ARCHIVED How On Earth Can I Gain Some Weight?
eers03 replied to no7ang's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Irish- Great points regarding calories, many of which, I do adhere to contrary to how my last post may have sounded. I should clarify, that often, much of what I have read and seen in news and on tv seems to paint carbs with the same bad brush. Eat lean, eat natural, etc... I used to stick with lean meats and veggies coupled with an active/running... -
ARCHIVED How On Earth Can I Gain Some Weight?
eers03 replied to no7ang's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I think this facet of being Celiac is really tough for us guys for the stereotypical reasons. All I've ever heard is "must be great to have a fast metabolism, how do you stay so skinny, you are so thin, you look like a runner", etc.. Turns out I'm Celiac. I have a previous post in this thread that details some things that helped my pack on a few lbs... -
ARCHIVED "are You Still On That Bogus Diet?"
eers03 replied to eers03's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
You can't bro me if you don't me.... HA! Just messing... Save that one for a rainy day--you're welcome! I have to say I've never received comments about my complexion because people must be so enamored by my shiny shaved head. Hey, I'm with you, I can be quite forgiving when there is gluten free beer involved. With a couple gluten-free beverages I... -
ARCHIVED Facial Weight Loss
eers03 replied to Macmuireadhaigh's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I just posted this response to someone else having similar issues in a different forum on this site... I hope it helps! The good news is, this is to be expected and its not rare for this to happen. You are not alone! I did the same thing when diagnosed in October. I'm a 5'11 male that weighed 137 and currently check in at 170. So... You are doing... -
Try this out... I was at a work lunch with a coworker, my manager, and our regional director. My manager, who is aware of my dietary needs, picks a venue where I cannot eat. (Whatever, I brought my own) When everyone orders, I told the waitress that I would not be eating. When everyones food comes out, I bust out a Gluten Free GoPicnic. Essentially a...

Freaking right, I have the same problem!!! I have never been a marathon runner but pre-diagnosis last summer I would put in 6 miles per day 4 times per week and at some point take my hybrid trek out for a 26 miler. My workouts are partly how I figured out I'm celiac because I wasn't recovering the way I should from a workout. I, like you, have opted...

Depression? Me? Never... (sarcasm) I like to say I'm moody. :-) I probably have more ups and downs than the average person and they come and go without rhyme or reason. For a time it was all just down though. Someone close to me said the following and it snapped me back to better days... "I feel so sorry for you that because you don't know what...

ARCHIVED Wow! This Article Scares Me About Gfd... Anyone Else!
eers03 replied to a84c72's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I saw the title and chose not to read it... Be careful little eyes what you see :-) I completely respect your choice to be well informed. As for an article with this title, I'm going with the ignorance is bliss approach! See you when we crack 100 years of age! -
You handled it well. Go online and check out the "go picnic" pre packaged gluten free meals. They are about 400 calories give or take and are perfect in a pinch. I was out motorcycling yesterday and took one with me to munch on for lunch. They are really tasty and usually contain some type of gluten-free chip/cracker and spread, a mixed nut/dried fruit...

Someone asked me that at church the other day. I'm Celiac. I was so ticked at the comment that I had to "Bro" the guy up... My response... "Bro, I will be on this diet the rest of my life. What I have, doesn't just go away. My diet is not a 90 day script from a nurse practitioner at a doc in the box clinic." Anyway, I know I'm not the first to...

ARCHIVED Anyone Having Problems At Work?
eers03 replied to jhol's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Yes but it's not gluten related. In fact, I don't know which is better for my health, my manager or wheat bread. Ha! -
ARCHIVED I'm Getting Fat
eers03 replied to designerstubble's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
High carb and high sugar will absolutely do it. How is it affecting your running? How often and how far are you running? Is it stressing your joints? Are you feeling more winded? If you can run, I would do it as often as possible and try to increase how far you are running, don't worry about how fast you are doing it. Also, run on an empty-ish stomach... -

eers03 replied to tka's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
That can be your B complex vitamins, yes. I don't know your current weight but if you are on the lighter side, it may behoove you to increase your calorie intake. Sounds strange, I know. I have had some peculiar sensations myself when I was incredibly underweight for my height. As my weight restored, the sensations subsided. Also, don't become too... -

I enjoyed reading this very much. I have intermittently had some issues with this as well and my eyes "appear" fine to my optometrist. Good to see it can work its way out.- 50 replies

ARCHIVED Help With Gerd/acid Reflux
eers03 replied to kvanrens1's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Too much soda? Regular orange juice in the morning instead of "low acid"? Too much acidic fruit during the course of a day with other irritating foods? Spices? Also, is she able to drink dairy products? If she is, and it doesn't affect her adversely, having a small glass of milk occasionally with meals CAN help reduce the affects of spicier foods. Also... -

ARCHIVED Exhaustion Worse After gluten-free
eers03 replied to moosemalibu's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
You need more calories. If you are strength training and only consuming 1400-1600 calories, that is most likely not adequate. If you are Celiac, you are not absorbing everything you need from a nutrient perspective already, then you burn the rest up on exercise... Additionally, have you drastically reduced your carb intake? Hopefully not if you are active... -
ARCHIVED New To Celiacs And Having A Hard Time
eers03 replied to Ajapeu's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Ajapeu, I became depressed as hell! I also isolated myself without even knowing it. I also made a lot of assumptions about what loved ones and friends must be thinking about me when we are in eating scenarios. Learn from my mistakes... My friends still loved me and it was selfish of me to not hang out with them as much because of a diet. I also... -
ARCHIVED Asymptomatic Celiac Disease?
eers03 replied to Veghead1234's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I am considered atypical (non-symptomatic) celiac. It took years for mine to show itself. I could eat a pizza and not double over in pain or spend my evening in the bathroom. I am very active. I noticed my body not recovering from workouts as quickly, I stayed ridiculously thin for a guy that is 5'11. My stools were a little on the looser side but nothing... -
ARCHIVED Lower Back Heat Sensation
eers03 replied to wilderdaniel's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I have had the heat sensation you are describing. It was quite uncomfortable and rather disturbing to me. It was early in my diagnosis. It also went away. When this happens, DO NOT stand around in the shower with really hot water running down your back and be sure to pat it dry but do not rub across it with your towel. Don't massage it, don't scratch... -
ARCHIVED Newly Dx - Reading And Learning A Lot
eers03 replied to moosemalibu's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Welcome to the board! When it comes to baking a gluten free cake, I choose not to reinvent the wheel. I will buy a chocolate gluten free cake mix and just follow the instructions. They turn out really great. I do the same with the icing. The pre-made icing doesn't spread very well so buy the mix, follow the instructions and whip it up. Delish. -
It is a great site. They need a link to this forum, though! The people on here are amazing.
