ARCHIVED New Diagnosed Celiac, What To Do?
lorka150 replied to nogluten77's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
in addition to rinne's response (eating a basic diet), i've found that the few things that i do need to read labels on, i stick to. for example, i eat a whole foods vegetarian diet, and i know which shampoo, make up, soymilk and baking suplpies that i use without a problem. it saves me from always checking new things out. good luck! welcome to the... -

LA, that sounds awesome! By the way, I LOVE Brooklin... What a great area! (Sorry to throw that in). Since you are in Canada, I used Webber Vitamin E (I got it at Shoppers)

lorka150 replied to a topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'm also a mid-twenty something, and trust me (and all of us!) it's not a horrible disease because finally you'll start feeling good! Welcome to the board. -
Hey LA, I posted a similar question back in April when I got my tattoo (what are you getting, if you don't mind me asking??) Anyway, the balm they recommended had wheat in it, so I didn't get it (I'm notorious for putting my hands constantly in my mouth because I am always baking or eating... haha, so I never, ever use creams and what not.) Anyway, I used...

ARCHIVED My Daughter May Be Allergic To Rice
lorka150 replied to AndreaB's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Hi Andrea, I was very sensitive to rice, and now can tolerate small amounts of rice flour and rice vinegar. I'm not six, but, learned to adapt without it. For awhile it was frustrating, especially when I was sit and wanted something mushy I would perhaps not feed it to her for a bit and see if there is improvement. I found out about it because... -
i second the casein sensitivity. i am also casein sensitive, and when i cut it out, it helped so much. however, i would also like to suggest that if you are sick of being sick, then perhaps not eating out or buying pre-made products would help. i kept getting contaminated left and right, and finally, once i stopped taking risks, felt better, and realized...

ARCHIVED Bread Machine, Yeast Question
lorka150 replied to debmidge's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
this might not exactly answer your question, but when i do bread in the bread machine, i always do all the ingredients before i put them in the machine, instead of following the machine's directions. -
i follow a closely related vegan diet (the only non-vegan food i use it honey, and sometimes egg whites in baking and actually find it easier that anything else with eating. because i eat a whole foods diet, i never worry about cross contamination. regarding eating out, i cannot answer your question as every time i have, i have gotten cross contaminated...

ARCHIVED L-glutamine Powder
lorka150 replied to Gentleheart's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
this has been discussed before, but just so you know, when i started taking it, my liver enzymes shot from nearly normal up to 800 and i was hospitalized. when i went off it, they immediately went down (not to normal, but to about 150). there was definitely a correlation. (below 40 is normal). -
Hi there, I think I understand what you mean. before I was gluten free, I felt sort of just 'bad' all the time... But I thought it was normal. When I went gluten-free, I noticed a large change. Now when I accidently consume it, it is VERY noticable. Hope that (slightly) helps. And welcome!

ARCHIVED I Cant Stand Up
lorka150 replied to Lister's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
lister- flax seeds are available in a variety of ways, but unless you have a grinder, make sure you get flax meal. or ground flax seeds. bob's red mill makes the one that i peraonlly buy. what about nature's path mesa sunrise? since you like gorilla munch (same company), perhaps you can mix the two for a healthier fix... i do that but with panda puffs. eggs... -
ARCHIVED I Cant Stand Up
lorka150 replied to Lister's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
lister, why not focus on whole foods for awhile (IE not more than the ingredient being itself). instead of noodles, and stuff like that. you NEED nutrients! hardboiling eggs is easy. do you have a pot and a burner? that's all you need... pop the eggs in and boil for about 9 minutes. you can also do a lot of things with tofu. lentils are a legume... -

okay, breakfast, nix the chips. add some more vegetables. instead of the cookie, why not have some nut butter on the apple? or applesauce with some flax mixed in? instead of the rice cake (no nutritional value), how about a hard boiled egg? for your sandwich, you eat chicken... or tuna? you can add that. -

lorka150 replied to Lister's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
lister - why don't you buy nuts in the shell? they will for sure be gluten-free, in that case. do you want some daily menu ideas? perhaps that will help you... you can organize yourself that way, and then if you're in a rush, you'll already be ready. -
