idea to get that checked just in case... Someone has to be that 1 in 20, right? I don't believe IgG deficiency is linked to celiac disease at all. The tTG tests are very good tests but they can miss a few people. If possible it gives a more accurate result if other tests are run too. The anti... -
ARCHIVED Positive Dgp Test While On gluten-free Diet - Should I Get Endoscopy?
nvsmom replied to Kias4's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
The DGP tests are one of the fastest to turn positive if gluten is sneaking into your diet. Is it possible that you are getting some gluten in soy sauce, lotions or hair products, BBQ sauces or cross contaminated food like butter? That test is pretty specific to celiac disease, so if it's positive, it is probably due to celiac disease - especially when... -
ARCHIVED Frustrated With Co-Parent
nvsmom replied to Christina.V's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I didn't reaize the upper limit of her lab was 15 - she's almost double the upper limit.... that's getting beyond slightly elevated -
I'm sorry you have no support. Perhaps start doing the grocery shopping and only buy gluten-free foods? If it is not in the house it will be harder for them to eat it around you.

ARCHIVED Igg Against Ttg 18 Month Old Babies Results....
nvsmom replied to brit16's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
There is a chance that the biopsy could have a false negative. Celiac damage can be patchy so the more sample taken the better - 6 is considered to be a good starting point with more being better. More samples will mean a more accurate test. Enjoy gluten this week. A couple of servings per day should be enough but if more can be tolerated, might as well... -
ARCHIVED Glutenase Alv003 Protects Celiacs Against Gut Damage From Gluten - Celiac.com
nvsmom replied to Scott Adams's topic in Publications & Publicity
That would make more sense! The article sounded like it was just protecting the intestines, which is why I wondered how effective it would be overall. Thanks. It was partially that line that made me think it was just prevention of intestinal damage.... they missed a lot of info. -
ARCHIVED Glutenase Alv003 Protects Celiacs Against Gut Damage From Gluten - Celiac.com
nvsmom replied to Scott Adams's topic in Publications & Publicity
I just don't think stuff like that will be safe for celiacs. Will protecting my villi also protect me from hair loss, arthritis, osteopenia, cognitive issues, migraines and constipation? I think something else is going on in a celiac besides villi damage... just my opinion though. -

ARCHIVED Eaten Gluten Twice With No Obvious Reaction?
nvsmom replied to Jamie1450's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
People don't always react, and by that I meant that they are showing no noticeable symptoms. You can be sure that an autoimmune reaction has begun in his body, but it might not manifest with regular symptoms. Some people have symptoms that seem to have nothing to do with gut issues. My 12 year old cousin was diagnosed after he had cognitive issues. Others... -
There are a few god lists. Here are some: /celiac-disease/forbidden-gluten-food-list-unsafe-ingredients-r182/ Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link In Canada, there is a law that if a food contains, or may contain, gluten, it must have a warning on it's ingredients list. And if it doubt, skip it.

ARCHIVED One Child Celiac, The Other Not
nvsmom replied to beth01's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
If he is eating 100% gluten-free, it does not immediately matter if he does have celiac disease because you are treating him anyways. It would not make sense to do a gluten challenge since he will be eating gluten-free anyways. If he is eating gluten, just not everyday, then it does make more sense to do a three month gluten challenge every few years and... -
ARCHIVED Is Endoscopy Necessary?
nvsmom replied to beth01's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Some doctors like to make sure it is celiac when dealing with the tTG IgA because it has a small (about 5%) false negative rate BUT that occurs mainly in the weak positive tests, like if the upper normal limit was 4 and she scored a 5. 100 is a high result regardless of what upper normal limit was used. There are many other blood tests you could do to... -

ARCHIVED Spring Is Finally Here
nvsmom replied to nvsmom's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Winter clothes? That's nuts. Up here we don't get fall clothes in the stores until August.... In May we are still getting an occassional snow fall. LOL It's going to close to 20C today. No rain. Scattered clouds. No breeze.... Lovely. -
ARCHIVED Is Endoscopy Necessary?
nvsmom replied to beth01's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
For an endoscopy, the gluten challenge is shorter, 2-4 weeks, so it might be doable. If there is no doubt that she has celiac disease, then it is most likely not needed. Some like to get it done to look for other problems, and others like to do it so they have a starting point to comapre back to if things do not improve on the gluten-free diet. Some have... -
ARCHIVED Frustrated With Co-Parent
nvsmom replied to Christina.V's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Her daughter does not have a diagnosis yet, and the doctors are dragging their feet, so that makes it hard, if not imossible, to make him comply. -
Funnily enough, I never had pms breast tenderness until after I went gluten-free at age 38. I'm another who doesn't want anything touching them when they are sore. And taking off a bra at the end off the day? Ouch! I suppose I could be approaching menopause, but my cycles are much much more regular after going gluten-free and getting the optimal treat ment...

You might want to consider taking some T3 in addition to your T4 meds, or try some natural desiccated thyroid (like Armour or Erfa's Thyroid). It could make a big difference, and T3 will drop your TSH. I was on a full replacement dose of Synthroid (around 180 I think), and we could barely get my TSH down below a 3 - I felt the same as I did when my TSH...
