All right then, you're off the hook. I'd heard "interesting" as a euphemism for "ugly" so many times with my dog that it rubs me the wrong way sometimes. Person to my husband (gushing): Oh your dog is beautiful! Husband (beaming): Thank you. Person to me (with a tone I can't decsribe - maybe horror): Oh. Your dog is interesting too. My dog now gets...

Interesting? That's what people used to say about my dog instead of coming right out and saying they thought he was ugly. Of course he was beautiful. DingoGirl might have appreciated him - he was 1/2 blue heeler. Sorry Julie. I guess I was expecting something like "I hate bananas" or "looks yummy". I have a problem with "interesting". I don't mean to be...

ARCHIVED What's For Dinner Tonight?

Yesterday: Chicken Cordon Bleu with mashed potatoes and I had green beans almondine, not sure what the boys had for a veg. Probably corn. I was at work. Today: leftovers. -
ARCHIVED Kids Lunches
2Boys4Me replied to happy4dolphins's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
We aren't able to use the fridge or microwave. Other schools in our public school system have microwaves in the class and the supervisor helps the kids, but we have one supervisor for two (adjoining) classes, so how can one supervisor run a microwave for 50 kids? She can't. So no micros in the class and when I brought up using the microwave once or twice... -

Here's how it went with my son (entering grade two Sept. 5) all through grade one if someone offered him something. Him: Is it gluten-free? Them: Him: No thanks. Then he'd go to the teacher and get his treat bag from her desk and have one of his treats. She kept a bag in her desk with Envirokidz bars, Aero bars, Fruit to Go and Rockets. -
Oh. I have about 8,763,221 recipes to try already, so I suppose I don't need any more. Thanks, though.

Roger that. Tomorrow then. Now...spill your guts on the Big Book of Gluten Free Recipes. What's that?

No soy so no problem. Recipe section or here or pm? I'm at work right now, so I'm aftraid you'll have to wait until tomorrow when the boys are done with the computer so I can have a turn. FYI, it's from the Incredible Edible Gluten Free Food for Kids cookbook.

ARCHIVED Should Celiac Kids Be Entitled To Low-price Kids Meals?
2Boys4Me replied to johalex's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
There is an Italian place near us that our local celiac association recommends as being knowledgeable about celiac. The first time we went there after my son's diagnosis, the greeter fellow said that they always have rice vermicelli noodles on hand, or if we prefer, we can bring our own pasta and they will cook it. When my son ordered the gluten free rice... -
Excuse me Madame President. What CAN you have? I have a super easy fool-proof Banana bread recipe. It's fool-proof because every time I make it it turns out great. I don't want to post a recipe you can't try.

ARCHIVED Getting To Know You

1. FIRST NAME? Linda 2. WERE YOU NAMED AFTER ANYONE? According to my Dad I was named after his favourite mining pony on Cape Breton Island. I could have been Jumbo, Piney or Nancy. 3. WHEN DID YOU LAST CRY? Don’t remember. 4. DO YOU LIKE YOUR HANDWRITING? Sometimes. 5. WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE LUNCH MEAT? I don’t usually eat lunch meat, bu... -
Let me preface this by saying that I don't have celiac, and Ty hadn't been diagnosed when this happened, so I had never heard of brain fog. We had gone over to my MIL's house very briefly to drop something off before we continued with errands. It was in the summer, so my husband was at work, it was just me and the boys. I told my MIL what our errands were...

The Silly Yak one is from CafePress. Leah (Queen of Hearts) included a link in her post. Or, go to CafePress dot com and search gluten. The silly yak ones DON'T say Do Not Feed. They have a silly yak on the front and a description of Celiac disease on the back. My son has one. -

Beef & Broccoli stirfry with rice. If my printer had ink, I'd still do the month's worth of menus. I get the kids and we sit down and figure out our menu for the month. Then when someone complains about the meal I say I can't help it - it's on the menu. I need the printer to print the blank calendar, then we fill the meal in with pencil and tape it... -
Congrats on your new job Jessica! A couple of years ago, my older son (Walker) asked me if there was such a thing as superheroes. I said yes. He said who. I said: teachers, doctors, nurses, firefighters, police officers... Then he said I meant like Spiderman. Oh, then no.

Oh, all right. Will put it on my to try list. Mart - We love the banana bread and sloppy joes. My MIL made the sugar cookies and those were a big hit last Christmas. I use the dressing recipe for Potato salad as well. I didn't have much luck with the tortillas. I think they are called Mock Flour Tortillas or something. They turned out well, but we couldn... -

ARCHIVED Irish Heritage And Celiac's
2Boys4Me replied to Queen Serenity's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Hmmm. I thought I'd answered this before, but I guess not. Ty's got from my side: Irish (mostly) with a wee bit of Scottish and Welsh from his dad: more Irish, bit of English and on his paternal grandfather's side they aren't sure if it's Czech or Hungarian. They lived in Czechoslovakia but spoke Hungarian. We like to call ourselves Canadian though... -
ARCHIVED How Old? Celiac For How Long?
2Boys4Me replied to swittenauer's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I voted for Ty. He's 6 (& 3/4). He was 5 3/4 at diagnosis. His gluten-free anniversary was Aug. 18th. He was diagnosed because we were trying to find out why he was so tired all the time and was such a lightweight. I think he was about 25th percentile for height and below zero for weight if you agree that everyone should fit somewhere on a chart.... -

I'll bet my two boys wouldn't even try it because you've already noted that it looks gross. Looks gross=tastes gross at my house. I will admit that one time I made a beef stroganoff that looked NOTHING like the photo. The photo had creamy white sauce and mine was pink. I wouldn't even try it. I had a grilled cheese sandwich instead. I don't think my... -

With regard to the St. John's Wort: I have seen news reports that say St. John's Wort + birth control pills=miracle baby. You mentioned that there had been a failed vasectomy, so if you are on the pill, St. John's wort may lessen the effectiveness of it. The news story I saw was a couple of years ago, so I don't know if the chemistry of the pill has changed...
