  1. Yes, but it's probably better than pop. It's like having a treat cereal once a week. It's a treat beverage. 90% of the time he drinks milk. The odd time a small glass of pop and during school it's usually wildberry juice which is "juice" not "punch" or "beverage".
  2. My doctor only hands out stickers, never suckers. The one day when Ty was at the foot doctor, the nurse asked me if he could have a sucker. I said no, you probably don't have an ingredient list, and I'll need to check the ingredients. She said, yeah, it sucks to check ingredients, my daughter was just diagnosed with Celiac. Yes, I said, that's what Ty has...
  3. Oh. That was going to be my answer. I'll say that if I were gluten-free I'd be glad I wouldn't have to give up Wavy Lays and Kraft Philly Garlic dip.
  4. I have images in my mind of CarlaB and MorganB at opposite ends of the couch with their laptops communicating only through the Rachelville thread, and never actually looking up to say hello in real life.
  5. Thanks! I was pretty sure, but thought I'd best double check.
  6. Is Five Alive gluten-free? It says natural flavours, but it's by Minute Maid which is Coke, so it should be fine, right?
  7. Congratulatons! My son just had his one year gluten-free anniversary also.
  8. Hi Babe, welcome to the board. Just a quick note to say that if you are in Canada Lea & Perrins is NOT gluten-free. Only in the States. I won't bother to repeat everyone else's good advice. The kids can be tested by a blood test. There are 5 tests in the panel. My son only had two but they were overwhelmingly positive. The only concern about testing...
  9. Okay Cheri ~ I thought that was it...I do have all your notes tucked away. I have to get organized one day. Maybe when the kids are back in school.
  10. P.A. Production Assistant. It mostly consists of counting backwards. 30. 15. 10, 9, 8, etc. "super in" "lose super". A super is the thingy that has the guys name on who is talking. So if Andrea B is talking about reading labels for 4 hours her first trip to the grocery after diagnosis, a graphic would come on underneath Andrea's face that says: Andrea B/Recently...
  11. OH! Now we're spying on people? I can't figure out how to do two quotes, but I hope the dingoes are friendly. I had Eggos for breakfast. (I did brush my teeth!) Mostly I sneak gluten when Ty's not around. He doesn't usually seem to care, but I try not to wave it in his face. His brother on the other hand...gluten with extra gluten sprinkled on top,...
  12. Hmm. Not sure about that. I spoke to the owner the second or third day after it opened and he said maybe they would start allowing kids, but just then they weren't letting kids in. Call them and double check.
  13. Cheri - I use the Bette Hagman recipe but cut back on the cinnamon. Did you give me your bread recipe? That's the Twin Valley/Hagman sorghum, right? I'll give it another shot. Mechelle Annie's Mom - The name of the cookbook is Incredible Edible Gluten-Free Food for Kids by Sheri L. Sanderson. Open Original Shared Link .com/gp/product/189062728...ce...
  14. It's called Splitt Pourhouse & Grill at 7746 Elbow Drive S.W. (about 5 blocks south of Glenmore on Elbow Dr.) ph: (403) 212-0304. Owner's name is Jeff. If you do a search on this site for Splitt, there will be a couple of threads with reviews, etc. We haven't been because my gluten-free son is only 6 and so far they aren't letting kids in because...
  15. Tomorrow (Friday) will be Ty's gluten-free anniversary. It's been one year. I'm unsure how it's going. He never really had any outward symptoms - irritibility, I suppose, but he does have a big brother, so being irritable can be part of that... He had gained 6 pounds in the past year, and depending on how accurate our scale is, just lost 2. He's gotten...
  16. A couple of years ago, I decided to "re-learn" to skate so I could mess around with Walker at the rink and help him learn to skate. Before I decided I'd get a stick and try to play hockey with him, I was at the sporting goods shop and I asked the fella if I should get hockey skates or figure skates. Him: If you want to fall on your face - get figure skates...
  17. Kalanfan - I assume you're from Canada? Alberta? If you're near Edmonton or Calgary, look for potato starch at T&T Asian market or any other Asian market. Potato flour is not interchangeable with potato starch flour. I don't know why they have the word flour after starch. They are quite different.
  18. I hope you have a great week with your daughter. I'm sure Matt will have a blast at camp. At my house I get: Why is the sky blue or why is the sun warm. I usually answer with a catch-22. Because it's not green or because it's not cold.
  19. When my (then) 5.5 year old had his upper endoscopy I told my boss he was having "surgery". She is the most unsupportive manager I have ever encountered. Since the hospital only did the procedure on Thursdays, and I work late Thursday afternoon (4 - midnight), I booked the day off a month in advance. She still gave me a hard time and never asked anything...
  20. Looking good Molly! Did you get a haircut? I love it! I'm just passing through Rachelville, I didn't see anything about Moms of gluten-free boys being allowed. Also, what is Auxigro?
  21. So far, Ty's the only one with celiac in our family. My husband, older son, my Mom and I were all tested and all negative. These were not gene tests, but I do know that I have HLA-B8 and HLA-B44 because about 15 years ago I signed up to be a bone marrow donor, and they did HLA-typing and they notified me of 3 HLA types. I think the other one was HLA-A9, I...
  22. What about New York Fries? Are they gluten-free? I think they are, but maybe only available in Canada.
  23. I've never seen it in our stores. Maybe they keep it in the "pricey" section of the freezer. I'll be on the lookout for sure.
  24. Here's a recipe for Sugar Cookies. I neither eat nor bake Sugar Cookies, but they are a staple at my mother-in-law's house at Christmas. She made them, iced & decorated them (checking all labels, of course) and says you can't tell the difference between these and the usual ones she makes. Gluten Free Sugar Cookies â…“ cup margarine â…“ cup shortening 1 ...
  25. Excellent server of the day story: We are in Nanaimo, BC right now, visiting my parents. We went for a drive up Island and packed a picnic lunch. On the way home we stopped at this little ice cream shop called Whiskey Creek. They had Island Farms ice cream. My mom had emailed Island Farms a few weeks ago and so we knew which flavours were gluten-free. First...
