Lisa replied to jenkay's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Welcome Jen, Migraines can be a common symptom for Celiac, gluten intolerance or allergy. There is bountiful information on this site. Take a walk around and if we can help you in any way, let us know. ARCHIVED Casein Intolerance Linked To Gluten Intolerance
Lisa replied to moldlady's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Hummm....why does this sound vaguely familiar to me. Someone, a while back seemed to imply the same thing, but I can't think who it might have been. But, I'll work on it. ...in the mean time, I hope no one takes this seriously. -
ARCHIVED What Should I Ask The Doctor? (about Endoscopy)
Lisa replied to MelissaJ80's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Ask for 6 to 8 samples from various places to biopsy. Don't worry, you won't remember a thing and it's painless. Take a friend with you. You won't remember the conversation with the Doctor post proceedure. -
ARCHIVED Butter
Lisa replied to hrly169's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications

ARCHIVED Finally Have My Panel Test Results In Hand
Lisa replied to castor's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I am not good at interpreting test, but perhaps this will help: Table 1: Serologic tests for celiac disease--pitfalls Serology Comment AGA Relatively non-specific Anti-EMA Highest overall sensitivity and specificity, but poor sensitivity in patients with partial villous atrophy Anti-tTG Sensitivity and specificity not equivalent to anti... -
ARCHIVED Could I Have Caused The Test Results To Be False?
Lisa replied to bizzymomof5's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I don't know how old your daughter is, but the celiac panel is highly unreliable for children under the age of five. -
ARCHIVED Thanks So Much For This Info!
Lisa replied to LadyMac's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
We are glad that we can be of some help. Hopefully, you will have a resolution to your problems soon. -
From my experience: You can read about a product that is gluten free on this site.* You can look at a shelf label that states a product is gluten free. You can learn from your cousin's second wife about a gluten free product. You can trust a hourly paid customer service rep to inform you on a gluten free product. You can order at a restaurant...

Yes, the menu is limited, but it is a gluten free menu and I shall not complain. BUT, your gluten free meal is only as good as the employees that handle it. I have found the employees at Chilli's to be mighty slack in their concern. Cross contamination could be a big player here. I am sure that others have had a good experience, but do be cautious...

You are among good company! Once you master the gluten free diet and gluten is removed, then you can hear some other voices of issues. It's often recommended to you illiminate dairy along with gluten. Try to give up dairy for a month or two. After some time, I easily reintroduced dairy and I have no problem now. It might also be helpful...

ARCHIVED Dr. Says There Is No Genetic Test?
Lisa replied to CRym's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Sounds like there is a communication problem between your family doctor and the GI. After your consultation, you made it clean that he was to take samples for Celiac Disease -- and he did not biopsy that area. Uh, I would get my money back. Unfortunately, your story is one of thousands that I have read here. Many of us have learned to be our own advocates... -
I think that psychological effect of smelling gluten can make you feel queasy. But, you can't get the autoimmune response from smelling gluten, unless you inhale-ingest gluten.

To all those among us who have lost family and friends to the attacks on 9-ll, I wish you peace of mind and wonderful memories of those who are no longer with us. We will never forget.

ARCHIVED The Funny Pages - Tickle Me Elbow - The Original
Lisa replied to TriticusToxicum's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I was also watching the Today Show. I was worried about so many people, including which airlines hit the towers, Pentagon and Pennsylvania. It was very surreal looking up in the skies and seeing NO planes, when they have been so much a part of our lives. We had a Polish exchange student at the time and her panicked father called. -
I would think it very unlikely. You could be getting ill from grimmy little or big hands or crumbs from the food court.

ARCHIVED Isn't Baking Soda And Powder Gluten Free?
Lisa replied to Bellamia's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Both are gluten free, but so are broccoli and carrots. I believe it's called "jumping on the bandwagon". I suppose that some brands could have some additives. But pure baking soda and powers do not contain gluten. -

ARCHIVED Reaction Time?
Lisa replied to emat's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You will learn that everyone is different. Some react rather quickly and some react 24 or more hours later. At my sickest, I believe it took about 20 minutes. Now, if I do react, it might take about 24 hours. A lot depends on healing. The numbness is called peripheral neuropathy and it can be caused by autoimmune diseases, diabetes and alcoholism... -

ARCHIVED Is "glutenin" Safe For Celiacs?
Lisa replied to ElseB's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Yasmin is listed as gluten free below. With this information and information from the company, I would consider your BC safe. Open Original Shared Link -
Gluten can not be absorbed through the skin, but the flour dust can be inhaled and create problems for you. If you have a gluten allergy, it may be an issue. I would think that the dust from the flour would be everywhere in your kitchen and contaminate everything near. Maybe you can buy some good homemade bakery goodies for your son.

ARCHIVED What's The Deal With Maltodextrin?
Lisa replied to Angeldp777's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I would like to see the documentation for your statement. It is FDA LAW that should Maltodextrin be derived from a wheat sourse that it MUST be listed as "Maltodextrine (wheat)", in the United States. -
