  1. Yes I do have a Wendys nearby..yea Scarlett is my daughter she will be 2 in about 3 weeks or so. I was perfectly healthy and then when I had her thats when everything started with my stomach and feeling sick. I read that pregnancy and childbirth can trigger celiac =0/

Yes, you are right...there can be several triggers with pregnancy being one of them. Most likely, you may have a family gene, or a family history of intestinal issues.

I have a grand daughter who will be two on Jan 31.

Make sure you choose the healthy road, so you can see Scarlett grow up. That's so important in my life! :) I want to see my granddaughter grow and prosper and I want to be a part of it. I know you do too! :D Scarlett needs you to be healthy!

We can help you though your diet, if you need...we are here to help.

    xxxooo

  2. If I cant reproduce the foods I normally eat..I would spiral into a deeper depression that I am already in from this diagnosis. Not eating out everyday has already had me crying for the past 3 days.

You can, but you have to be patient. All good things in time!

By your user name, I assume you are Scarlett's Mom. What better reason to be healthy? What better reason to eat healthy?

Eating gluten free is just another name of eating what our bodies need.

I hope you have a Wendy's close by. I can offer safe suggestions:

  3. I went to Trader Joes and they told me to buy the Udi's brand. Im new to this so to me the texture is like a dry sponge. I cant take it. And thats the best? If so Lord help me now. I made a cheesebuger tonight and put it on a Udi's hamburger bun. I picked out half of the inside of the bun out to make it as thin as possible. Are there any others out there that arent dry and spongy?

There is no way to re-produce regular gluten free bread products, as you know it. I would strongly suggest that you not try to replace what you are familiar with. IT WON'T BE THE SAME! Don't try! You will waste you money, initially.

In the mean time, you need to learn the diet. It's a steep leaning curve. Are you up for it? If so, we're here to help.

Just go naturally gluten free and after that, go shopping one gluten free product at a time.

There are so many assets on this forum. We have all been in your shoes. Take a walk around.

  4. I'm posting this here because I am not whining (honest) :) and I don't want to play the "poor me" card, but sonav*&^^%, I'm POed and I want to say it in this section where the silly people lurk and they will laugh me out of it.

It took me a full 11 months post DX before I said one day to my hubs, "OMG! This is the best I have felt in 5 years. If it weren't for the bone, joint, muscle, nerve pain, I'd be golden..." That was December 1st.

Then, 4 days later, on our anniversary, I took a leap of faith and we went out to eat. Mind you, this is my first time in a "regular restaurant" (I only eat at a dedicated gluten-free cafe near us, run by a celiac.)

But, this is one of our favorite places to go. I have missed it. They are supposedly very good about accommodating food allergies/intolerances.

Dinner was fabulous!!! Roasted duck w/pear chutney, sweet potato puree, fresh green beans and flourless chocolate cake. I ate every bite. Not bad for a girl who could barely choke down water and rice for many weeks last year. I was in heaven!!!

The meals are marked gluten-free and all allergens and GLUTEN are listed clearly.

Felt safe making my choice and the server was celiac-savvy. ;)

Except...the desserts. No ingredients listed, but one did have a big gluten-free next to it. What can go wrong with flourless cake??

I have been sick ever since.

Bad. All my pre-DX symptoms, in full force and I could just cry. Instead, I wrote to the manager and left a message for the chef explaining why flourless does not guarantee gluten-free. Where did the cake come from? The woman who answered the phone today said she did not think they made the cake..."Some bakery makes it.":o

Moral of the story? Should have kept my trap shut. Jinxed myself. <_<

Darn it, I was on a 4 day roll there....

ah well, this too shall pass... thanks for listening. :)

I am so sorry that you are feeling poorly! But, you felt good enough to join the world of the living and you will do that again. So it's maybe one step forward and one back....it all progress. That's a good thing!!!!

