  1. Not if you have Celiac Disease. If you have celiac disease, you must be 100% gluten-free. People with intolerances may have different thresholds, but the pathology is not the same as celiac disease. If you have celiac disease, you body will react to even the smallest amount of gluten. This is why you can't have cake on your birthday, for instance. So...
  2. I'm not familiar with the lab ranges myself, and US and Canadian labs can use different reference ranges, so I prefer not to comment! As well, I'm not a doctor, so I'm not qualified. However, if you have been told you tested negative on all 5 tests, I would take it as a negative. It is possible you are gluten intolerant or have a wheat allergy. That may...
  3. I am also O+, but something like 52% of the population is O+.

    ARCHIVED Tony Romas

Well, I am going to Tony Roma's for dinner tomorrow night I think. It's my birthday and I can get a free meal, lol. They tell me their sauces are gluten-free, so I figure ribs with a baked potato can't be too dangerous??? I don't think they marinade the ribs, I will have to ask on that one!!!
  5. Oh yes, I would die for some challah bread! I did see a website from NYC where you could get 2 loaves of challah for $16, and they would ship it for $10 within NYC. So, I'm figuring to get it to Calgary, I'd probably have to re-mortgage my house!
  6. Shall I send a cybercuff upside the head his way???/ I can see why it would piss you off. It could be mildly humerous......like once!!!
  7. I don't remember my dreams very well, but I know I've dreamt about the whole gluten-free thing. I vaguely remember a dream where I was shopping and reading all the labels and it was taking forever and they were turning the lights out in the store on me. What I *really* want to dream about is eating a Big Mac, and it tastes sooooo good! Then again...
  8. Doh! Sorry Monica, for calling you Monique!
  9. Monique, I use Clinique as well, so I e-mailed them and this is the reply I got: Thank you for your interest in Clinique. In response to your inquiry, the following products contain Gluten: Moisture In-Control Moisture On Call Moisture On Line 7 Day Scrub Cream Anti-Gravity Firming Lift Cream Repairwear Intensive Day Cream Repairwear Intensive...
  10. Good luck with your daughter. I have 2 girls ages 7 and 5, so I know how badly you feel when your child is ill or in pain. Because I conclusively have celiac disease, my girls were screened this past fall. False negatives are much more common in children under the age of 2. Because lab work is a little traumatic in children this age, my girls both were...
  11. I haven't tried that brand of bread, it is not as readily available as Kinnikinnick where I live. I just made my Thanksgiving turkey on Sunday (Canada, eh?), and I used the Kinnikinnick Italian white bread and was very pleased with the results. The texture is a little coarser than regular white bread, but I found it to be a very palatable substitute! I...
  12. Thanks Jen, I've never cooked with quinoa before. I do have some, though. You don't think it'll make my soup weird, eh?? lol What happens to it when you cook it? Does it just get softer, or does it turn to mush??
  13. Hi there! It is definitley possible to have damage and not have GI symptoms! I'm a case of this. I got screened because my sis was Dx with celiac disease. Well, I definitely have celiac disease on my bloodwork and my biopsy, and in fact I have substantial damage. I was pretty surprised because I've never really been sick with it a day in my life. Sure...
  14. Well, now I definitely have to get over there and get my membership!! I've been so friggin busy, I just keep forgetting!
  15. I would appreciate any imput from those who have been there. I was IBS for 27 years, me is one thing, my daughter is another.....ya know what I mean? <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
  16. Hey cooks, I'm making soup with left overs from my Thanksgiving turkey. My recipe calls for pot barley, which I'm obviously leaving out. What do you think might be a good substitute for it?? I already have carrots, onion, celery, tomatoes, lentils, rice, parsley, turkey meat and gluten-free pasta. Do you think I could just throw in extra rice or something...
  17. I also had scalloping of the duodenum, and my biopsy showed complete villious atrophy. It is similar to how the anti-endomysial antibodies are so specific for celiac disease, I asked my dr if anything else could cause that, and she told me no, that it was really only celiac disease that affected the villi like that. Actually, I'm not sure a wheat intolerance...
  18. I was under the impression that only celiac disease caused flattening, or destruction, of the villi. A lot of things can cause inflammatory processes, but it is the villi flattening that is the classic hallmark of celiac disease, and can only been seen on biopsy. My GI told me right after my scope my gut looked like celiac disease, but it was the pathology...
  19. I asked my GI about re-testing antibody levels. He didn't think there was much point, as antibody levels are not a good indicator of the extent of the disease. He said unless the go way up, they really don't tell you much. Like, if my antibody count dropped by half, for instance, it would not mean I had experienced 50% healing. I am probably getting scoped...
  20. Haaaaaa! You sound just like me! I had about 4.5 months between my initial blood work and my biopsy, so I totally went for it. I was also asymptomatic, so I figured if I was going down, may as well go down in flames! Besides, I told myself I wanted conclusive results, lol. So, I embarked on what I called the farewell tour, and this is what I ate........
  21. I seem to be the only one here who really couldn't care less about pizza and beer, lol. But, bring on the chow mein! There is this place in the lower mainland of BC called Hon's, gawd, I could eat everything on the menu, starting with the crispy fried chow mein noodles in the bird's nest!!!!
  22. Right, it's not an allergy! Just as the others said, I say it's an autoimmune disease, my body detects gluten as poison and destroys itself. I get odd looks sometimes, but oh well!
  23. Sorry your little one is feeling sick I think this is probably a situation when your DH sees now how ill she does get and he will probably watch her more closely in the future. Someimes these lessons are hard learned. Even a lot of adults here have posted how the temptation just got the best of them and they paid dearly for it later! Seems to be human...
  24. Being prone to cancre sores is one of the very few symptoms I actually have. I never thought of them as a problem, but I would definitely break out 2-3 times a year. I guess I just thought everyone got them??? I haven't had any since going gluten-free, but it's only been about 6 weeks. It will be interesting for me to see if I still get them. I often...
  25. Well you better be careful because you will have the single women with Celiac after you, lol!!! I just wanted to chime in and say it is possible to have celiac disease and have no clinical symptoms. I got tested simply because my sister was diagnosed. I consider myself very lucky actually, because I had the full-on work up and I don't have any of the...
