  1. You know, I really admire all of the mothers with celiac children. It's darn hard to deal with the diet as an adult, but with a child must be so difficult. Often, you have to depend on others when they are out of your care, through working or otherwise. And they young little people will put anything in their mouth at any time.

MY HAT IS OFF TO ALL OF YOU. Your children are blessed to have YOU as their mothers. :)

  2. Lucky Santa in the Caymans

Santa's best present was to bring summer for us. For the last few weeks it has been chilly, not at all summer like, but Santa bought it in just for us. Now since I have 6 weeks off work I can pack up a and go to the beach and chill out.

Whoa, Cathy, I do forget sometimes that some of you are enjoying summer while some of us are chilly in our winter. It would be soooo strange for me not to get gloves, scarfs, coats for gifts. Although, it might be cool to open presents and then go to the beach.

I hope that you had a wonderful Christmas....maybe some Margarita Mix with a new beach chair. :P

  3. After reading what has been written on this site, I felt like it was me writing this. I have been gluten free for about 3 months. At first it was really hard and I acted like a child rebelling over not being able to eat my favorite foods. I have also been seeing a chiropractor for my lower back pain which I thought was due to my distended belly. I wish general practitioners knew more about this. I had a rough time over the holidays and am paying the consequences for it now. After feeling great for being gluten free, I cheated christmas eve, felt like crap and beat up (flu like symptoms) and then went down hill christmas day. I feel awful now and have been on this site hoping to get back on track (major headaches and stuffiness) Thank you to everyone who writes in on this site and helps people get back on track. DON'T CHEAT EVER ITS NOT WORTH IT!

    Another incentive:

I had terrible lower back pain for three years. After several months of being gluten free, it totally went away and has not returned. I believe my pain came from inflamation of the small intestines.

  4. KatieMae:

First a welcome into our world. I hope that you have been reading from some of our posts. They are quite informative.

The celiac diet can be a frustrating experience; bread, soy sauce, envelopes, salad dressing, tooth paste, lotions, shampoo, lipstick and the list continues.

To answer your specific question, most cheeses are gluten free. But to put your mind at easy, most companies have a www. site that you can write, or even call on a 1-800 number.

I enjoy cheese fairly liberally with not much worry.

  5. Renee:

That is an option you may need to exlore. There are any people that post here that work in restaurants and do it successfully.

There are always so many things to adapt to in a gluten free lifestyle. Of course you know not to get anything into your mouth, which you have indicated. As well, you wash your hand often. I think if you are aware and take the safe guards against exposure, you can do your job and be safe.

But on the flip side, if you can do something else and not have the worry, that may need some exploration as well.
