  1. I did ELISA testing through Great Smokies...which you do need a doctor for. If you go through York (there are others here who have used them) you can order the test yourself. Its expensive though. Dont know what York charges but I paid $350. Do you keep a food diary? IMO its almost a necessecity...I've been keeping a diary for almost a year. I would start...
  2. Michelle, What *can* you eat? Are you eating fruits? I was on some kind of strict candida diet for 4 months before finding out about gluten intolerance. I wasnt even eating fruits. It was kinda crazy since I never ate healthy in my life but there I was eating only meat and veggies for 4 months. I never had sugar once....and you're right...the craving...
  3. The allergist will probably only test you for IgE "true" allergies...which you know you dont have. Have you ever been tested for IgG delayed-onset food sensitivities? That might be something to look into? Also what kind of trail mix are you eating and gluten-free crackers are you eating? You might be better off not eating any processed foods at all for awhile...
  4. I dont know how sensitive you are but I don't believe Bob's Red Mill products are 100% gluten-free because I react to all of their products. Of course, it could be something else you reacted to and not gluten. Some other people here have posted they've had reaction's from Bob's as well. Are you OK with the other Bob's gluten-free stuff?
  5. I think the normal recommendation is around 12 weeks.
  6. He sure does...doesnt he!
  7. The first time I was scheduled for endo/colonoscopy I had been gluten-free only for a couple weeks and not 100%. I was in a hurry, not feeling good and apparantly not looking in the right place because I couldnt find the phospo soda so I got magnesium citrate instead. Back then pretty much everything bothered me...it was like my insides were raw because I...
  8. I used to be itchy all the time but never thought much about it. I'm just realizing (after reading this) the itchiness went away...probably when I went gluten-free...dont know cuz I wasnt really paying much attention. I had far worse symptoms to deal with. Anyways....since Thanksgiving night I've been itching again. Its not a rash...just prickly/itchy...
  9. Good luck to you! Glad your hubby is supporting you.
  10. Yes...the diet wont affect gene testing so you could still do that whenever you want. Enterolab does gene testing for I think $150.
  11. Well, I agree with the others about your doctor giving you false info. and basically blowing your chance for a diagnosis back then. I'm assuming you've been gluten-free for over a year now?? Tests would be pretty much useless now but since you did have positive IgG, family history and a positive response to the diet...I would just assume you're doing the...
  12. Well...nobody can really predict what will happen with your bloodtests but the antibody number you have is not indicative of severity. Enterolab states on the report (you should have it) that the number you are referring to does not indicate severity in symptoms or damage...etc. A positive is a positive....a result of 11 can be equal to a score of 200 in...
  13. I think its good that your doctor is sending you for a biopsy. You do have something going on. It could be Celiac....remember, it could still be Celiac even if the biopsy is negative. I think I remember reading that it takes alot of damage for the tTG to be positive in the bloodwork. That part of the test may have been negative because there isnt alot of...
  14. I guess I'm totally the opposite. I never expereinced pms until I became symptomatic. Then for that whole 3 years I had it BAD. I dreaded it every month. Since the day I went off gluten I havent had pms again...knock on wood.
  15. Did you have an endoscopy with the colonoscopy? How did she do the biopsy? Also why didnt she give you your bloodtest results? Have you asked for them?
  16. Pardon my ignorance but what is Scoliosis? Is it another autoimmune disease or a skin condition?
  17. I dont really remember them getting into the seizure aspect. Did he have a seizure? I saw the episode about a month ago...I dont remember if he actually had a seizure...he would kind of go into a catatonic (sp?) state. It was like he was zoned out...is that a seizure?
  18. Looks like you've already got quite a welcoming. I'm a little late but welcome to the board...sounds like you had a rough time. Hope you get better soon.
  19. Ok...I *get* what you're saying. I do think Celiac can manifest itself in other ways but right now a doctor cant verify celiac without villi damage. Since Celiac = villi damage anything else is considered gluten intolerance or non-celiac gluten sensitivity or whatever. There really is no "official" name for it...maybe someday after more research has been...
  20. I just don't even know what to say to that. Ummm...maybe instead of repoisoning yourself with gluten you should get a better doctor. I had my bloodtests 2 weeks after starting the diet and my biopsy 6 months after starting the diet. Neither were positive...I wasnt eating gluten. My GI doctor, who did the biopsy, was aware that I had been off gluten...
  21. I *highly* disagree with that statement (you had to know I would say that )There is plenty of evidence that shows that gluten intolerance w/out Celiac causes damage. It just doesnt cause the SAME damage as seen in Celiac. It does not cause the same villi damage but it DOES cause damage to other areas of the body. It was never proven whether I have Celiac...
  22. How was she diagnosed? It could be Celiac but it could also be intolerance. If you can tell us what tests were run it would be easier to answer the question. The treatment is the same regardless of whether she has full-blown celiac or intolerance. Gluten-free diet for life. If she carries a celiac gene she could have intolerance that hasnt yet become full...
  23. It doesnt work.
  24. I took the Great Smokies test also...I didnt have any sensitivities. This is not a good test for diagnosing gluten intolerance...just for figuring out other possible IgG sensitivities. Enterolab is a better diagnostic test since it specifically looks for anti-gliadin antibodies. Gluten Intolerance isnt an allergy so it wouldnt show up in allergy tests...
  25. I have DQ1 also. Only one copy though. I also have DQ3. Is DQ1 suppossed to be worse than DQ3...or does it matter? I'm getting the feeling DQ1 is the worst.
