ARCHIVED Should I Test My Son If My Results Come Back Positive?
Lisa replied to SAHM2one's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
SAHM, The blood tests are not as reliable as we would like and children under the age of five indicate a much higher rate of unreliability. I can't walk in your shoes, but if he is under the average growth for his age, you might want to consider a trial gluten free diet to see if he can play catch-up. -

Gosh, Jess...I haven't heard the word "divan" in YEARS and in Nikki's case quite appropriate... The divan in this sense has been commonly known in Europe certainly since about the middle of the 18th century. It was fashionable, roughly speaking, from 1820 to 1850, wherever the romantic movement in literature penetrated. All the boudoirs of that generation... -

ARCHIVED Natural Flavorings And Modified Food Starch
Lisa replied to SAHM2one's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Welcome! OK, here's the scoop... Modified Food Starch, in the US, is generally derived from corn. Should it be derived from wheat, by law, it will be listed as Modified Food Starch (wheat) or wheat will be listed on the ingredient listing. Natural Flavors can hide gluten. Many time it would be wise to call the company to see if barley, rye or malt... -

However, a company representative at Sonic's toll-free number verbally gave the following list of gluten-free menu items: Bacon Breakfast sausage patty Hamburger, no bun Hotdog, no bun Sliced American cheese Shredded cheddar cheese...

ARCHIVED Cleansing After gluten-free
Lisa replied to glutenfreegirl's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
If you are dealing with constipation, one flush won't fix the problem. I would increase fiber and fluids (naturally or with suppliments) and try to get to the bottom of your issue. I personally feel that many flushings/cleansings can be dangerous without the advise from a MD. -

Good morning everyone! Here's a cute funny and Bev, you can relate to this one! Teachers are going to love this one!! At Penn State University, there were four sophomores taking chemistry and all of them had an "A" so far. These four friends were so confident that, the weekend before finals, they decided to visit some friends and have... -
ARCHIVED What Is Going On With My Feet!
Lisa replied to Beth in NC's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Beth, make sure that you are not altering your anxiety meds too quickly. Often times the withdrawal effect can be very similar to what you are describing with the "small electrical currents". The pins and needle effect can be caused by peripheral neuropathy, which can be associated with diabetes as well as autoimmune responses. Hope you can find... -
ARCHIVED Sucrose/lactose Intolerance?
Lisa replied to still.joyful's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Yes, especially dairy. Often you can reintroduce it when healing has occurred. Many people here do have other intolerance's. I would tackle the gluten first due to the potential of intestinal (and other things) should you have Celiac Disease. -
Hi Charity and welcome! This is a great site. The best thing you can do now is to read, read, read here and many here are available for questions. I would start out with a food journal and document everything that you eat and what if any reaction you have. Keep things simple like meats, seafood, potatoes, rice, veggies and fruit. Limit your seasoning...

Yup, you can call or stop in during off hours and sit down and talk to the chief who might offer you several options. Choices are good! -
ARCHIVED Protocol At High End Restaurants?
Lisa replied to Live4Hiking's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
First, I would purchase some Triumph Dining Cards and carry them with you everywhere. They are laminated cards in several languages that describes Celiac and what precautions need to be made to accommodate you. Secondly, after your party sits and perhaps ordered drinks, I would excuse yourself and talk to the manager, who then will confer with the chief... -

I missed the SOY Pudding. Like Phyllis, I have never seen that product. I would be interested in what the company reply is. Good for you for calling. -
ARCHIVED Kozy Shack Soy Pudding
Lisa replied to rothchild's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I eat they all the time. Distant memory recalls that hydrolyzed wheat protein, is when the offending protein is removed during the process, rendering it gluten free. You need to ask Irish Dave for the confirmation, though. Is Kozy Shack -

ARCHIVED The Eggs, The Milk Or Both
Lisa replied to artselegance's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
If you have intestinal damage due to Celiac, any food will bother you until you are gluten free long enough that some healing can take place. It's often recommended that you eliminate milk/dairy for several weeks until you can heal. For the time being keep your meal simple and be careful about cross contamination with used toasters, wooden spoons, scratched... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Before Blood Tests
Lisa replied to ClyK's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yes, return to gluten to be tested. The blood testing and biopsies are not as accurate as we would like and certainly not eating gluten could further add to that inaccuracy. A gluten diet for a couple of months would help reek havoc to show positive antibodies. If you are unable to do that, a positive dietary response is also considered a diagnosis,... -

These are the blood test that I hope you had: Anti-gliadin antibodies (AGA) both IgA and IgG Anti-endomysial antibodies (EMA) - IgA Anti-tissue transglutaminase antibodies (tTG) - IgA Total IgA level Can you give us your blood work results? An endoscopy exam and biopsy would be helpful if your doctor suspects Celiac. -
ARCHIVED Newly Diagnosed?
Lisa replied to gfwarrior's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Currently there are three ways to diagnose Celiac: 1. Positive Blood Panel for Celiac 2. Positive Biopsy 3 Positive Dietary Response Either one of these test can be conclusive. Many people here are self diagnosed by positive dietary response and they are quite comfortable with that conclusion. You can begin the diet and if you resolve... -
ARCHIVED Newly Diagnosed?
Lisa replied to gfwarrior's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Welcome to the Club! There are no false positives in either the blood panel or biopsies, only false negatives. You will find that most of us here have to educate out doctors. An example of that is that it takes over 11 years for a diagnosis of Celiac. Biopsies can be hit and miss certainly not conclusive. It depends where and how many samples... -
ARCHIVED Pamela's Cookies - What Gives? (i'm New To gluten-free)
Lisa replied to ScrapHappy's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Welcome! Five days is a very short time, if you have had any damage or irritation for that matter. If you do have a compromised insides any foods could give your heartburn until it has healed. You might want to limit your diary intake for a month or so until that healing takes. Gluten free for Dummies is a good start. After that, start on... -
