  1. I started out by cutting gluten. My follow up labs show that I have done a great job of staying compliant with my gluten-free diet. My other marker shows that my immune system/tissues are still reacting. I'm absent IGA so it could take longer for these numbers to decrease. I have noticed on my own that when I eat ice cream (evening habit), and drink...
  2. My orthodontist looked into my invisalign trays and informed me there is nothing gluten related for me to worry about. I called ahead of my follow up appointment with this question and when I arrived he told me he researched my question and that everything checked out. Here's the disclosure, I'm choosing to trust him on this. I trust that he actually...
  3. I don't have an answer but I do have a suggestion for you to investigate and see if it's right for you… 1. Gluten Free 2. Alcohol Free 3. Casein Free The first two are absolutes in my mind. As for the casein, this is meat and dairy. Give yourself a month or two and if you find symptom relief consider adding your meat back. If symptoms return, ...
  4. I HIGHLY recommend getting on Amazon and ordering "Gluten Free Grocery Shopping Guide" 2012-13 edition by Matison & Matison. It is the most comprehensive guide for everything you can imagine buy item and brand that you will run into in a grocery store. Mayo Clinic dietitians recommended it to me and I have used it since. I would not worry too much...
  5. I have had two endoscopies and one colonoscopy. The pre surgery fast is the worst part of it in my opinion. Make sure you have a ride home. They put me under for my procedure. Some people do, some don't. As for the holidays, don't dread it. Embrace it. Buy a bread maker with a gluten free setting and you can make every bread you can imagine. Find...
  6. Welcome to the board! Sounds like quite a road you have traveled. This has been a real helpful place for me and wrote my thank you earlier this month, actually. Way to take control of your health!
  7. All Flavors of HUNTS tomato products are gluten free. I would encourage you to order the; Gluten-Free Grocery Shopping Guide 2012/2013 Edition Matison&Matison I use this to cross reference all of my grocery purchases. Almost everything that I can have in a grocery store will be listed by product and brand in this guide. Very useful...
  8. I caught a small cold and have been using Ricola cough drops and drinking Tazo Calm tea. I looked up the cough drops at 2 in the morning on the internet on my phone and they seemed safe enough. Not so. Like a moron, I waited a solid two days to cross reference them in my gluten free shopping guide 2012/2013 edition by Matison and Matison that was recommended...
  9. It keeps getting better as you learn how much is still available to you in a gluten free form. I still eat most of my favorite dishes but with gluten-free substitutes. I still eat spaghetti, the noodles are derived from rice or corn now... I still eat cookies. I buy the gluten-free mix. As for cheating. Thats pretty much non-negotiable. If you...
  10. Hi! Welcome. This forum is fantastic. You are in the right place. Congratulations on finally getting an answer to your medical questions. I recommend the following resources: 1. Gluten-Free Grocery Shopping Guide 2012/2013 Edition Matison & Matison. Its a small 500 page shoppers guide of all the foods/brands that you CAN have. When in doubt...
  11. So we all know that we are being tracked by our cellphones by now, right? Well, I went to check some college football scores on an iPhone app and there was an advertisement at the bottom that read "Depressed?" Ticked me off. I do a google search about pain in my feet and now my phone is making assumptions. Yeah, well, I deleted your app. Maybe the...
  12. Que the music, maestro... "Ya had a bad day". All you can do is the best you can. I'm sure your coworkers don't think you're crazy, just sensitive :-) If it makes you feel any better I had an annual review last year in the midst of getting my diagnosis. I am a pretty outgoing 33 year old male who works in sales. I sit down to do this review with my...
  13. I would want an immunoglobulin panel to know what they are doing. She could be absent IGA. If the IGG and IGA celiac markers do not come back positive and you are convinced that gluten-free makes a difference, keep her gluten-free and see how it goes. As for your pediatrician, on one hand its easy to be upset that they are not ordering an endoscopy but...
  14. Colleen makes some great points. There are some varying schools of thought out there but unless you are ingesting the gluten--you should be fine. The only thing I would add is that sometimes physicians will order a TTG or deamidated gliadin to ensure compliance to the diet. If your markers are up, it most likely could mean that gluten is sneaking into...
  15. Koliver, Welcome to the board. I won't make any assumptions about how much you had to drink with your friends but that could be part of your brain fog :-) Seriously though, your concerns are legit. I cannot tell you for sure that you are are celiac or not without labs and a biopsy. Even though you are eating iron rich foods, you could very well...
  16. He is on twitter. Seems like a decent enough fellow. College, football, the outdoors. He is always tweeting about hunting and fishing. Anyhow, when you see him on TV his arms are HUGE. It inspires me to drop the excuses and do a better job of weight training. My bones could use the weight bearing exercise anyhow.
  17. I am sure many of you already heard this. West Virginia University starting QB Clint Trickett apparently has Celiac Disease. I found it really motivational that he is out there competing at the Division I collegiate level on Saturday's at my alma mater. Apparently, he was diagnosed during his first or second year at Florida State. He was working out...
  18. My blood serum results came back spot on. My deamidated gliadin plummeted from 83 last time to 15! My GFR, blood calcium, potassium, creat, etc., were perfect. I'm going to stick with some of my halftime adjustments to diet and keep plowing forward.
  19. I guess I am curious if anyone else had experience with proteinuria and increased creatinine clearance levels. Both numbers were high for me on the 24 hour urine test. I do have a high protein diet and that week I did go on two endurance bicycle rides (relative to me) for the first time in quite awhile. I've also been highly stressed from work. From what...
  20. Apparently my creatinine clearance is sky high and my proteinuria is high. I don't have the numbers yet. My doc is still waiting on my blood work. My blood work was completely clean sans my deamidated gliadin as recently as January of this year so I don't my blood work is going to reveal a whole lot. I was referred to a urologist last year and did...

    ARCHIVED Thank You

Thanks for the support and well wishes. Trust me, I'm still trying to shake some aches and pains but am working on it. I get strength from you all, my family, my girlfriend, and my church family/daily devotions. I have been consuming too many sugary carbonated drinks, and then throw on top of that coffee with sweetened creamer and then the occasional adult...

  23. Its now entertaining to me that "others" think they are somehow eating better food than I am. Not true. You had a combo from Wendy's on the way home from work? You're right, I'm missing out.... Or not...
  24. myfitnesspal I think its free and its really easy to use. I used this app early in my diagnosis to set a weight goal and a caloric intake goal to correspond. You can track your food, your weight, your various nutrients per day, week, month, and track calories burned per exercise so you know how to adjust your intake depending on your goal. Check...
  25. Good looking out. If you're having drinks, I wouldn't be ordering beer either...
