  1. Gosh Jerry, I love ya to death....but you are your worst enemy! :P Can't you get some cooperation from "the little wife" (not my words, but yours B) )

Would it be possible to enlist her in your efforts to keep you out of the bathroom. What she spends in cooking naturally gluten free, tasty hardy meals could save you the cost of additional toilet paper.

  2. I would think that the evidence would point to Celiac given your strong family history.

You have the option to go gluten free and forgo further testing and determine if it is Celiac or intolerance by positive dietary response. Remain on gluten for the full blood panel, or to retest the endoscopy (which results may be patchy).

Many here have chosen the diet rather than the expense of testing. It seem to work for them.

When I was test, I had never heard of Celiac. After the diagnosis, the first thing I did was get on the Internet to see what I had. And I never left.

You will get some great suggestions from the well informed, generous folks here.

  3. Hello Everyone,

I'm a just a tad late here in thanking everyone for their input! I did make my casserole that day thanks to the input I received here.

I was wondering... some of you said you looked it up and learned the Campbell's brand was gluten-free. Where did you find this info?

Again, thanks so much :D !

    Connie

I wrote the company and requested a list of their gluten free products. It came in the mail within a week. Also, If I remember correctly, it is on the Delifi Gluten Free Product List for 2006.

    Chicken Broccoli Cheese

Savory Lentil..........are the only Campbell's Soups that are gluten free In the United State (not Canada)

  4. Lisa:

I don't think that lactose causes damage (to my knowledge), just discomfort/symptoms when we don't have enough lactase.

Casein, I think I've heard that it hypothetically can, in some people. I don't think they know enough yet.

    Laura

    Thanks Laura,

? What is the difference between lactose and lactase?

  5. Hey Bre:

I have been out of the dating world for almost 30 years (yikes :( ) so, no expert here. We live in a small town and although I kept it to myself while I was my sickest, most of the people that I knew, were aware that I was having "issues".

You were dx'd om 2001 and should have the diet down. Your friend should feel lucky, because you can cook for him and not be considered "high maintenance".

I did recently re-connect with an old friend from college. We talked about out lives in between. I told him about Celiac and my frustrations in dining out. He sent me the Triumph Dining Restaurant Guide, because he thought it would be helpful.

People surprise me every day. Be honest, be yourself and if he can't deal.........he's the wrong guy. You are a beautiful young woman, and I am sure that there will be many to choose from.

  6. Hi all,

Is it possible to sneeze as an immune reaction to ingestion of gluten?

Maybe so, but I have not seen it listed as one of the symptoms. I feel that I want to sneeze in the flour section in the grocery isle.

  7. I belong to a Catholic Church. I told a priest about my Celiac disease and wanted to know if he could offer me a gluten-free host. I was told that Protestant Churches wil give those with celiac disease a rice host.

My Church sent me a letter stating they can only offer me a low gluten communion host.

I guess they don't care if I or others with celiac disease get sick. I'm really upset.

They also suggested that I just take the wine. They don't seem to think that there are cc issues. When my children drink out of my glass after having gluten in their mouths I do get sick.

What should Catholic people with Celiac do?

    Please let me know.

    Donna:

Receiving Communion has been a much discussed subject here. (and I might add, that it never ends well and gets into theology ). I am familar with the Catholic Church. The consensus is that some parishes are willing to substitute a low wheat host for a rice based host. Others are not.

A low gluten communion host, may as well be a full gluten host for celiacs. I understand you frustration. Passing the wine would certainly give you concerns for CC.

I would suggest that you bring a piece of gluten free bread with you, hold it when the Priest does the blessing and consume it quietly and privately. Or obstain from Communion all to gether. It may not be the Church's way of dealing with things such as these. But, this can be a private, quite way of communing with God.

  8. Here are a few interesting facts in Discovery Magazine, March issue :o

The Food and Drug Administration declares meat and milk from Cloned Animals SafeTo Eat and says they can be sold with no special labeling.

Japanese chemists create VANILLIN FROM COW DUNG. Vanillin is the main component of vanila-bean extract in artifical flavorings.

Get your sunshine: Harvard epidemiologists find that Caucasians with a high blood levels of vitamin D have a 62 PERCENT LOWER RISK OF MULTIPLE SCLEROSIS.

