Just jumping in here ...We use a chimney stuffed with newspaper and some natural wood chips in the bottom. Although the hubby uses lighter fluid to start the chimney other than that, we us Cowboy wood chips....perhaps all toooooo often.
I haven't read the pre-disending posts, so excuse if it's already been mentioned.

Does anyone know if Anisette is ok? What about Lemoncello, Strega, and Di Saronno? I'm asking because I got sick from Hiram Walker Anisette once but not too badly. Also a week after my 21st birthday I had two Martinis and I got really sick. It says here that Martinis are ok: https://www.celiac.com/st_prod.html?p_prodid=271&p_catid=12&sid=91hH9H1kK7kW3hl-15107500505.85 . Is it only certain kinds of Martinis? Does anyone know if I can have a Singapore Sling Open Original Shared Link Is Southern Comfort ok? I know I asked a lot of questions here but I know that some are repeats but I can't find the answers for some of them.
I was diagnosed with Celiac Sprue when I was 20, two weeks before my 21st birthday, which I got sick on either from bad fish or ice cream. I didn't know ice cream could be bad for me. I have been reading threads on this site for months to help me along and I have been calling the companies and checking their sites.

On the home page of this site is a list of gluten free alcohol. It is very conservative. It is considered that most alcohols that are distilled removed the gain content during the process. Not to say, that some do react as it has been mentioned here.
Capt. Morgans is on the safe list, so that should give you some options. The more components that you add to a mixed drink the increase in suspects. My advise is to keep it simple. Seagrams-7 and 7-up, Rum and Coke. But, CMA statement, many here cannot tollerate liquor at all.
Dairy could well have caused you reaction. I would back off that a bit until your insides are heal a little bit, then try it and see you can handle it.

Thanks to all of you that have posted support and continue to have us in your prayers and good thoughts. Children's prayers are especially touching. They are always the best ones.
There are so many of you, but your gracious support means a lot to me and her distant family.
Miss Hazel's heart muscle is very damages, but knowing her as always a wonderfully good hearted person, it is doing the best it can do. She is eating two bits from every meal and not taking much fluids, but just sips., maybe at best.
This board is so wonderful. Everyone is kind and supportive. We have our little spits and spats from time to time. But we have some really wonderful people here and what good friends I have made.
I talk to one of you today for the first time on the phone and how wonderful it was to "feel" the person behind the words of support that we read every day. Yeah, good folks here. If Rachelville were true?!
Thanks you all again for your added strength, it's there among you.

Thank you, all of you.

I have an elderly friend that has lost all her family and we have been very close for over 30 years. My children have never known a grandmother. I lost my mother as a very small child, so it always seemed to be a good fit...she has been like my mother, had I known one.
She had a hearattack on May 28 and was airlifted to a cardio center two hours away. She is 82 and they can't do a stint, or bipass. There are three main arteries 100% blocked and the prognosis does not look good, as she continues to have silent heartattacks. The doctors are kind and the only thing they can do is give her pain med as necessary. She does have a living will and promises were made by her doctor that he will honor her wishes. She is lucid and knows what's going on. And I hold her health care power of attorney. Wonderful job.
Today they transfered her back to our town and she is in skilled nursing. I am glad that she is here, but not hopeful that she will ever see her home again. Time is the only element here.
The days ahead will not be easy ones. I'm just pretty darn sad. I just gotta be strong. Share your strenth with me.

Had to share this....
Went to grocery store tonight to get pie filling for teh apple cheese danishes.....and on the back of the can it said....
Modified Food Starch(corn)....it was the generic brand Flavorite at Pick n Save....I was just impressed that they actually identified it as corn!
Good days are comming! Yeah!

That was my attempt at humor too.
To be honest here, I thing we are all a little bit odd and I stand proud with that label!!!
-
Well, someone needs a warning with all this calling people morons ... especially since she's calling the admin a moron!
Carla, that was Scotts attemp at humor. There is no record here that I called Scott a moron.
No need to worry.
-
Did you call me a moron?! Just kidding...
Huh? Well, I have been after you for days, as my kids say "proly so"( a family term). Interpret as you please.
Whew!

