  1. Lol, I'm over 40 and I still have to worry about the fact I put my fingers in my mouth (flaky lips, itchy face...etc)! I just wanted to say that hand sanitizer in no good for getting gluten off - you need soap, water and some rubbing action for that - hand sanitizer just kills bacteria and moves the gluten around......sorry I couldn't reassure you.
  2. Could you try wearing a face mask - like the particle masks people wear when they are doing dusty DIY/jobs?
  3. My first thought on this is B12 - I'm very surprised your dietician didn't mention it. Since it is mainly found in animal products, it is a special concern for vegetarians and if I remember correctly, Marmite was about the only rich source of B12 to be found in a vegetarian diet (other than through pills or fortified foods)......It is also one of the vits...
  4. Well, I may be biased.....but CC'd nuts have got me BAD more times than anything should (I eat whole unprocessed foods 95% of the time) - When they are CC'd they seem to be REALLY CC'd, IME. I wouldn't touch them if packed in the same factory as...unless they said they had special measures in place to stop cross contamination......really good special measures...
  5. Ooooo, ice cream. Nope! I can't do dairy (or maybe I should, MIL would never come back! Lol), and I refuse to sit and watch everyone else eat it. Got it sorted now though....it's the coconut thingys I mentioned to Lisa - done, sorted. We can all eat the same - no pitying looks for me!
  6. Thanks for the suggestion, while that does sound delish, I'm in the UK and I've never found any Betty crocker gluten-free mixes here, only the gluteny ones and I still have a long list of intolerances which would rule me out.....I wanted to make the point that we could all eat the same meal, with "normal" food (i.e. not speciality gluten-free). I usually...
  7. Since there's no special occasion, I thought I'd keep it simple/easy too. I thought roast chicken, roast potatoes (sweet potatoes for me) and veg.......but oh no, I never even thought about dessert!
  8. I just try to avoid the WHOLE thing....really, I had to put up with personal questions about my weight and diet for 5 years before I went gluten-free, I'm really sick and tired of the responses.....and the look of pity - OMG! So, I avoid "food socialising" as much as possible and have become a hermit.....yeah, just about. But now, you folks have something...

    I'm Sorry

I think I know exactly how you feel........and I think you know these feelings will go away soon when you get completely over that last glutening. Mine bites me in the bum like that too! xxx
  10. Brain fog/neurological symptoms are the hardest to cope with. A few hours after glutening I can barely speak. My mind is halted, I can't think, remember ANYTHING or make basic decisions....my coordination goes completely (I walk into door frames, burn/cut myself when prepping food - smacked myself in the face with a door REALLY hard a while ago, resulting...
  11. Nope, not paranoia, just a healthy desire not to get sick AGAIN......and we all know what that's like!!! I kept trying to quantify the risk.. Anyway, good, so wasn't losing it yesterday.......just a bit peeved that I've glutened my crockpot and didn't want to believe it yesterday, lol. Off to go look up the price of a new insert, thanks.
  12. hI bartful, Do you think so even though the pot is quite new, and I got it after going gluten-free? (Did you miss this in the OP, or in your experience do you think that cooking CC'd food is now enough to make it gluteny forever?) - sorry, I just want to be clear and interested in your opinion. In any case, I still don't trust it............ I looked...
  13. ha ha ha, yes....3 eeks! I'm like I was hit by a truck for the first 3 days, then each day I get to feel a shade better, after a week I'm back to about half my mental powers, but it's 3 weeks until I'm 100%. I notice the mental part the most because it really affects my job - my whole job is thinking/writing and problem solving. If I attempt to work in...
  14. Thanks everyone, I've been reading your replies throughout the day. but couldn't muster the brain power to communicate, lol. Feeling clear at the moment, so here goes: dilettantesteph - I agree that an elimination diet is a good way to weed out problems....I've already done that to find the intolerances listed in my signature....and I always revert back...
  15. Not sure about the random withdrawal....thought I'd left that far behind..... Yes, there are plenty of scratches on the crock pot....... I don't think it can be more intolerances......I already have plenty! I'd purposely made the stew out of safe ingredients because of a recent glutening...(the cc'd beans), so it might be flare of symptoms from that......
  16. Hmmm, I've always thought chicken was one of my safe foods..... And, yes, I already gave the pot a thorough clean - as far as one can with non-stick...
  17. So, I'm nearly 8 months gluten-free.....and I am STILL finding new ways to gluten myself, grrrrrr! My question is: if I have been (unknowingly), soaking and cooking CC'd dried beans (I know this for sure, now...after many mysterious glutenings and finding they are packed on the same lines as gluten products inc. wheat flour!) in my slow cooker, which...
  18. I thought coffee was ALWAYS safe, but learned the hard way that it can be CC'd in the same way that anything else can be! Every time we went to the in-laws, we refused all food and I would volunteer to make the drinks so that I could inconspicuously wash the cups......and yet every time I would end up with all my glutening symptoms. In CSI mode, lol, we...
  19. I feel your frustration....bearing in mind I am stiil mind-fogged after a cc issue.....I would like to suggest that you donate your "spare" endo to the person at the derm's office, so that she can "see what's going on"!
  20. Well, I'd certainly serve protein containing foods with it. E.g. Homemade beef/turkey bolognese, a piece of pan-fried salmon, or a piece of chicken. Or I even like it sprinkled with roasted sunflower and pumpkin seeds - one day.......I would love to try something creamy or cheesey, but I can't do dairy, yet, lol. Is that what you mean?
  21. OMG, I love this thread! I've done just about all those things....even the "going out in odd shoes" stunt. I usually have cuts and burns on my hands/forearms from cooking and luckily the bruises/black eyes fade pretty quickly after falling down the stairs or SMACKING my face on a door. I'd like to add, nearly knocked myself out getting out of the car....
  22. I know this topic is old, that is the reason I sent an email to check the current status....... When I got this reply, I was (and still am) suffering the aftermath of an accidental glutening, so I an particulary irritable, however, I think once I'm feeling better, I'll still find their reply useless and condescending! Really, since I told them I have Coeliac...
  23. Awwwww, this happened to me too.........I know exacty how you feel, I think I'm about 1 step in front of you. I'm the sort of person who cooks everything from scratch, or so I thought.....so was amazed at how much gluteny processed stuff I had to throw out. And just when I thought I had it cracked, I poisoned us (me: celiac, hubby: has DH) with Worcester...
  24. With the benefit of hindsight..... Me: I'm so constipated, I only go once per week and it's like trying to pass a house brick. Doctor (without asking me anything about my diet): eat more wholemeal bread. I was already eating 8+ slices per day! Next visit.... Me: I have terrible heartburn and keep getting acid/vomit coming up into my mouth, still have...
  25. I always say that I have celiac disease and so many allergies or intolerances that it's impossible to buy ANYTHING ready-made and that I only eat food that I've made myself. Then, depending on the person, I might add: to save you the hassle of ringing an ambulance when I puke on the carpet, stop breathing and go unconscious. That usually does the trick...
