ARCHIVED Group Letter to Dr. Fine

    I think I answered Gentleheart's question.
  2. https://www.celiac.com/gluten-free/lofivers....php/t8494.html Here is another thread regarding low cholesterol. It's a bit dated (2005), but the information may be somewhat current.
  3. I do not think that there is a connection between high cholesterol and celiac diseasse. There may be a connection with a distressed liver. Gluten free processed food a often high in fat and can effect your cholesterol levels. What is your history of testing regarding Celiac If you have not already done so, a Celiac Panel with a return to the gltuen...

So not so far. I will let you know about the details after the holidays. If there is anyone in Northeastern North Carolina who would be interested, please contact...

    ARCHIVED Dr Has Me Confused

It might be a good idea to retest a Celiac Blood Panel to make sure that you are not getting any hidden gluten into your diet. Refractory Sprue is indeed rare. It would not be unusual for someone to take up to a couple years to heal. And, also for some, an occassional glutening could set healing back for a good while. It's good that your doctor...

ARCHIVED Group Letter to Dr. Fine

I was diagnosed through a biopsy before I knew anything about Celiac Disease. I have no personal experience with Enterolabs. I think it's a great letter! As a common discussion here, I look forward to Dr. Fine's response.
  8. Linda, The diet is very confusing in the beginning. Fear Not We can walk you through it step by step. I don't know what I would have done when I was first diagnosed several years ago. It's great to have someone hold your hand. Let us know Tuesday after your doctors appointment. And, don't let your doctor blow you off. Insist on the Celiac...
  9. Hello Veronica, Here is the Hagan Daz site. This will list the ingredients for every flavor of ice cream. I don't know if there is a gluten free listing from Hagan Daz. You can also e-mail the company. Open Original Shared Link I hope you enjoy your holiday to the US.
  10. Linda Welcome!!! As you can see, this is a great site with the best information around. Here is the link again, that happygirl listed. Copy this information and take it to your doctor on Tuesday: Open Original Shared Link Insist on the full Celiac Blood Panel as listed above and keep eating gluten until your endoscopy is completed. ...

  13. It's a lot to take in, trust me!!! We have members with different levels of sensitivity. In the beginning, a good thought is "if in doubt, don't". Keep your diet simple. And, add new things slowly and deliberately.
  14. We all have our trials. Some seem to have more than their share. I hope your friend's youth and strength can carry him through this tough time. Dear friends like yourself can help hold him up and offer than strength. Hugs to you, your friends, your friend and his family. Don't loose HOPE!
  15. Yes, I am aware of this. Do a search here and get some additional information on McD's FF - there's a lot.
  16. Hello and Welcome! You might have an allergy to wheat and perhaps a gluten sensitivity. Celiac can be diagnosed by a Serologic Blood Panel: Antigliadin antibodies (AGA) both IrA and IgG Antiendomysial antibodies (EMA) - IgA Anti-tissue transglutaminase antibodies (tTG) - IgA Total IgA level. Generally, a good test is a positive...
  17. It's not the amount of gluten that makes you sick, it's the autoimmune reaction to the gluten which makes your body attack itself.

    ARCHIVED Can I Cheat?

The potential risks could be life threatening eventually. No, you won't die from a piece of cake or slice of pizza. If you are officially diagnosed with Celiac, it's an autoimmune disorder. It's not the amount of gluten that will hurt you, it the fact that the gluten make your body attack itself, thereby causing damage. You may not be symptomatic...
  19. Just wanted to add that the Celiac Associations consider McD's fries and hashbrowns to be safe for Celiac to consume. The McD's website does indicate wheat, but the processing is said to eliminate the danger for Celiac. With that said, some do, some don't. I do. There is a number of previous thread regarding McD's French Fries and you can find...
  20. This is a personal choice. Some very sensitive celiacs may respond to the chance of possible cross contamination during the manufacturing process. Frito/Lay products mentioned here frequently, although some contain no gluten, many here react. On the other hand, it often is a CYA statement. Due to the fact that many companies do not have the resources...
  21. Well LynsiMarie, it's nice to meet you! And you most certainly DO have a full house. Let us know how your test come out!

ARCHIVED Group Letter to Dr. Fine

Just a little note ....I think if you choose to use www.celiac.com in your letter, it might be best to get a "release" from Scott Adams, owner of the site. He has proprietary rights to the site.
  23. Your brother might be busy with other preparations. Ask him how to reach the caterer and contact them yourself. Check and see if they can prepare a separate meal without gluten (au jus or seasonings) plain veggies or whatever is on the menu. It won't be as good, but it won't make you sick. I always feel better when I am not depending upon other interpretations...
