ARCHIVED Enterolab
Rachel--24 replied to danikali's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I got IgA, tTG, malabsorption, and gene testing. It was the complete panel or whatever...it also came with the milk test (casein). Last month I ordered the egg and yeast tests..they were negative. My casein test was neg. as well. Everything having to do with the gluten testing was positive. I did not have either of the main Celiac genes...I had 2 gluten sensitivity... -
ARCHIVED Vitamins..essential Or Not?
Rachel--24 replied to Rachel--24's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Yeah...I've asked them several times. My HMO sucks. My doctor didnt even know what I was talking about when I asked for Vit/min tests. They will only test b12, potassium, sodium, iron and I think magnesium. I've been tested a couple times and everything was fine except the iron which was low. Doctor wrote that I was anemic but then changed his mind or said... -
ARCHIVED Enterolab
Rachel--24 replied to danikali's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
1. It can take up to 3 weeks. I got mine back in 2 weeks. 2. Dr. Fine (from Enterolab) claims they are more sensitive...meaning where a blood test may be negative the stool test might come back positive. The stool test can be positive after months on a gluten-free diet whereas a bloodtest would most likely be negative once on a gluten-free diet. The... -
ARCHIVED Rapid Test Stick 4 Cd
Rachel--24 replied to mommida's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I wish I could do this test but I've been gluten-free for too long...otherwise I'd be first in line. It sounds cool...hope its accurate. -
ARCHIVED Vitamins..essential Or Not?
Rachel--24 replied to Rachel--24's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Wow...I get all those same symptoms off and on but I've had my blood checked for B12 deficiency a couple times and they said it was fine. Sometimes I wonder about my HMO cuz they also said I didnt have malabsorption but Enterolab results showed high malabsorption (I lost 25 lbs.) -
ARCHIVED What Should I Ask To Get Done? 11-7-05
Rachel--24 replied to a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Enterolab tests can be ordered online...you don't need a doctor to order them. You just go to the website and order the tests you would like to have done. There is lots of useful information about these tests and about gluten sensitivity on the site. Open Original Shared Link -
ARCHIVED Very Curious
Rachel--24 replied to danikali's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Enterolab results will show positive if you are gluten sensitive or have celiac. Did you order the gene test as well? That would give you a better idea if you have celiac or not. The Enterolab tests are good..it looks like you've done your homework so don't worry. Its good that you're also getting the bloodtests as well. I dont know how long you've been eating... -
ARCHIVED What Do You Think About My Baby Boy...
Rachel--24 replied to e&j0304's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
How was your baby diagnosed? I would think if tests were positive and the diet change showed a turnaround then he is undoubtedly Celiac. Thats not going to change ever...its lifelong. How will he be rechecked each year? If he is maintaining a gluten-free diet he should test negative from now on. There are lots of reasons why your mother could have tested... -
ARCHIVED Vitamins..essential Or Not?
Rachel--24 replied to Rachel--24's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
What kind of neurological symptoms were you having from the B12 deficiency? I have neurological symptoms but not really gastro symptoms other than the weight loss and occasional bloating. I mainly worry about the neurological stuff and I think it could be related to deficiencies because the symptoms coincide with when I'm not absorbing well and losing weight... -
ARCHIVED What To Take For Nausea
Rachel--24 replied to melisadki's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I dont know if theres anything you can take but I think it will pass. My first week was just like you describe as far as the nausea and not being able to eat. I would try to eat but after 1 or 2 bites I'd be gagging. It wasnt fun but it did go away. Try eating something like maybe applesauce. You are most likely going through withdrawl...gluten is very addictive... -
ARCHIVED Explaining Gf As Lifestyle Choice.
Rachel--24 replied to dogear's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Dogear, You don't have to explain to anyone why you eat gluten-free. Gluten is bad for us...period. If you were one of the smart ones who figured that out without having to suffer for years while being shuffled from doctor to doctor with no answers....well then I applaud you for that. Why wait until gluten actually does damage to your body to go gluten... -
ARCHIVED How Long Until I Would See Some Results?
