  1. Public schools in Canada don't provide lunch. In fact, we are 1.2km from the school - 2 houses inside the "walk zone" even though it's a 15 minute walk for my sloooooow boys (10 if they walk quickly) and we have to pay to allow them to stay at school during lunch. If you're in the walk zone you are expected to go home for lunch or you pay a fee to stay. The...
  2. It said Robin Hood Free Meetinghouse's Frozen Cinnamon Buns. Robin Hood is a big flour manufacturer. Why would he and his band of merry men bake gluten-free cinnamon buns - they are in the business of selling gluteny flour. Great if it's true, but I'm skeptical.
  3. Hi All, I have a two day drive coming up in a couple of weeks. I need to know if Kinnikinnick buns can be kept in a cooler for 2 days and then re-frozen, or will I need to keep them in the fridge after that? There are only a couple of stores on the Island that carry Kinnikinnick products, and they are all about an hour or 90 min. away so if I can pack...
  4. Sounds like you've overheard my older son asking for "extra gluten sprinkled on" his supper . He has no problem eating gluten free - all our suppers are gluten-free except for pasta, pizza and hamburgers. Ty gets his own noodles, pizza and his own bun. Big brother just gets huffy when we can't stop at any old place to grab something to eat because there...
  5. My younger son is the only one in our family with celiac. He didn't have any symptoms either, except anemia and he was at the lowest percentile for height and weight, but was still the same height as many of his classmates in the couple of months before diagnosis. He has no problem sticking to the diet - I hope that continues when he's a teenager. I also...
  6. Hi All, We're heading out to the Stampede late this afternoon and I know that Ty will want either cotton candy or a snow cone. Thank God he thinks "Those Little Donuts" are disgusting (and so do I) because Dad and Walker will want some for sure. I'll be packing some muffins, popcorn and other snacks, but he'll want to eat something from the grounds, too...
  7. I'll bet you ONE MILLION DOLLARS that it's the Tide. I tried a sample of Tide that came in the mail one time. I washed sheets with it and after two hours I booted my husband out of bed so I could change the sheets. I'd scratched my legs so much they were practically bleeding. Also, everyone I've ever known with excema has it ease up a bit as soon as they...
  8. The website is Open Original Shared Link the website only links you to her email, but it's worth a shot to email for dairy info rather than drive all the way to the store to be disappointed. The email is: judy@judygfoods.com Good luck, I hope you'll be able to eat it.
  9. Who's Paula Dean? BTW I am a mediocre cook/baker at best, but since Ty's been gluten-free my husband has complimented my cooking quite a bit. He has 3 new favourite recipes since I've been hunting for gluten-free stuff.
  10. Yesterday morning we took Ty to the Calgary Celiac Association Stampede Breakfast. We had gluten-free/lactose free pancakes, Spolumbo sausages and juice. At the breakfast was a guy serving up samples of gluten-free pizza. I got the impression it was a pretty new company "Judy G Gluten Free". They sell little pizzas about 9" or 10" in three flavours. Black...
  11. Try chilling the cookie dough for about half an hour before you bake them. The first time I made cookies they spread out and all melted into one giant crispy cookie. We ate them anyway, but the next time I chilled the dough first and then they came out like real cookies.
  12. No, I don't eat it. My six year old gets a box to split with his big brother once a year. They each end up with three pieces. Then they don't get any until next summer or unless someone at a soccer/hockey game or birthday is handing it out with loot bags.
  13. This may sound weird, but how do you get the card back? Do you say up front that you need it back or is it printed on the card someplace? We don't have these cards yet. We don't go out to eat too often, and when we do we sort of stick to the same couple of places that we know my 6 year old likes. I think the card would come in handy for him when he's older...
  14. Here's my reply: The author’s comment “no gluten, no dairy” is completely out of line. I am sure the author is aware that wheat(gluten) and dairy are two of the top eight allergens. Would she consider “no peanuts” fussy? My son’s health is my first priority and you bet I’m “fussy” if it means I’m keeping gluten out of his system and maintaining his hea...
  15. All right, I guess I'll try it again. I used Fleischmann's quick rise instant yeast. I guess that's bad? I'll try again with a different kind. I think I'll wait until it's a bit cooler though. It's super hot here and I'd rather not have the oven on in this heat. I'll try on a rainy day.
  16. Today I called the 800# for General Mills in Canada to check on Betty Crocker fruit roll ups. The lady who answered the phone said that if there were any gluten containing ingredients that they would be clearly labelled as wheat, rye, oats, barley and in addition there would be a bold may contain: wheat or a contains: wheat. I said that I know that sometimes...
  17. Thanks in advance for help with the bread. I didn't try it for hamburger buns, I was just wondering if it would work. I used the perforated french bread pan, and the dough (batter...whatever) didn't rise very high, but overflowed the edges of the pan. I guess I'm trying to say it rose enough to overflow the sides, and get all droopy, but didn't get high....
  18. I tried the submarine sandwich bread and it was a disaster. I popped it in the freezer and will use it for breadcrumbs. I followed the directions carefully. Maybe it was too hot/cold/humid/something that day. Should I try it again? Am I the only one who buggered it up?
  19. Mamatide - I knew that the Top Dogs were no good for you and your daughters, I was actually replying to Skoki Mom who was looking for plain gluten-free hot dogs. Sorry about the confusion!
  20. But is it gluten-free?
  21. Open Original Shared Link My son has the hoodie in the link above.
  22. We use the Maple Leaf Top Dog all beef hot dogs. Schneiders has a may contain disclaimer. If you buy Maple Leaf get them from Walmart or Superstore, and check the coupon board at Superstore. They are beastly expensive for hot dogs...over $5 for 12. (Maybe I'm just cheap. )
  23. Sorry, Carrie, we use Maple Leaf Top Dog hot dogs. What about looking for hot dogs manufactured by Mitchell or Olympic? I think they are gluten free. Mitchell's says they don't "hide" ingredients. You'll have to double check gluten-free status though, because I can't remember, and I'm at work so I don't have my list handy.
  24. I don't have my email, but the Slurpee people told me they were okay. I think most flavours should be fine because it's pretty much pop syrup and slushy water. I never drink them. Too sweet. I'll take a sip now and then, but I've only ever had a whole kids size one once in my life. Best advice - if you have an upset stomach, DO NOT mix orange and pink and...