Who would have thought? COW DUNG, ghesh. :(

  9. :)

I will definitely spend a lot of time here. I have already spent quite a bit, and have learned many things. I am very committed to sticking with his diet. I am finding that it is very much so trial and error, at least at first! I am fortunate to live near Bob's red mill headquarters, and I have purchased lots of different grains to get a good start! I am just so grateful to finally know the cause of his symptoms. I can't wait for him to start growing like a weed!!!

If you have any questions, ask away :)

  10. Had to revive the "poop freaks" thread here because...

I just had my first real BM in over 4 months!

OMG! I 'm more excited than when the Colts won the Super Bowl. Had to share with someone, the family wasn't quite as thrilled as I thought they might be. Although I think I lost them when I invited them in for a look B)

:P Where else could you share you excitement! Good job in the john, John!!!

It's sad sometimes that simple things are a really big deal. :( . You might have some ups and down along the way, but you seem to be on a good road.

Are we not an interesting bunch? :(

  11. Thank you so much for your help! Unfortunately, the only things that my son will really eat dependably are cereal, pasta, crackers, bread, and poultry. He's a carb junkie!!! That is why this is so hard. I've bought lots of new products. Some have been bad, others are OK. Thanks again for all ideas!

    Jenny:

It is really important that he be gluten free.

I would suggest that you spend some time here reading the posts. There is a wealth of information here. Celiac is a very important in young children and it needs immediate concern.

I did not know anything about Celiac until the doctor told me I have it. As distressed as I was, I learned. You have to learn for you son. Please be an active member here and learn from those that have come before you.

  12. Betty, your picture is lovely. It's nice to see who you are. I haven't gotten that brave yet. I'm working my way through the family. I am proud of my girls.

Pheobe Buffay, you are the best quaft (female dog) on the forum. Laying on your back with those inviting eyes...ohhhhh what a tease. :P

Edit: I put in the B-word (female dog) and it changed to "jerk".......I don't know what a "B" and a jerk have in common.

  13. My 3 yr old son was just diagnosed with Celiac disease a couple of days ago. He has had diarrhea, abdominal bloating, small appetite, irritability, and a small stature nearly his entire life. I have purchased lots of new food for him already. It's really hard because he is a VERY picky eater. Does anyone have any recommendations for kid-friendly food?

Also I've been using the list of forbidden foods from this website, but I noticed that some of the foods that I thought were OK have some of the ingredients. Like Kelloggs rice crispy treats have malt flavoring. The box didn't say that it contained wheat ingredients, so is that OK for him to eat? Just how picky do you have to be about some of the items on the forbidden foods list?

Do I have to buy new pots, pans & utensils? Should I buy a new toaster?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Jenny:

I know very well how frustrating all of this is in the beginning. It does get better.

Rice Krispies have MALT and it is forbidden. He can have nothing with wheat, rye, malt, barley and oats.

I did not buy new pots and pans and a good hand wash cleans them well. I would throw out any teflon pans that are scratched (gluten can hide in the cracks), and I disgarded all my wooden spoons.

A separate toaster will be needed. The old one will have gluten crumbs and they can't be cleaned very well.

There are severl cereals that he can have. I will leave that the the other mothers with small children.

Try in the beginning to cook naturally gluten free foods. Chicken, Pork, Beef, Tuna (yah, bet he'll eat tuna <_< ), Seafood, Potatoes, Rice and fresh veggies and fruit.

    Here are a few starters:

Jif Peanut Butter ........ NO PLAYDO (it is made with wheat)

    Oscar Meyer hot dogs

    Yoplait

Kraft will clearly list all ingred.

    Dole Fruit Cups

    Vanns Gluten Free Eggos

    V-8 Splash

    jELLO

    Smuckers Jelly

    Cheetos

    Lays Stack

NoGluGirl (a member here) has a long list of named product that are gluten free. You can PM her and I am sure that she will send it to you.

There are many mother of child celiac and they are a great bunch and so very helpful.

I hope that this is helpful.

  14. Uh oh.....here in Memphis, the second ingredient(seasoning) in the Sam's Wholesale Club rotisserie chicken is wheat ! Someone was trying to bring me a gluten-free lunch last week and that was on the label....

Ditto, with my experience. Please be careful.

  15. Mango:

I sort of agree. As the first to post after his initial one, I knew that his claim would send ripples around here. I "with all due respect", did challenge his claim. I was concerned that others or newbies could realize this as a "cure" for celiac, and disregard a gluten free diet.

Perhaps, as you said, that the cleansing helped with his candida and it was not celiac related.