Rachel--24 replied to loveday's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I will leave this question for the "Mom's"...since I have no experience there. I think however that you *know* your son better than anyone does and if the changes were due to his new diet...I think you will just know...it should be obvious. -
ARCHIVED Am I Allowed To Swear?
Rachel--24 replied to loveday's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I agree Quinoa is WAY gross. I threw it out after just a couple bites. Tinkyada pasta tastes just like real pasta to me. I don't know what Quinoa tasted like but it definately wasnt pasta. -
ARCHIVED Vitamins..essential Or Not?
Rachel--24 replied to Rachel--24's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I don't think any vitamin is as good as the real thing but hopefully it will help a little. We'll see...in the past I never noticed a difference but I wasnt taking gluten-free vitamins either. Some people say they notice a big difference if they stop taking their vitamins so they must work for some people at least. btw....I ate Sunmaid raisins today... -
ARCHIVED Still Having Diarhea But Gf
Rachel--24 replied to melisadki's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I take enzymes but just finally settled on a multivitamin. I also take probiotics. I cant tolerate lots of foods and chemicals after I'm glutened and then it will calm down. Its been almost 2 weeks now that I've been reacting to everything. -
ARCHIVED Still Having Diarhea But Gf
Rachel--24 replied to melisadki's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Oh yeah...I was wondering did you have nausea before going gluten-free? I don't remember having too much nausea until my first week of the diet...then it was bad. I think it was withdrawl..I just felt WAY worse the first week. I actually thought I was dying. I didn't mean to be going gluten-free....I was actually starting a candida diet at the time. It was... -
ARCHIVED Still Having Diarhea But Gf
Rachel--24 replied to melisadki's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I think it takes time...how long have you been gluten-free now? I'm still having occassional nausea and I'm almost 3 months gluten-free now. My stools got better after 2 months but I think that was because I eliminated dairy. I never had D though....it was just never a symptom I had. -
ARCHIVED Butter
Rachel--24 replied to christa's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Also ghee (clarified butter) might not have casein. -
ARCHIVED Vitamins..essential Or Not?
Rachel--24 posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I feel like I have deficiencies still. Sometimes I have night blindness, headaches, stiff joints and some mild aches. Little scrapes are slow to heal. Could this be related to vit/mineral deficiencies? I also have leaky gut. I havent been taking vitamins because I was looking for a good brand that I wasnt scared to try. I finally picked one and started taking... -
ARCHIVED Explaining Gf As Lifestyle Choice.
Rachel--24 replied to dogear's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I agree....who cares?? Let people eat what they want and for whatever reason they want. Sheeesh. Nobodys gonna tell me where to live, what car to drive, or what clothes to buy and they certainly arent gonna tell me what to eat. I work at a grocery store and people buy groceries...I would never think to wonder why a person was buying a certain food. If... -

ARCHIVED Mysteriously Glutened By Amy's Kitchen?
Rachel--24 replied to a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Stephanie, I'm pretty sure you're right about the condiments...those are Annie's. I saw a whole line of new Pamela's cookies in Whole Foods...I remember looking at all of them and realizing I couldnt have any of them. -
ARCHIVED Makeup
Rachel--24 replied to christa's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Estee Lauder and most of these companies I believe do have some products which arent gluten-free...its always best to call and verify. From what I understand alot of the info in The Gluten Free Bible isn't accurate so again...its always best to double check. -
ARCHIVED Mysteriously Glutened By Amy's Kitchen?
Rachel--24 replied to a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Are you sure Pamela's are made in a dedicated facility because she does sell cookies that are NOT gluten-free as well as the gluten-free cookies?? -
Yes, you should be concerned about any product containing gluten that can possibly get into your mouth. Lotion, shampoo, cosmetics (if you're female)...these all can easily get into your mouth. Toothpaste, mouthwash and lipstick all should be gluten-free. The only toothpaste (that I know of) that *isn't* ok is Sensodyne. Also don't lick envelopes or stamps...