Did you speak to the caterer prior to the wedding? Did you ask your nephew about accomodating you? I mention this because in today's age, it has never happened to me. The point was not that I didn't have anything to eat, the point was, I have a great time without food. No, I didn't speak to the caterer, I have no idea who it was. The bride's family did the meal, I live 800 miles away, I didn't go to eat, I went to give Troy and Jen my best wishes! I do not expect others to cater to me, I do not ask for special treatment, I do not go for the meal, I go for the love of family and friends!
We all have this crazy disorder and having it means having to put up with outdated info on the internet, inaccuracies, mistruths and even incredulous heresay. Sometimes people's feelins get hurt on this board, but I'm not sure why people take it personally.BB--it's what you insinuate that bothers me and I am sure most of the others who dared say anything. We do not think we are wrong anymore than you think you are wrong. It's all about attitude. I am tired of the attitude of this thread, it's not about MFS anymore, it's about hurting other's feelings and then pretending you did nothing wrong.
Sooo, why don't we close it up and move on.

I have never heard of them but they sure sound good. And, sounds like they would be easily made at home. If I recall, someone here does. A banana, popsicle stick and dipped in chocolate and frozen....sound wonderful

I am 33 years old and have been told in the past many times that I have Irritable Bowel Syndrome. I ate low carb for many years because I have PCOS. Due to my intense exercise regimen I added back very high fiber and unprocessed carbs.
I found out I have iron deficiency anemia and virtually no iron stores. My vitamin B and vit D are also low. I feel like crap. I can barely work out. I am so very weak. I had diarrhea every evening for two months with no stomach pains at all, just urgency. I now (at least twice a week) wake up with terrible aching in my stomach (not sharp pains - had those in the past too, not anymore) and they proceed to have something like 5 large bowel movements turning into diarrhea. I have frequent nausea and there are days where I eat very little. There are also days that I eat nonstop because I feel sooooo hungry. I have very large bowel movements several times per day.
The worst problem is the refractory heartburn/reflux I've had for almost 7 years. I also have terrible burning/gurgling in my stomach all day long. Almost like hunger pains, but not quite. Nothing helps. I'm on 80 mg day of Protonix. I feel terrible after I eat wheat it seems like. I've had two upper scopes over the last two years with everything normal. However - they weren't specifically looking for celiac. All my antibody tests were negative.
People think I am a hypocondriac. I'm not! I get weaker and weaker by the day. I've been to four doctors about this. I also have to diagnose my own problems and I'm always right!
I go to a new GI doc next week - if he doesn't believe me, I'm trying the diet on my own.
HELP!
Jen:
Test for Celiac are very specific and you can find the exact tests for Celiac on this site. I am amazed and not that your doctors have not tested for that.
If, though your testing, nothing is apparent you can go on the gluten free diet without a doctors recommendation. Many people here are self diagnosed and never looked back. Your symptom are definitely many of the over two symptoms of Celiac.
There may be a possibilty that you may be gluten intollerant,. which may be the pre-curser to Celiac. You may have the symptoms, but not the damage.
I will pass to others, but you may want to try to diet. No pills, just a change in diet.
Hope you find your answers soon. Life is too short to feel miserable.

I had a TB Skin Test yesterday...I work in healthcare.....I am having a reaction...not a positive but an allergic type reaction. It iches ect. I had the test yesterday at 12 and starting last evening I started to get gassy and all day today I have the big D. Could this be Celiac related? I know you have to ingest gluten....so I didn't worry if the test had gluten in it. Is this possible????
I'm pretty positive that I didn't eat gluten or get CC'd....this was the only thing I could think of....Any ideas??????
PS Same thing happened last year prior to me being diagnosed!
Jessie:
You might know more about this than I, but perhaps you could have a allergy reaction to something in the injection. (maybe, corn, egg based) I think many of us are more sensitive to things post gluten removal than pre gluten times.
Just a thought. Hope it passes soon.

deedub:
Sometimes after you are gluten free you can find yourself sensitive to other things. It is often recommended here to go dairy light or eliminate it all together until your intestines can heal, Then add it to your diet and check for a reaction.
Be careful with your toiletries and cross contamination. Gluten is a sneeky sucker!

Been a little bit sidetracked lately, but as so many, a well wish for you for your birthday.

