  1. Just a quick question for anyone on line. Mustards still confuse me. Is Grey Poupon ok. It lists vinegar (not distilled) and mustard seeds.

Got really sick yesterday and stayed in bed all day with headache, fever and bathroom trips. (could have been oysters out of season). - or could that have been a gluten attach -- fever?

Any quick advise would be great.

  2. Thanks Lisa.  I will read it tonight after all the rugrats have gone to bed.....

I have been looking for a reason to quit, maybe this will work.......

I too smoke, need and want to. If it doesn't you don't want to (me either).

Will contact celiac3270 when I can devote a while on the comp. and maybe he or someone can walk me through the down load for delf. Thanks for passing on my problems. Wish I could do that on to a palm pilot and carry it around in the grocery store. But on the other hand don't really know or care to learn what a palm pilot does. You know.."old dog, new tricks"

Thanks Karen -- Officiallu Diog. Today with Biops. results....and actually feeling ok with that. I can work this out. Just need to work on the modified food starch, etc. and hope it won't make celiac3270 laugh

  4. Hello, everyone,

I've been trying to do more with celiac over the past few months...just didn't know what I could do (beyond the message boards, that is).  Anyway, I'm going to write a few articles for the Westchester Celiac Sprue Support Group newsletter...I wrote a two page article on the GIG conference and Chris (the lady in charge of the support group and newsletter) liked the idea of including some of the "You might be celiac if..." quotes.

There won't be room for 191 of them, but I was going to take maybe 40-50 of the funniest and submit those, giving credit to the members of the Gluten-Free Forum at Celiac.com.  Does anyone have any objections to my including some of their submissions?  I'm not using them for anything I would make a profit off of (such as books, memorabilia, etc.), but just trying to help some celiacs in my area to make light of a not-so-light situation.

Ummm...I'd like to get a few "okays" from some people here (I won't wait for everyone), and then if anyone has any issues with my using their submissions, let me know and I'll make sure I avoid them.

  5. I would like to talk to someone my age or around. I am a little frustrated with the message board. I have asked many question and few were answered. Also, I have learned alot just monitoring the sight. That has been invaluable. Seems to be all good people with a common interest.

I would like to correspond with someone (THROUGH E-MAIL) on a one-to-one basis. I think that that would be very helpful to me and vise-versa. If anyone would be willing to correspond to me on that basis, would be wonderful.

I am 50yrs old, have two daughters 21 and 24. Eastern European decent. My youngest has digestive issues that may be related to Celiac.

If anyone has the time and willingness to be a "pen-pal" regarding Celiac, please contact my e-mail address, as registered on the members list, please contact me.

Thank you for your time and hope to hear from some of you. -- Lisa

  6. Feeling a little bit invisable here. I would love to start a support group in eastern NC. I have alot to learn.

I am 50yrs old. I check into the webb site several times a day and have gotten great information. Alot of you seem so young and so knowledable. I have often heard that there is no question that is elementary for a response. I have a poss biosy for celiac disease and I think that I can handle that pretty well. I don't like pasta, bread of beer. Never ate much at all. I do have interest in ingredience and cosmetics, shampoos and such. I have written a post that I have been unable to download the deliforms web site to obtain safe products. I believe that I have been unable to do so because my anti-virus will not allow me.

My daughter may also have celiac disease. She (21) wakes up every morning with a headache and often than not gets severe cramping after meals (mostly evening). She suffers from cronic constipations and is uncomfortable most of the time. My question is: Since I am celiac disease, without having her endure the endocopy exam, would I suggest to my Gastro. Dr. that he test her for the Gene test, or Blood Test? Would like to have something done local and submitted from his office, and not self submitted to a lab?

To end, is there anyone out there that is my age and can decipher between menopause and Celiac.

Thanks for listening, thanks again if you repond.

  7. Try this:

Wish Bone/ Newmans Own Italian Dressing (Check for Ingred.) Think is OK

    gluten-free Soy Sauce

    Honey

    Ginger

Fresh Garlic (ground or mashed)...I live in the South, I can use the word mashed.

    Toasted Sesame Seed Oil.

Merinade over night for Steaks, Tuna, Salmon, Chic, Pork....

