I would think that should there be any cross contamination from the barrels that it is less that the 200pps. [edit] Accuracy of "gluten-free" labels

I can't find any source for this, but I can't image this (wine containing gluten) to be accurate. Otherwise, there would have been screaming from all the support and lobby organizations for Celiac Awareness even without the lack of labeling laws that pertain to wine industry.

  2. Hi everyone!

I'm a new member. I live in Switzerland, which is a wine producing country and where drinking wine is part of the culture. I was having the usual horrible celiac reactions after drinking wine and couldn't understand the reason why until a friend told me that wheat is used in wine-processing!

Couldn't believe it, so looked it up on the net and, guess what, wheat fibres are used in the clarifying process! Asked a wine rep and he confirmed this - sometimes egg white is used, sometimes izingglass and sometimes WHEAT!

    So, bye-bye wine!

    Best wishes

    meelaf

Would you please site your references for your conclusion. I have never heard of this.

Perhaps, it's the sulfites in the wine that you are reacting to. All wines contain sulfites with the exception of some US organic wines that do not add sulfites.

    Unless you're drinking this:

  3. I was just curious, how does one become a moderator. I am fairly new here and am learning so much. Thank you all for a job well done!

You have to pass a 346 page entrance exam, to include an IQ test. You have to possess the ability to tell someone that they are acting like a jerk in the most diplomatic of ways. You have to clear the Board of SPAM, even though you want to order every item for yourself. (I already have a closet full of Nike shoes). Yeah, well, that's about it. :o:P:lol:

SERIOUSLY, we welcome all those who would like to help this community run smoothly and devote some time to give back. Anyone interested in a moderation position, please contact Scott Adams (admin) our host. :) Volunteers (victims ;) ) are always welcome.

  4. I received a 33% warn because I pointed out the "inappropriate" behavior of one of the moderators here.

So far on this thread the moderators have kept hidden the other effects of your "warning". The warning levels probably go by thirds. With a "33% warn", my namesake can respond to posts and initiate threads, but when I initiate a thread, the "Views" reference in the index header always shows "0" regardless of how many people have viewed it.

The "warn" levels mean things which the mods are remaining silent about. And, the warn level associated with a poster means that you won't get a fair break from mods who aren't irrational.

I recommend that anyone with a "warn" level abandon your user name, and register a new one. Why would you do otherwise? I'm done with this one.

    ..

A warning is issued due to a violation of the Board Rules. The Board Rules are simple and few. An individual poster can view his/her own warning level ( with the exception of the moderators). Individual warning levels are not vieweable by the general membership.

A warning of 100% will terminate membership on this Board. Warning are viewed by all the moderators as well as the Administration and discussed as to the appropriate action.

If there is a concern regarding the inappropriate behavior of any moderator, I would recommend that they be reported to the administration for a review of the circumstances.

I am sorry that you are displeased with the way things are run around here.

  5. I have a "warning" level of 33% because apparently more than 1.5 years ago, an admin removed a link to a blog from my signature. I never received a message about this, nor did I have any idea I was "warned".

33% seems pretty high for posting an innocent link to a completely appropriate blog.

Can someone make this go away?

After three warnings, the member is no longer a member here. One warning is valued at 33%.

I would recommend that you contact Scott Adams (admin) and discuss this with him. Some concerns regarding warning are very legitimate and worthy of discussion.

  6. I may be wrong about this, but I've read that all boullion is on the "bad" list. I checked my beef bullion cubes in the cupboard and sure enough they are loaded with gluten ingredients. Perhaps gluten free boullion is available or perhaps just canned "stock" is gluten free? But I definitely know mine contained various hydrolyzed ingredience and modified vegetable proteins and starches. Perhaps a bad brand? If you think about it, though, there's something holding it together and somethiing else making it oily enough to smash apart.

Hydrolyzed ingredients, modified vegetable proteins and starches do not indicate gluten. What ingredients are in question?

  7. Hi Dawn and welcome here!

These are the test (the whole panel) that your doctor needs to order:

Anti-gliadin antibodies (AGA) both IgA and IgG

    Anti-endomysial antibodies (EMA) - IgA

Anti-tissue transglutaminase antibodies (tTG) - IgA

    Total IgA level

I don't know how old your son is, but often times these tests are not very reliable for children under five. Even in adults the reliability is not always accurate.

There are three current mean of diagnosis:

    1. blood work (as above)

    2. endoscopy-biopsy

    3 positive dietary response.

Good luck with your testing and feel free to ask any question.

  8. I bought some Orrington Farms chicken bouillon. It said gluten free but has MSG listed as an ingredient. I am confused, some lists have MSG as ok and others don't. I used it to make pea soup and had heartburn and a few other bad stomach vibes...

Does anyone know if MSG is truly gluten free? I know its not good for you, but its in everything like taco seasoning and chicken bouillon.

MSG is not gluten related. Not so good for you, as you said, but not gluten related. I use HerbOX bouillon all the time.

  9. Last week I had a biopsy and endoscope. The GI doc said (or at least his nurse told me) that he believes I'm negative for Celiac's. This is fine, great even. BUT I am still feeling sick. My (sorry for the TMI) symptoms are chronic D, bleeding and stomach cramps. Also my grandmother is a Celiac. The nurse told me to quit drinking caffeine. I am very leery that this is my problem. I mean, how can caffeine cause my symptoms? Can someone tell me what to do at this point? Should I call the GI doc and ask them to send me my results on paper. Could this be something else or is it possible to have a false negative?

    Thanks for any help!

    Jenny

    Hi Jenny and Welcome!

I am a person with Celiac Disease, but not a Celiac. :D;)

Biopsies can be very hit and miss and there are many, many false negatives. If your biopsy is negative, but you have a genetic history, I would go on the diet for a few months and my bet is that you will see great improvement in your health. Or, you could pursue genetic testing.

I would continue with medical testing because rectal bleeding could be of some concern.

Caffeine can be a strong irritant to the gut and it wouldn't hurt to go easy until you are feeling better.

  10. I read it here maybe I mis-read the reply LOL! B)

I thought it said people new to the diet (for the first 6 months) need to avoid the pre-made gluten free breads and cookies because (what I thought I read) it was too dense and redamaged the newly healing vili

    :lol:B)

your favrorite gluten free dork ;)

    sickchick

I do think that you need some time to forget what real bread, pasta and cookies taste like, in order to appreciate the gluten free versions.

As the others mentioned, with a compromised gut, it helps to feed it foods that are easily digested.
