I started out optimistic and positive about eating gluten-free, based on the immediate and significant benefits I received once I stopped eating it. Even though I didn't test positive for Celiac (which made all of my gluten-eating friends happy, because they thought I could cheat once in a while with no long-term repercussion), I have never caved to temptation...

ARCHIVED Celiac Tests Negative.
heathenly replied to heathenly's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
My doctor at least believes in gluten sensitivity, so he told me not to eat gluten if I do better off of it. Truthfully, even if he thought sensitivity/intolerance was bunk, I wouldn't care. I wouldn't eat gluten again if someone paid me. -

I have to keep in mind how miserable I was eating gluten. It was so not worth it. I also don't want to test the theory that gluten intolerance is "pre-Celiac"-- don't want to have full-blown Celiac down the road. KMM, I think it really helped me to get rid of everything with gluten in my house. No temptation to eat anything with gluten. Also, it helped... -

Guess I'll just keep on not eating gluten and feeling better! -
I understand why it bothers you, believe me. There's not a whole lot of wiggle room with apathy and abject despair. And there are so many doctors out there that just aren't helping.

Preaching to the choir. I'm just under 5' tall. My 15 lb weight gain has been devastating. But cutting out wine?? Don't get carried away! -
I'm really hoping that a good chunk of time without gluten will straighten my PMS and periods out some. Another bad side effect of PMS: insane gluten craving. I had to drive halfway across town today to the only gluten-free bakery to get a freaking chocolate cupcake.

ARCHIVED Nervous About What To Say When Ordering
heathenly replied to AGH2010's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
I just discovered the Find Me Gluten Free app, and I think it's a good starting place. I had my first "special ordering" opportunity at Chipotle (first time I've been to a restaurant since going gluten free), and found that I kind of sucked at it, even though I'd been mentally rehearsing it. I didn't start out with the spiel because as I walked up, the server... -
I hear ya. I think others in my family may have gluten issues to go along with their other autoimmune issues, but the only one who has any interest in my observations is my son, who has Crohn's. The rest are, oh, how interesting, but I don't think that's MY problem. And thanks for those articles you sent me, but I didn't have time to read them. The worst...

Nope. Feel great. Just waiting for that increased energy that I had last time I went gluten-free. -

Your visit is probably over, but: Zyrtec. The only one that ever worked for my cat allergy. Hope you survived! -
How weird-- I just posted this same topic in the "coping" forum. I'm one week gluten-free too, and have no appetite. In my case, I figured out the gluten issue because I was uncharacteristically eating ravenously, so I have a little gluten weight to lose. But I'm not used to having no appetite.

That sounds like something I can handle! I have to stop waiting until I get shaky before I eat something... -

Yikes. I'd make them call me, for that kind of drive. -
Wow, I hope the ones in Tucson are so accommodating! Would love a veggie and rice bowl!

I'm one week off gluten (again) after my brief gluten challenge, and I am just NOT hungry. I've been forcing myself to eat a couple of small meals each day because my stomach rumbles and I can tell my body is hungry, but the thought of food usually makes me feel slightly gross. I'm making delicious homemade mostly whole-foods meals, but nothing really tastes... -
ARCHIVED Awkward Dinner Moments
heathenly replied to beachbirdie's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Yeah, I'm worried I'll stop receiving invitations out to eat because of the difficulty (both real and perceived) of finding safe restaurant food options. I don't like having to be the Special Case, or having to explain to people who are trying to be helpful that taking the meat out of the bun isn't good enough, etc. I just want people to eat what they want... -
ARCHIVED How Many Do Whole Foods Only?
heathenly replied to heathenly's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Looking online, I don't see much agreement as to what constitutes "whole food," so I'll just stick as close to unprocessed as I can. Realistically, I'll be using oil and butter and simple seasonings like salt and pepper. And dairy will still be included (cheese, butter, cream). Also, vodka probably not a whole food... -

Hmmmm, I hadn't been thinking of things like oil, salt, pepper, etc. as processed foods. Guess I need to read up! -
ARCHIVED After Testing, Did Dr. Make You Come Back In For Results?

I haven't eaten gluten since the night before the endoscopy! Good to know! Guess I'll see the dr in a week, then. -

As a newbie, my friends are nice enough to keep buying me packaged, processed gluten-free stuff, but I'm starting to feel I can live without almost all of it. Everything except pasta, maybe. Do many of you do nothing but whole foods? I can see how it could be done... a little more work, but doable... -
ARCHIVED After Testing, Did Dr. Make You Come Back In For Results?
heathenly posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Because my doctor, right after my endoscopy last Friday, had me call in to make an appointment for two weeks out. I'm guessing to go over my results? Is this just another co-pay grab? Is there something I don't know?
