ARCHIVED Are You Dreaming More Since Being gluten-free?
Rachel--24 replied to chestnut's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I guess I'm the opposite because for 2 years before going gluten-free I had nightmares nearly every night. Since the diet I dont think I've had any nightmares at all. I rarely dream now. I just sleep peacefully. The nightmares were horrible and I'd wake up with alot of anxiety from them. -
Hi, I can't recommend a doctor for you but just wanted to say I'm sorry for all you've gone through with your daughter. I will keep her in my prayers.

ARCHIVED Great Coconut Macaroons!
Rachel--24 replied to CMCM's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I soooo love those macaroons! I buy the single ones and I have one in my cupboard right now waiting for me to get better and able to eat processed foods again. -
ARCHIVED Probitics Question
Rachel--24 replied to Rachel--24's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Jennifer, I got it at Raley's. I'm in CA so I dont know if you have Raley's in your area. It comes in capsules and it was in the refridgerated health section of the store. Raleys has alot of health food and even a glutenfree section. -
ARCHIVED Question For Any Really Underweight Celiac's?
Rachel--24 replied to ronapa's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I'm probably not considered extremely underweight at 105 and 5'2. I did get down to 94 lbs. before the diet but even though I've gained some back...I have to eat all day or I lose it pretty quickly. Also alot of it is bloating. I was at around 120 when healthy and would like to get back up there again. People commented on my weight alot when I was at 94... -
ARCHIVED Biopsy Questions - How Bad Is It?
Rachel--24 replied to roses8's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I had the numbing spray but if it bothered me I was "out" too soon to notice. -
ARCHIVED Probitics Question
Rachel--24 replied to Rachel--24's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Thanks everyone for your input. I just bought Primadophilus Reuteri by Nature Made. I was checking out the C-Diff support forum since I just dx'd with having C-Diff infection. It seemed like alot of people were recommending this probiotic and I happened to see it at the grocery store today so I'll give it a try. Its got Lactobacillus rhamnosus, Lactobacillus... -
ARCHIVED Testing/ Son Is Going In For Biopsy & Blood Testing
Rachel--24 replied to skurtz's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I'm sorry but it seems to me that you are *asking* us for opinions and advice and then when its offered to you...you want to either disprove it or insult the person who offered the advice. I for one, will no longer respond to your questions. You spefically asked if the tests the doctor is ordering are sufficient for your son. I, and the other posters all... -
ARCHIVED Biopsy Questions - How Bad Is It?
Rachel--24 replied to roses8's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
There is really no pain at all during or after the biopsy. Some people experience a sore throat at the most. I felt nothing. There are no antibiotics or pain meds needed. A root canal is FAR worse. I would have the biopsy again without hesitation. I felt really relaxed afterwards but I was a bit loopy from the anesthetic. When I woke up after the procedure... -
ARCHIVED Testing/ Son Is Going In For Biopsy & Blood Testing
Rachel--24 replied to skurtz's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I think many of use here have learned the hard way that the "specialists" really don't know all that they should regarding Celiac. Of course you should do what you feel feel best for your child but my advice is to do your own research and be aware that your son could have a negative biopsy and still have Celiac. Also as far as the bloodwork....those tests... -
ARCHIVED Hi Everyone, I Got Better, 20 Pages Of New Posts To Read
Rachel--24 replied to Matilda's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi Matilda, I'm glad to see you're still doing well. I remember you posting that all of a sudden after 9 months you were feeling pretty good. I figured since you stopped posting you must be past the "everything makes me sick" stage and enjoying life. I totally agree with everything you've said about avoiding processed foods and preparing your... -

This is probably a really dumb question BUT...I'm going to ask anyway. Is lamb considered red meat?

ARCHIVED Testing/ Son Is Going In For Biopsy & Blood Testing
Rachel--24 replied to skurtz's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
As Nini already stated.....those tests have nothing to do with Celiac. The TSH is a thyroid test and the others are for various other things but nothing related to Celiac. The Celiac bloodtests were already posted by Nini in the second post of this thread....those are the tests the doctor needs to order. If your son is having an endoscopy/biopsy looking... -
ARCHIVED Omg- I Got A Diagnosis!
Rachel--24 replied to a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Not having either of the 2 main genes can never rule out Celiac 100%. There is a small percentage of Celiacs who have neither DQ2 or DQ8. Both my GI and my new doctor have told me that they haven't yet identified all genes associated with Celiac so a negative gene test alone is not enough to rule out celiac disease. -
This was my post back in August. The gluten-free diet made a huge difference as far as the night sweats. I dont wake up drenched anymore or have to change clothes in the middle of the night. Howver, the night sweats havent disappeared...they are just not as severe. My thyroid and all else checks out fine....I was just diagnosed with a C. Diff infection so...

ARCHIVED Gluten Intolorence/celiac
Rachel--24 replied to francelajoie's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Its basically the same thing except for with Celiac you get damage to your villi whereas Gluten Intolerance without Celiac causes symptoms and/or damage in other ways. The treatment is the same either way. You have to avoid gluten 100% to remain healthy. -
ARCHIVED Need Some Help
Rachel--24 replied to momandgirls's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My advice is to trust your instincts. The bloodtest was positive, the endoscopy borderline, gene test also positive..and she is symptomatic. I definately would start her on the diet if I were in your shoes. For some reason doctors are very reluctant to dx Celiac unless they see flattened villi. If you wait for that to show up your daughter will be in much... -
ARCHIVED Mcd Fries 2: The Phone Calls :)
Rachel--24 replied to ryebaby0's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Thanks Peter, This was my point exactly. Just because you don't react to the fries doesnt prove them to be 100% gluten-free. On the other hand just because someone else does react to the fries doesnt mean they are unsafe for all Celiacs. You just gotta do whats best for you. Also someone may react to the fries for a reason totally unrelated to gluten... -
ARCHIVED Mcd Fries 2: The Phone Calls :)
Rachel--24 replied to ryebaby0's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Yes, this is why I said if you *know* what your reaction to gluten is and you dont react to the fries they may be completely safe for you. If you are asymptomatic then obviously you have no idea what the fries may or may not be doing to you so in that case you'd have to make a personal decision about whether or not you're willing to risk your health over... -
ARCHIVED What Are Your Thoughts On.....
Rachel--24 replied to danikali's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Whole Foods gluten-free Bakehouse stuff is all made in a dedicated facility....same with Kinnikinnick and Enjoy Life. There is no chance of C.C. -
I only eat organic unprocessed meats. I also only eat wild fish....nothing farmed. Everything else is full of antibiotics and who knows what else. Its definately not good for those who have delicate digestive systems already.

ARCHIVED Are We Never Going To Be 'normal' Again?
Rachel--24 replied to danikali's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I think what you're asking is are you going to continue to live with these on and off pains regardless of how careful you are with your diet. Some people do have to live with problems due to many years of undiagnosed Celiac. For some the problems will stay with them....others will feel completely normal (physically) as long as they avoid gluten. It pretty...
