  1. Hi, Just so you know eating gluten just for a few days before the test most likely wont give a positive result even if your son has Celiac. Be prepared that he could have a false negative due to already starting the diet.
  2. I'm also wondering if the drug and its effectiveness is being gauged only by determining whether villi damage is occurring or not. Since we know that gluten affects other areas of the body i.e. tissues, brain function, causes AI diseases...etc...how do we know that gluten is not still causing damage to other areas?
  3. Well said...I couldnt agree more. I'm sure celiac would become common knowledge if there was a drug that docs could prescribe but would that also affect the availability of gluten-free foods? If Celiacs could eat gluten without suffering symptoms (by taking a drug) what would happen to the gluten-free market?
  4. I used to get really bad cramps all over but mostly in my legs. They were like charlie horses I guess. I would wake up in the night in excrutiating pain from stretching or moving while I slept. The pain would subside after a couple minutes but I would be temporarily paralyzed from pain. It doesnt happen that bad anymore but I do still get pain in my hands...
  5. Yeah...DQ1 is linked to neurological problems rather than intestinal but the 2% of diagnosed celiacs that *don't* have DQ2 or DQ8 have DQ1 instead. Apparantly DQ1 can cause intestinal damage but its not nearly as common....only 2%.
  6. Cornbread, Yeah...this is what I've really been focusing my attention on lately. I have DQ1 and DQ3...hardly any gastro symptoms and they didnt show up at all until after I'd been sick for 2 years. I cant relate to the people who have to run to the bathroom after being glutened...thats only happened to me a handful of times. My symptoms are mainly neurological...
  7. Actually most doctors are not supportive of ELISA tests. There are no guarantees with the ELISA tests...they are still controversial. They do help some people but I dont think they are foolproof...and they arent helpful to everyone. I had the tests done and I cant say it helped me at all....it really didnt tell me much. I tested negative for all the foods...
  8. Kaiti, I found something to take. Its a multi vit/min supplement...not liquid though. Does it take awhile for vitamins to take effect or do they usually make a difference pretty quickly? So far, I'm not noticing a difference.
  9. I think you should speak to yor dad about this. Explain to him that even though you aren't having "obvious" symptoms..(i.e running to the bathroom or vomiting after eating gluten) you still feel as if you aren't feeling as well as you *should* be feeling. You probably do have malnutrition (caused by the gluten) and that is NOT ok. You dont want to have serious...
  10. I agree that this is the main reason for people not wanting to listen or take the advice seriously. I'm sure if the effects of gluten were well known you would see a change in peoples attitudes...they might be willing to try gluten-free if they actually *knew* what gluten was. I'm finding the vast majority of people think gluten is sugar. Also...
  11. You have to be between the ages of 18-59. He is only 16...so he doesnt qualify.
  12. Hey Stephanie, I love your new avatar! Soooo cute!
  13. Here is a link to the thread Swittenaur was referring to. Open Original Shared Link
  14. I know for sure the lip gloss is gluten-free cuz I use it...the salesperson told me all the bare escentuals make-up was gluten-free.
  15. I think both your mom and dad should be tested...period. I dont know why the doctor would be unwilling to test her. You dont have to have symptoms to have celiac but maybe this doctor is unaware of that fact.
  16. Since I went casein free I dont have the bloating nearly as bad as I did. I also notice many small meals are better than eating 2 or 3 big meals. Too much food at one time seems to be hard on my body. Starches also cause bloating for me. I only eat small portions and its a little better. Oh...I also take enzymes and I think that helps me too.
  17. I'm pretty sure the Dephi list has non-food items on it. Its always best to call and verify though. Alot of people have posted on here about innacurracies in The Gluten Free Bible so I dont know if I would trust whats written in that book.
  18. I notice that with leaky gut some days I react to just about everything so I eat really plain and simple. Once I start feeling better I can tolerate more things...till the next time I do something to irritate my gut. The main things that irritate a leaky gut are alcohol, caffeine, gluten, dairy, sugar, baking soda and powder, red meats, yeast, processed...
  19. Yeah...I love their cookies. Enjoy Life products are free of all the common allergens.

    ARCHIVED Thyroid Drs?

Any doctor can order the tests. Besides TSH you should also have Free T4 and Free T3 tested as well. Those are the three tests I always do to check my levels. Also if you do have overactive thyroid you should ask to see an endocrinologist.
  21. I have read that positive ANA doesnt always mean much...dont really know though.
  22. Having full blown celiac does not necessarily = lots of pain or symptoms. Some people with positive biopsies for celiac feel perfectly healthy and have no symptoms eating gluten while others with negative tests may be disabled by gluten. Reactions really do vary.
  23. Ooops I totally responded to the wrong topic. Dont know how I ended up on this thread. Sorry.
  24. If you cant get a straight answer from them...I wouldnt use their products. I didnt have problems with the companies I called. I dont use Mary Kay so I have no idea about them. How is your doctor suppossed to know what ingredients Mary Kay uses? That was a lame statement IMO.
