  1. give your body time caitlin--it needs time to get to feeling better--the poisons are still leaving your body--some people feel great in only 3 weeks, some it takes much longer--just keep your chin up and stay gluten-free--its the best thing for you--deb
  2. yup--tiffany is so correct--i would like to add one more thing--gluten free is hard enough and she is correct--people dont want to understand--we always hear--just one bite wont hurt--come on, one time----well, it does hurt and sometimes its almost unbearable the pain we feel---then when you add other intolerances to this formula--like soy and dairy--it gets...
  3. terri, terri, terri----i guess you learned an important lesson huh i think we all do that--i can honestly say i have never glutened myself on purpose--i was so sick before gluten free that i was never tempted to cheat---------and yes--the panic attack is normal, at least for some of us celiacs--some of us are more prone to panic and anytime i get glutened...
  4. barb--in the beginning when i was first going gluten-free, i had this kind of pain too--i would even have the pain in dreams and wake crying from the pain--it did get better until i developed an intolerance to soy--when i get too much soy in my system now, the same pain returns and with a vengence--so maybe you are dealing with an intolerance that you havent...
  5. connie--if my memory serves me--many type 1 diabetics also have celiacs, but most celiacs who go gluten-free and stick to the diet can most times not develop type 2 diabetes--i think anyways--you may want to read more about this--google it and see what you find--celiacs + type 2 diabetes--i do know that kids of type 2 diabetics are more prone to the disease...
  6. well--if i were you i would go completely gluten free--if you already are feeling better then it must be helping--the diarrhea may take a while to completely go away and you do have to make sure you are removing all gluten from your diet--there is no almost gluten-free with celiac or gluten intoleranall the way or nothing--otay--feel better---deb
  7. when i buy cottage cheese i look for modified cornstarch or food starch--if it says corn, then i buy it--if it says food starch, then i dont------i am having a hard time finding a cottage cheese on long island that is good--wish there was a kroger store here --but i wont give up the island for cottage cheese deb
  8. hi minibabe--where are you at--i found a support group here in suffolk county--they meet on higbie st on the 1st tuesday of every month--between montauk hwy and sunrise hwy--they are a very nice group of people--very friendly--if you would like more info--just email me at my aol addy--otay----i just moved to the island 3 weeks ago tomorrow--i love it here...
  9. i agree with judy--there is so much out there that we can have--i too fall into that trap of fretting over what i cant have, but all i need do is remember how sick i was and i snap out of it---and muffin i was in that overweight group--well, i still am somewhat--i am in much better shape now--i have lost 60# over the last 3 1/2 years--i never could understand...
  10. i think a whole bunch of us should send emails to the daily talk shows like oprah and montel and request they do a show on celiacs--if there seems to be a lot of interest, then they may just do one--that would be so good for the general public to see--dont you think? deb
  11. well--i got a new job and the 1st week there all of my new co-workers had colds, so, you guessed it --i got it this week--i went to CVS and i bought their maximun strength 12 hour decongestant and their 12 hour nasal spray--i know that body aches come with colds--but the worst of my body aches came after the worse of the cold symptoms were over with--everything...
  12. i wouldnt eat gluten if i was you, but that is up to you--your doctor is wrong though---40 is not too early to have celiacs--celiacs knows no age level--babies are born with celiacs, you are born with the gene for celiacs and it can be triggered at any point inyour life--read all the post in here and you will find lots of useful info--deb
  13. yup--that's just one of the symptoms of celiacs, at least many of us have this problem---lotions that are gluten free of course and drink lots of water--just about all we can do--i always put lotion on after my shower and sometimes during the day if needed---my hands are the worst, they crack and bleed sometimes, especially in winter deb
  14. it's always good to see the glass as half full and not half empty--i would rather not have celiacs, but i do and there is nothing i can do about it and i am so glad that i know what is wrong with me and can take care of myself so as not to be sick all the time deb
  15. i think it's a wonderful idea --could you open one here on Long Island in the Islip area --lots of us celiacs here --Denver is a bit of a drive for us deb

  17. sue---you can call ahead and try to find out if there are things you can have on the plane, i dont know if you will find out anything--you can also pack yourself some things to eat while on the plane--if it's not a long flight, you will be fine anyways---take fruit along to eat--you could stir up some tuna or something and have it in a small lunch type cooler...
  18. morning bob---all of those symptoms can be associated with celiac--even the panic attacks---i have been gluten-free for 3 1/2 yrs now and i find when i have sleepless nights now and joint pain, it's because i have gotten some soy in my system--i am now soy limited too--no mayo, no soy flour, no MSG (which is soy protein)be very careful of tuna in water, the...
  19. well, we celiacs are not allergic to wheat, rye, barley, or oats--we are intolerant--there is a difference--celiacs is not an allergy--with an allergy, in a severe reaction, your breathing is effected, sometimes to the point that you cant breathe--that doesnt happen with intolerances--our bodies cannot tolerate these grains and our bodies fight the grains...
  20. you are so very blessed missingmybread---my sister and i both had difficult pregnancies--she lost her first baby at fullterm, her 2nd was born 6 wks early, the 3rd was 4 wks early-----my 1st was a normal pregnancy, but the other 4 were all difficult--i was sick most nights--the last 2 were the worst--and my last baby, my daughter, was born with a dislocated...
  21. it shouldnt--i worked at speedway and their hot cocoa didnt--i read it to be sure, ubt i never drank it--i dont like hot cocoa much--sorry-----deb
  22. i can help there too---tomatoes are a vegetable, but also considered a fruit--they are acid as are so many of the fruits--there is acid in many of the citrus fruits--so therefore, you could classify them in the same way now--did that make sense, i'm not sure it does to me deb
  23. i just went to a celiac support group meeting here in suffolk county and we were each given one of these toaster bags--they are very heavy--have no holes in them and others there said that they work very well--i dont know i threw my toaster out a long time ago deb
  24. i love your name kaiti--it's no one's business but yours and i agree with you, i like bush too, so much better then the alternative, we bush fans stick together --may not have anything to do with celiacs, but neither does darlindeb or lovegrov--this is a free country--you can have any name you want and any opinion too--keep your name and keep posting--dont...
  25. think i did read somewhere that more women have celiacs then men, but that may only be because more women will go to the doctor then men ---as for the gene--i never heard that one--i dont think it matters who carries the gene--while reading this forum--i dont think celiacs is picky about who it takes--men, women, teens, elderly, babies, toddlers--not choosy...
