ARCHIVED Do You Ever Miss The Stupid Things?
Rachel--24 replied to Lauren M's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I've eaten like that my whole life. One of anything was never enough. When my ex would pack me a lunch it would be 2 sandwiches, 2 bags of chips...etc. Maybe it was the Graves Disease but I just never gained weight. I always wanted to be bigger and finally I did gain some weight (and loved it). The malabsorption pretty much took care of that and now it's... -

Can't believe I forgot to mention my *all-time* favorite. McDonald's BIG-MAC. I used to order 2 + chicken nuggets. Also Taco Bell bean burritos with sour cream...last time I had those I broke out in a rash though. -
After my last meal I ended up in the ER. I was already very sick but wasnt thinking about gluten because my bloodtests were negative. The meal was some kind of breaded fish sandwich with fries. I only ate half of it because I got too sick. Too bad I had no idea it would be my last...if I had known I probably would have had pizza or a big Italian spaghetti...

ARCHIVED Anything I Should Know?
Rachel--24 replied to JessicaB's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I had the same experience as Gabby except for the frog in my throat. I only thing I felt when I woke up...was pretty doped up. I was kind of out of it for about an hour...I felt really relaxed. -

Really? That seems bizarre to me. Is it like that everywhere in Italy? -
ARCHIVED How May Of You
Rachel--24 replied to Becky6's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I had negative bloodtests (2 weeks gluten-free before tests). I figured it was something else wrong with me so after only trying the diet for those 2 weeks I went back to eating normal and gradually got sicker and sicker. I went on a anti-candida diet and dramatically improved within days so figured I had found out my problem...Candida. I was *mostly* gluten... -

ARCHIVED I Have Actual Lab Tests In Hand..
Rachel--24 replied to cherie012's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It doesnt sound like the proper tests were run. The best tests are the tTG and EMA. Also if the IgA and IgG arent specifically for anti-gliadin then they are useless as far as diagnosing Celiac. -

Rachel--24 replied to Irishjoe's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yes you do have to check your meds to make sure they're gluten-free. The delphi list has a list of drugs which are gluten-free but it always best to call the manufacturer and double-check. -

Funny you should mention chestnuts. I just bought some the other day. I actually dont remember ever having tried them and I have no clue how to make them. Do I just put them in the oven for awhile or what? -
ARCHIVED Omg Omg Omg!
Rachel--24 replied to cherie012's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Thats great news! Wasnt it just a couple days ago the doctor was suggesting meds? Sounds like your child is responding very quickly to the diet change so I'm sure you have your answer now. -
ARCHIVED I Have Actual Lab Tests In Hand..
Rachel--24 replied to cherie012's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Every lab has different "values" as to what is positive or negative so I dont think it would be possible to tell you what number a positve would have been. Were these tests specifically for Celiac? The Celiac panel consists of these 5 tests: Anti-Gliadin (AGA) IgA Anti-Gliadin (AGA) IgG Anti-Endomysial (EMA) IgA Anti-Tissue Transglutaminase (tTG... -

Pre-gluten-free diet I was *extremely* depressed with all kinds of horrible mood swings. Now when I'm glutened I kind of go into a rage and don't want to be around anyone. I get VERY irritable and snappy. I sometimes lock myself in the bathroom just to be alone. After the initial reaction I'm just sad and depressed for a few days.

ARCHIVED Diagnosis Issue
Rachel--24 replied to aliciasmom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Lots of people have positive antibodies but still test negative in a biopsy or do not carry either of the main Celiac genes. These people are labeled gluten intolerant w/out Celiac. It really doesnt matter what you call it because the treatment is the same for both. A negative biopsy also doesnt mean she *doesnt* have Celiac...she just may not have intestinal... -
ARCHIVED Diagnosis Issue
Rachel--24 replied to aliciasmom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Once the disease is "triggered" its always active....even in the absence of symptoms. If she had positive antibodies that doesn't mean that she carries the gene. Only a gene test can determine that. Positive antibodies would indicate that her immune system is "attacking" gluten. Her immune system wouldn't be fighting the disease...it would actually be the... -
ARCHIVED What Did You Eat Today?
Rachel--24 replied to CaliGirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hmmm...I don't think anything I've eaten today is "to die for" but it's all very healthy. ARCHIVED Test Results: Gluten Intolerance Vs. Wheat Allergy
Rachel--24 replied to dkaup112500's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
You can't give her wheat if she has gluten intolerance. I've never really heard of a gluten allergy?? Has she ever been tested for celiac or gluten intolerance? It cant be tested for in allergy tests. If she's reacting to gluten then she's also reacting to wheat wether the allergy test says it or not. Gluten Intolerance is autoimmune not an allergy so those... -
ARCHIVED Brain Fog
Rachel--24 replied to Irishjoe's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
One of my main symptoms was brain fog. I was completely unable to focus to the point that I sometimes couldn't drive. I also never looked people in the eye during that time...I always looked down. I still dont quite understand that part but it all cleared up on the diet. I had only mild gastro symptoms. I never even mentioned them to my doc since my other... -
ARCHIVED What Test Now?
Rachel--24 replied to LauraZ's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
First...Enterolab doesnt diagnose Celiac because traditionally the biopsy is still considered the "gold standard". Enterolab can only tell you if you are reacting to gluten, have damage occuring, and if you are genetically susceptible. You will have to put the pieces together from there. 1. You can be hyper-sensitive to gluten w/out being Celiac. This... -
ARCHIVED Help!
Rachel--24 replied to cami's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Not necessarily. Lots of Celiac are actually overweight before diagnosis. -
This is pretty much the same way I feel about it. I handle it the same as you but I recognize that to others its a bigger deal. I work in a grocery store so I'm looking at gluten all day long and handling all the foods I cant eat anymore. It really doesnt phase me that much. We have pot lucks and bbq's at work and they always ask me what they can get for...
