  8. Carla--What if the biopsy comes back negative--then what? Many times a biopsy will come back negative--you can be gluten intolerant and not have severe damage as of yet and what if the area they tests doesnt show damage yet, but there is damage in an untouched area---myself, I dont need a biopsy to know i must be gluten-free--its a personnel choice--I'm...
  9. love that answer tarnalberry-- just love it--the grin, especially---i tell people that gluten is not life threatening to me, but in time is deadly--i tell them the cancer scare part of celiacs and that sometimes is enough for them--sometimes i just stomp my foot and say, "I cant have it and that's it!" ---when my sis goes to a restuarant, she will tell...
  10. this post was sent to us by accident i think--it belongs here--its from kimberly--kim, be sure to click on reply at the bottom--not report--ok Hello.. I have a lot of the same problems that you are experiencing. I stay dizzy about 50% of the day and my liver enzymes are always elevated. It seems to get worse if I eat something that I shouldn't. I was...
  11. yup--i cant tolerate soy milk, soy flour, tuna in water that is soy based, mayo--i guess for now i consider myself soy limited--lecithin doesnt seem to bother me and i can use oil, whcih sometimes has soy in it--i guess it has something to do with the heating process that cooks the protein out of the soy then--anyways--no soy milk for me--if you are dairy...
  12. hi rob--so many questions and you will get just as many answers here----diarrhea is different for many--some had it all the time, some had it sometimes and some never did--as for going gluten-free and the speed at which we heal--that is different for everybody too--many feel a change right away, they feel less bubbly inside, a calm so to speak--depending...
  13. otay--we are all right---the list cant be trusted 100% but they are a very good base to start with and they do list companies that have bothered to reply--nothing is a 100% for we celiacs--BUT, many people have put a lot of time and effort into making these lists and they are here for us--i always look to the list for answers and then i do a follow up of...
  14. tarnalberry is right--no more oats for your daughter---even before i knew i was celiac, i never could tolerate oats well--it is strange--oatmeal cereal for breakfast never seemed to cause a problem for me, but meatloaf with oatmeal in it--or apple crisp with oatmeal topping--anything like that was a problem---it is very likely that the rash is from oatmeal...
  15. there are as many food lists out there as there are forums-- you can go to www.clanthompson.com and view their list---i have a very good list from www.napervillegi.com/celiac --it is from the wheaton celiac support group of chicago--there is the delphi forums---type in gluten free food lists in google and see what you find----and as always--when in doubt...
  16. dont give up akcandle--dont ever give up-- if anything we celiacs have learned, its we cant give up--this disease is still very new to the doctors --it's been around for years and years, but is just finally being diagnosed as it should be---i truly think that these forums are finding more celiacs then doctors do --we are the reason that so many go to the...
  17. i wanted to let everyone know about christmas with my kids --i fixed the meal sunday at my son, jeremy's--we had cornbread stuffing, turkey, ham, mashed potatoes, yams, corn, and 2 gluten items--green bean cassorole and rolls----jeremy used to say to his brothers and sister-- mom is just being stupid (at the time, i had MOM printed on top of my butter dish...
  18. morning deb--i dont know if i can help here or not--i can tell you about me---i dont eat beef--the red meat is just too hard for me to digest--i stick to chicken, fish, white pork, and i do occasionally eat a hamburger--i cant add much fiber to my diet, it does tend to constipate me--my sister always adds flax meal to muffins and it is just too harsh for...
  19. sterndogg--sorry, but just because you didnt get any physical symptom from drinking the beer, it is still in there causing damage to you internally--i had a week long accident with barley in a corn cake and it didnt make me physically ill, but it was causing damage, you can be sure of that-- we cannot have beer--please take care of yourself-- deb
  20. such a wonderful tradition--we never had an advent calendar, but i would stick some little thing in my kid's stockings everyday and they loved that--my kids are all in their own homes now--well, my daughter lives with her dad and she is so disappointed, she cant find her stocking--i knitted them stockings and embroidered their names on them when they were...
  21. its hard to tell what that means without feeling how she means i guess--it could mean there is something else wrong or it could be that she is having a reaction to some other food intolerance--my soy intolerance reacted differently then my wheat does--i would just keep an eye on her now and occasionally ask her if it is still happening deb
  22. popcorn doesnt bother me at all, but it used to--weird huh--now like karen--my dad cant have popcorn because of the hulls, he has diverticulitus along with celiacs---now today, i made cornbread and i knew i used to have corn flour and i couldnt find it, now i know why--my tummy has so much pressure in it right now--i bet i threw out the corn flour--the cornbread...
  23. we alll need to remember that you can be gluten intolerant and not be celiac yet--if you stay on the path of destruction that gluten causes, then eventually you will have celiac disease--we dont all have celiacs, some caught it before it got to that level and they are the lucky ones like tarnalberry--i wish i would not have been so sick before i found out...
  24. sorry to hear this mel--hope you start feeling better soon--i do believe you are on the right track, its just your body is in such bad shape that it will take a while to get it back to feeling better--i think you will see improvement soon--feel better sweetie deb
  25. FreyUSA--i wouldnt trust it---my sister tells me that if it says malt--dont eat it--she is a celiac and a dietician--your discription states the starch may be from wheat, rice, barley, or other grains--that in itself would make me say---nope, cant have this--it's up to you, but i wouldnt touch it-- deb