Hi everyone - this is my very first post after being diagnosed with celiac last week. The diagnosis was a long time coming given the fact that my doctors and I knew something was wrong but had been unable to put our fingers on it. Although I have lots and lots of questions this website is helping to answer many of them as I try to transition into my new life. However, one question I have that I have not come across pertains to the risk or concerns of jogging or walking in the great outdoors amongst wheat and barley fields.
After learning that celiacs must be careful to not just watch what they eat, but what they use to brush their teeth, wash their hair, and wash their clothes. This gave me pause when I went for my morning run yesterday as I was admiring the green of the fresh barley and wheat fields. I wondered - should I be concerned, should I wear a mask, should I run elsewhere? But even if I should run somewhere else, I still live right near these fields so it is not like I am away from it.
Any insight from others that live near areas where wheat or barley is grown and how it does or does not affect them is so appreciated.
First let me welcome you to this site and hope you can be free to ask as many questions that you may have.
From what I understand is that gluten needs to be ingested to effect you intestines. Breathing may get into your nasal passages and therefore find it's way through you digestive system. Just the same way that I don't like to go down the bread or flour lines in the grocery store. I can smell the flour.
I have no documentation to support this, nor is this a major issue for me. But, if you have a choice to run elsewhere, I would choose that.

With total rejection of the name "Goose Gulia," my bet is that when you see her for the first time you will know who she is to be. Happy days ahead for you. Best wishes to you and the grand big sister.

Does anyone have some good (and not too hard) one dish recipes that can be frozen and heated or cooked later for a gluten-free friend? She has children ages 6 to 12 and a husband--all with no dietary restrictions--so it would be great if they were 'family friendly.'
Thanks in advance for any help from her well-meaning but gluten-free ignorant girlfriends!
How thoughtful!! You must be a really wonderful friends.
There is a huge selection of recipes on on this site. Scroll down to the bottom and select the Recipes Forum...there you will find selections in the thousands. Baking and Cooking forum, I believe.
Wish I had more friends like you.

Thank you Scott. I agree, except for this statement: Last, if you buy a product that was made in the USA and sold in the USA, you really don't need to worry about Modified Food Starch, it is safe--or as safe as anything can be (sure, you can continue to worry about such things if you want to, but please don't try to make others here worry about it without good evidence to back it up). It may be as safe as anything can be in some minds, but not in mine. I do not present my opinion to scare people or worry them--I truly feel we cannot trust a company just because they say we can. If it is modified cornstarch, then why not use the word "CORNSTARCH"? I do not trust my health to others, I take it into my own hands. I eat mostly unprocessed foods and when I do purchase something processed, it always says modified cornstarch.
And yes, this is your choice Deb to be in controll of your health life. Trusting your health to you and you alone is the only way to go. I totally agree 100%. But choose it for you.
As you know well, you can offer supported information and it is up the the reader to accept or not accept. Celiac.com is not the end all for product information as things change daily. This site is a learning process and a stepping stone for potentional good health of those who knock at this door.

Teacher:
When my husband and I went to the college orientation, I was never more impressed. But, they told the parents a small key to communication.
Mail him a letter, write a nice note and note that there is a $50.00 check inside to maybe dine out or have some fun with. AND THEN NEVER INCLUDE IT IN THE LETTER. I can assure you that you will get a call as soon as it has been received.
It truly works.
You just have ventured into a whole new world and not without challenges. It can be frustrating. I don't know about your son...but. One of mine sold her last semester books and the check for the books was coming on Monday. Okay, well, she went shopping on Monday...and the buyer of the used books could not come up with the money. Checks were like a ping pong ball....bouncing everywhere.
We love them. You'll be fine, it's not a loss, it's a change. I do have to admit, I miss the high school years. I never knew who would come through the door or how many...and loved every minute of it.
Celebrate his celebration. And most of all celebrate your success in him.

Does anyone have a problem with processed parmesan cheese. My sister added some to my bread crumbs to try and give them a little flavor and I broke out in my rash. I didn't get too sick, no gas but, my bowels did change. I went a little more often than I would have liked. The only thing that is on the label that we can't figure out is "cellulose".
Assumingly your bread crumbs were gluten free, yes? Cellulose should not be an issue for celiacs. Rather that, perhaps you may have a issue with dairy for the moment. Sometimes dairy is an issue in the begining and many can reintroduce it after some healing.

Ya know, I don't know what is right to say or wrong to say. As a moderator, I have certain responsibilities but as an active member here with Celiac I have a voice in that as well. As a Celiac member, I have a lot I would like to say. As a moderator, I will refrain.
I thank the few that have been in support, but on the other hand, it's not about "he said, she said", and there are no sides here. It's about respect. Disagreements do happen here and most often it is handled well by mature adults. As it should be.
Is there a conclusion to this thread (gosh knows I hope), I don't' know. But I do think that we should shut the door on this one. The productivity is lost.