    You're on a good road Irish! :)

  5. Hi all!

Had an endoscopy AND colonoscopy done yesterday to check for celiac, Crohns and/or microscopic colitis. No Crohn's found (yeah!) and I'm awaiting the formal pathology report for the other 2. But, on the test report that the doctor sent home with me she noted that she found "flattened mucosa in the duodenum, suspicious for celiac," and she also sent home a very brief synopsis of Celiac Disease which leads me to believe I'm on my way to a formal diagnosis.

The wait for the report is killing me, this whole process has been wait...wait...wait. I'm ready for some answers!

My question is, however, are there other things that can cause "flattened mucosa in the duodenum?" Or do some people just have flattened mucosa? Does the fact that it's actually visible to her mean anything as far as how damaged the mucosa might be?

Thanks in advance for any responses!

    Hello and Welcome!

Yes there are other things that can atrophy the villi, but with associated clinical history, often times it points to a gluten intolerance, with Celiac on the high end of the spectrum.

As with my endoscopy, when it's visible, there is considerable damage.

I would suggest you research the gluten free diet, while awaiting your test result.

This is a great resource for that! :)

  6. This is the first time I've posted anything. Read everything though and am so thankful for everyone's posting. I have not run across this topic of discussion and would like to ask questions of others who have horses and Celiac. Thanks!

    Hey and Welcome!

If you have horses on your property, you can make it work. I have had several horses over the years, but none as a diagnosed person with Celiac. Others here have.

What are your questions? Or, what is your routine with horses? We'll try to help

    AND welcome! :D

  7. You're right Anabanana...we learn to share with people and care with people. It can worry us or concern us about the people we share information about, and offer help...and we just don't hear back.

I'm learning that's the way of the internet. We like to think that people have manners, but I guess, sometimes they just don't. B)

  8. WOAH WOAH WOAH! Guys I was just kidding. It was a joke. Sorry to get you all riled up! Unless you have very high tech stuffies then you cant find other peoples IP addresses. And on this protected forum you might not be able to do it at all. It was a very illogical story, meant to exageratte how we feel when people don't keep us updated. B)

    B) Cool! :D

  9. The weather causes me joint discomfort. And it's changing. Check with your doctor and have him/she run a full panel. Maybe you might find a deficiency that can be easily corrected.

Have you tried going off dairy for several weeks? You might want to try that...and to add an other suggestion to that, it's flu season too.

Hope you feel better soon. :)

  10. All of this information is so interesting and thought provoking. One of the things that I have seen here is the if you react immediately, it's more of an indication that you have a wheat allergy. I always know within 15 minutes of ingesting gluten that I have been zapped so the statement that immediate reaction is a sign of wheat allergy would seem to fit. However, I have many many symptoms that fall into the Celiac, most notably that I am a type one diabetic and also that most of my father's side of the family, from my grandfather down to my grandchildren all seem to react to gluten. So which is it? Am I just super sensitive to gluten, or do I have a wheat allergy in addition to the celiac, and is that even possible?

I think you have a good feeling for what's what. It may very well be that you have an intolerance to gluten at some level, as well as a gluten allergy.

  11. Hi and Welcome!

I'm not a teen, but I will share my thoughts. ;)

A positive dietary response can be diagnostic as well as other tests. Can you discuss this with your doctor, who should be well informed of your recovery while on the diet. Other than that, there is no other means to diagnose without returning to a full gluten diet, and that doesn't seem like a healthy option.

As you may know, the Students with Disability Act, will help ensure that your college can meet your dietary needs.

  12. yes, I am aware of Publix. I'm not sure if I would be able to find a Whole Foods outside of Jacksonville (I'll be flying into JAX but am not planning on spending much if any time there). Tallahassee might have one, but outside of those 2 cities, I'd be a little surprised. Does anyone know of any dining in any of these areas?

CC - I would suggest you Google "gluten friendly restaurants" in the area of your choice. At that point you can contact those dining facilities and request further information.

Personal experience...I have none., but hope to someday.