Grill Pork with an Apple Sauce dip, Chic. with Salsacn Queso (Tostitos).

*Disclaimer: Only gluten-free for a week, fast learner, but would not want to inflict anyone to my misinformation. ALWAYS CHECK BEFORE YOUR INDULGE.

    * Computer is not letting me do to correct changes, but I thing all it understood.

    Thank you, hope your enjoy.

  8. Good Eve.

I am very new to the Celiac Diet and it has been quite the challenge. But, tonight did my best to cook gluten-free. Servered a wonderful dinner to my family and would be wonderful for guests. Here it is:

Tuna Steaks, merinaded in Lawry's Herb and Garlic with Lime (merinaded over night). Cooked on the Grill.

Fresh green beans, sauteed on the stove top with butter, TOASTED sessame seed oil, garlic and a little dill weed.

    Brown Rice.

    The Fam. really liked it.

To the best of my knowledge, this is gluten-free. but would welcome input, if not correct. Tasted mighty good and a good choice for company.

Would welcome any other dinner, breakfast or lunch suggestions. (not a very good baker).

My 21 yr. old daughter may have celiac disease and trying gluten-free for a while to see. She wakes up in the morning she has a terrible headache and after eating meals, she often has bad stomach cramping (due to constipations). So trying to go gluten-free with her. The good thing in this is that she is trying to try my diet but it will not be easy for her. BUT SHE ATE MY DINNER AND ACTUALLY LIKED IT. Oh, my gosh.....

  9. Well.....Guess your body tells you what it wants. I never ate bread (glue and water), pasta (same), donunts (smell funny) and beer I can't stand. I have been spending hours in the grocery store reading lables. (my hubby thinks I like the butcher :). Definitely have some lower back issues. Is this an inflamation issue? I have lost ten pounds a year, 5'8" - 120lbs with a blouted belly. If I could twist my torso around and belly can be the bottom and vise versa, I's have a pretty good figure. Can't sit for a long time on hard chairs without pillow or my back will cramp up because I am sitting on my tail bone. Not cushion there. Does anyone have issues such as this with celiac disease?

My 21yr old daughter has been waking up with headaches for many months and cramps after eating. She is young and doesn't eat when she should. Should I have her tested?

    Lisa

  10. If you remain totally gluten-free, yes, other issues can continue to cause problems.  You can have any other gastointestinal problem along with celiac disease and you can have other food intolerances (particularly dairy) that can cause similar problems.  It can be tough to work through them and identify everything, but - as with most things - it just takes time and effort.  But if you have celiac disease, you have celiac disease.  If your blood tests and biopsies came back positive, then gluten is the problem.  Other things could *also* be problems, but gluten is.

The damage that they found in your biopsy is almost always caused exclusively by the autoimmune reaction initially started by the gluten proteins.  (Dairy can cause enteropathy as well, but it's much less common than celiac.)  The blood tests *specifically* look for an antibody against the wheat protein.  So it isn't measuring symptoms, it's measuring to see specifically if your immune system responds to wheat.  Eliminating stress will help heal the intestines but nothing is going to change your immune system back to no longer expressing the genes that produce the antibodies to wheat in your system.

  11. Member to join the club with positive biops. I have been talking to some of you through e-mail and hopefully graduating to the message board. Gratefull for some wonderful advise. I have had digestive issues most of my 50yrs. ug. and suddenly three months ago celiac disease kicked in and it has been difficult to leave to house with most of my stomach acid and all of my lunch taking the quick route. I have been trying to be gluten-free for two weeks and symptoms seen to be subsiding. Blouting and coronic lower back soarness have continued and am assumming continued inflamation, with mouth dryness. Does any of this sound consistant with celiac disease?

Question: Once celiac disease has settled in can the symptoms continue with any other substance if totally gluten free? (In otherwords, could glutens not be the issue, and what else could) Don't want to sound like I am in denial, but it seems to strange to me that a heavy bout with stress can cause a disease like Celiac (that part makes sense) and then for the rest of my like I have to filter out glutens.

Can or attempting to eliminate stress heal those little villi? - therefore eliminating glutens as the intolerants.

Thanks for all the info. that I have read and you all are unbelievable informed. Trying and learning fast. (If I get this on the board - thanks Kaiti) --Lisa
