  1. I've been craving chinese food recently, so I tried this recipe that I found on Allrecipes Open Original Shared Link I cut the vinegar to 1 cup and used brown sugar instead of regular. It's so good! Super, super spicy, but sweet at the same time. Nancy
  2. I remember reading a paper about this. I'll try and find the link for it. I'm sure I've got it bookmarked somewhere. I know that a lot of my glutened symptoms are psych and neuro, so that has always made a lot of sense to me. If I get irritable and emotional, it's a pretty good indication that I've been glutened. But that's different from a doctor...
  3. {{{{Hugs}}}} Lisa... I wish I could make it better for you. No matter what, you've GOT to keep going on your career. Life has a way of making a path for things even if you can't see it now. If you give up on your career, you will always be dependant on your family. There is never a time in your life where you're less in control of things...
  4. Just reading that makes my stomach turn. {shudder} Nancy
  5. I still have a problem with this. I was also raised not to complain or ask for anything special and just be gracious and accepting of whatever was offered. Intellectually I know that most people are willing and more than happy to help others if asked nicely, but the thought of putting someone out of their way just mortifies me. There are a...
  6. When I called them on the phone a few weeks ago the lady said that there can be trace amounts of gluten and they don't consider it to be gluten-free. There have been a couple times where I ate a little bit of it very tentatively (because there isn't any gluten listed) and had no problems, but then tried it another time and got sick from it. What gf4life...
  7. I was sick every day for over a week after we got back from vacation a couple weeks ago. My in-laws stayed with our kids who are also gluten-free. They came over a couple days before to make sure they understood everything. Knew all about cross-contamination. Asked intelligent questions. No eye-rolling or sarcasm. Absolutely wonderful and willing to...
  8. I'm so glad you're feeling better! It's amazing isn't it? Nancy
  9. I should have mentioned that in the post. I thought I had said more before I posted it, but I got distracted and didn't realize how blunt I sounded. Rephrase: I'm going to email them and let them know that that's not appropriate .... if they're marketing this for people with a gluten intolerance. Normally, I wouldn't really pay much attention...
  10. I was looking at ediets for a friend who just got diagnosed with diabetes, and saw this. Open Original Shared Link BUT, they say that they include oats in it. I'm going to email them and let them know that that's not appropriate. It might be a step to more awareness though. Nancy
  11. Yep. Try the diet. I had negative blood tests and negative biopsy. The only "test" that was positive was the diet.
  12. I use Bob's Red Mill All Purpose gluten-free Flour. It works perfectly. Use it in the same measurements you did regular flour. I make all sorts of gravy and even bechamel / cheese sauces with it for mac and cheese and to go over veggies. Nancy
  13. I've got to add my vote for Ener-G. I get the one's called Wheat-Free Crackers. I buy them by the case. As we speak, my kids are eating Cheddar Easy Cheese on them, which is their favorite snack. I use them for just about everything. They're very much like Carr's Water Crackers and I use them the same way. Nancy
  14. Open Original Shared Link is the one that I know of. I'm not sure how accurate it is, but maybe your girlfriend could help with the details? Nancy
  15. Hate to mention it but glad you happened to say something. Play Dough has wheat in it. If I remember right it pretty much IS wheat... Welcome to the world of hidden gluten. Nancy
  16. Everyone with celiac or gluten intolerance has different reactions. The tests can only tell you so much because there are often false negatives. The only way to really know if you have a problem with gluten or not is to give the gluten-free diet a shot. I had negative blood tests and negative biopsy, but I gave it a shot and my life completely changed...
  17. Okay, how many moms wondered (just wondered...) if their kids would wake up if they checked them for kneecaps... Nancy
  18. Just know that literally everything has been discussed here. Now that we're gluten-free, we're all happy, healthy normal adults who wonder about this stuff. Pretty much the only thing intimate to worry about is kissing. Everything else is totally fine. Other than that, like gfp said, normal life with cross contamination is what gets you. ...
  19. Wait... You can play solitaire with real cards...?
  20. Just reminds me of a report I did in Jr. High on George Washington. He died of "chronic diarrhea" and had wooden teeth. Hmm... Nancy
  21. Oh good. I wasn't the only one crying... {sniff} Nancy
  22. I haven't seen it yet, but I went to the website and they have an article. Not sure if this is a transcript or not. Open Original Shared Link
  23. I'm glad I checked. It comes on at 5:30 here too (Sacramento, CA). Nancy
  24. How cool!!! I wonder how many new people will be finding this site over the next few days... Nancy
  25. Ooooo.... I've got chills too. Nancy
