  1. Hi, this is for the veterans and those in the know, I suppose.

What do you use for determining that you've recovered from a bad celiac condition? Is it physiological, is it psychological, is it both and what is it? I know it takes longer for those that are older and it involves something more than just learning to ignore those Pizza Hut commercials.

I've been 15 months gluten free and feel 100% better. But does it get 400% better? Or do you ever completely heal?

    Margaret: It's all of everything.

Wow, that is a darn good question. I guess when you are aware of your restrictions and apply them well. When you continue in your diligence and feel comfortable walking in your shoes.

Maybe, when it's when you forget that you have a disability and learn that you have abilities. Maybe when your focus is on future and know that you have climbed a mountain and know how to do it again. You are healed.

(yes, I know, I am nauseating myself.... B) ), but all true!

  2. I cannot find gluten information anywhere on the Hardee's website anymore. I found the nutrition section, but it didn't say anything about allergens. Does anyone know if Hardee's burgers (no bun, obviously) or fries would be safe? Also, the chili cheese fries look great, but I have been afraid to try them without a gluten free menu.

I suspect that you couldn't find any gluten free information on Hardee's is that there is none.

Wendy's though, has several items to select from.

This risk of cross contamination is always a concern at fast food places.

  3. Yes, let the fun begin. My girls are adults now but I can sure remember. At age 10 and female, all the girls are attempting to be on the top of the pile, at all cost. Friends get betrayed, talking behind your back and no regard for feelings. Then the herd mentality kicks in. If you're out with one, baby, you're out with all. It's an awful, awful time for these young people.

Self-confidence and a stong interest in a personal hobby or sport will help quite a bit.

  4. At diagnosis, DD was also intolerant to dairy, soy and all meats. This makes getting protein and iron somewhat difficult. She can now handle everything except beef. Dh wondered allowed if this didn't have something to do with the "grain fed" part. Is there anyway for gluten to get into the beef this way or is it still a separate intolerance altogether?

I have found that when my digestive system is compromised, it is difficult to digest beef. It's harder to break down than other foods. I suspect that it is an intolerance. Afer healing, perhaps you could reintroduce beef and see how it goes.

  5. Welcome Randy:

This is a great place to learn about Celiac.

First, don't rush off any by gluten free foods yet. (I still have some I bought when I was first dx'd almost two years ago). Try to stick to naturally gluten free foods such as, meats, seafood, rice, potatos, fresh veggies, eggs and fruit.

The diet is not difficult and with a little adjustment, you can eat as well as before and healthier.

Some people are sensitive to dairy until they heal and then gradually re-introduce into their diet.

There is a ton of information on this site. Read and Ask.

  6. My ten year old is scheduled for biopsy this week...because of a positive EMA and TTG. The doctor gave me a choice - outpatient biopsy in the endoscopy unit, or in the surgery unit with general anastetic (spelling?). I chose outpatient.

Did I make the safest choice for my child? Any input or experience with the procedure on a child would be helpful. Thanks.

I did the out patient. They gave me something to knock me out and went to sleep. I had no probems and would do it again with ease if needed. Child or adult, I was assume to proceedure would be the same.

  7. Glad I found you all. I wasn't easy registering here took me many trys but I did it. For some reason it wouldn't send my home email address a comfirmation so Ihad it sent to work???

Where do I get started? My Daughter who is 51/2 had the blood work done for Celiac's antiboties were very high, she had the endoscopy and biopsy done this past Thursday pretty much confriming the fact that she has it. We willhave aformal consult next Thursday. I was told to go ahead and put her on a Gluten free diet. I am in mourning for her and all the foods she can no longer have. I feel sad but I am not letting her see this. We haveb een shopping and found a few good things. have a million questions but I guess I will start with 2.

Is hidden Valley Ranch salad dressing gluten-free or not? I'm getting mixed messages from everywhere

How about M&M's? Her two favorite foods. Would love to chat with anyone.

Glad you found us as well. Welcome.

First, know that eating gluten free is much healthier than not. Five and a half is a wonderful age to teach her to eat well and healthy.

Hidden Valley Ranch is not gluten free, but Kraft Ranch is. And m&m's are my snack food of choice. (but not the crunchy m&m's)

Next question? :) Feel free to chat away!

PS: NoGluGirl has a wonderful starter list. I am sure she will post with it.

  8. BF Welcome, I'm glad that this information was helpful to you.

Personally, I had some small aches and pains and a chronic backache for years, but certainly not to the level as your husband. I can attest that there are many here that are no longer in need of their wheelchair. Be hopeful.

I am sure that others will post shortly. (it's always slow around here on the weekend).

Learn and read here as much as you can. This diet seems like a mountain in the beginning. But with a little bit of knowledge it is very doable..

When I had a biopsy to confirm Celiac, I had never heard of it before. Many, many members self-diagnosed without the need of cost of testing - and never looked back.

This site is the best information that you will be able to find. The support and education of the members here have been a lifesaver for me.

Please feel free to ask away.

  9. Nicole:

I don't know if I can be of help, but I can bump it up for you.

There is soy milk and Smart Balance Butter Spread that it dairy free. It is available in most grocery stores. If I can find it here, it can be found anywhere.

Do a search here on this site as "Dairy Free" and see what you come up with, and, as surely others will post.

But, most importantly, take one step at a time. Take time to learn and then make changes.

    And BREATH deeply.

    Lisa
