  1. Hey guys, How did you discover you are intolerant to soy? Was it allergy testing or trial and error? Also, what other symptoms do you get?
  2. Thanks for posting about Leaky Gut Syndrome, Kim. I have a couple of questions for those who know about it. 1. In addition to having celiac disease, I recently found out I have an intolerance to soy. Does that mean I have a leaky gut? 2. How can a leaky gut be repaired? Does following a strict diet repair leaky gut?\ Thanks for your help...
  3. Hi everyone, I need to go on birth control due to painful menstrual cramps and endometriosis and was wondering if any of you have had success with a certain prescription. I read another thread about birth control and it sounds like Yasmin is gluten-free. Are there any others you have tried? Thanks.
  4. Hey Judy, Sorry to hear you're feeling lousy. I recently had a "gluten reaction" as well and found that the food journal helped me. I am new to celiac disease and have a hard time with dairy. Could that maybe be the culprit for you? I'm not sure whether you've had celiac disease for a while, but it takes some time to work dairy back into your diet...
  5. Thanks guys. I'm going to try the Amoxicilin. It was on two gluten-free websites, so I'll take my chances. You're right, it is super frustrating. I try to be soooo careful and it's disconcerting to be told that there are no guarantees. Great question, Idahogirl. Will the new labeling laws affect prescriptions and OTC medicines?
  6. Hi, I have to take an antibiotic and called 2 companies to see if their drug contains gluten. Both representatives' repsonse was "No starch is used in the product". I am new to celiac disease and don't really understand what that means. Neither company could completely vouch that their product is completely gluten free because of outside sources. This...
  7. Hey all, I noticed that someone posted about product labeling. Is it true that as of January 2006 all products without gluten will be labeled "gluten free"? I"m still kinda new to this so that's why I haven't heard of it. That would totally rock if it's true. I will keep my fingers crossed.
  8. Thanks, Jerseyangel. I see my doctor on Wednesday and will call around to some nasal spray drug companies tomorrow. I'll let you guys know what I find out.
  9. I'm not sure if this is helpful to you or not, but in the Clan Thompson books it says that Butterball fresh and frozen turkeys are gluten-free. Don't use the gravy packet that comes with the frozen turkeys. It was verified on 1/18/04. I know that's a bit outdated. I ate a Butterball turkey 3 weeks ago and did not have a reaction.
  10. Thanks Kevsmom. Great resource!
  11. Thanks for the feedback guys. It stinks that we have to be worried about nasal spray as well . This is probably a dumb question, but the saline sprays some people mentioned, are they for allergies? It sounds like they're over the counter? I guess I'm supposed to use mine each day for allergies and to prevent sinus infections. Is that why you guys use...
  12. Right on, Erik! I'm new to the board as well and would also like to say thank you. It's nice to be in contact with fellow celiacs who truly understand what I am going through. Thanks for all the advice and encouragement! I hope someday I can offer you guys some advice as well
  13. Brain fog to me feels very much the way Ian M described it. I feel as if I'm in a different zone, or in a bubble. People talk to me and I don't hear them. I also can't concentrate when I have brain fog.
  14. I have had terrible stomach cramps and nausea all week. I just started using it last Tuesday and within 2 days or so I felt awful. It feels like a gluten reaction. I went on a few websites to verify whether Nasonex is gluten free and one website claims it is (as of 2004), two did not list it, and the Clan Thompson books say that it can't be guaranteed...
  15. Hi, I need to take a nasal spray for allergies and was wondering if you have used any without getting glutened. I used Nasonex recently and believe I had a reaction. What do you use and do you know for sure that it's gluten-free? Thanks, Jen
  16. Are all Carl Buddig and Hillshire Farm prepackaged meats gluten-free? Is it written on the package? I am looking for some sliced ham to eat. Thanks, Jen
  17. Thanks for the feedback. So, it sounds like allergies to eggs are the only reason to rule out the flu shot. I work with kids and I'm constantly getting all their colds. Plus, being new to the gluten-free scene, I"m having a hard time differentiating between the flu and getting glutened. I'm hoping the flu shot will keep me healthy. Thanks again, Jen
  18. Great, thanks Richard. Jen
  19. Thanks Shirley. Does anyone know about the flu shot in the U.S.?
  20. I take a multivitamin by Natures Made and Caltrate for calcium. They're both gluten-free. I was getting massive brain fog and was constantly exhausted. I'm new to celiac disease, so that could be part of it, but the vitamins have helped me a lot. Jen
  21. Hi, I'd like to get the flu shot and was wondering if anyone knows whether it's gluten-free? I would think it would be safe because it's not ingested, but I'm not sure. Anyone had the flu shot yet this year? Thanks, Jen
  22. Thanks for all your replies! Jenvan, I think I'm going to start keeping my food journal again. I was doing great for a while, and then BAM, I started getting stomach symptoms again. I bet you're right-there's been a leak. I've been super careful about checking what I eat, but today I noticed that the wraps I've been eating for lunch seem to affect me...
  23. Hey Puckster, I've been dealing with similar emotions and I've been gluten free for 2 months as well. For me, I feel like I've lost a part of myself through this process and think I become angry knowing I can't eat all the foods I used to eat. I definitely become moody when I accidently eat gluten, but I think my anger stems more from knowing I can't...
  24. Hi everyone, I'm still fairly new to celiac disease and was hoping I could ask you guys a question. I was diagnosed in August and have been eating gluten-free since then. I've been extremely careful about what I eat and I'm fairly sure I have rid my diet of gluten. Over the past 3 months I seem to have "waves" of symptoms. Some days I feel great and...
  25. Hi everyone, My doctor prescribed me Zofran, made by Glaxo, and I was wondering if anyone else has taken it. I did some reading in the Clan Thompson books and found out that it's not a guaranteed gluten-free drug because of outside ingredients. What has been your experience? Thanks, Jen
