ARCHIVED Tiredofdoctors - Lynne
Nantzie replied to mouse's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
This is true. You can, however, put a link in the "Personal Statement" area of your profile page. Not that I'm suggesting that you should look at Vincent's profile, or Nini's, or flagbabyds, or broncobux, or anyone else's to see if they've got something interesting going on offsite. This is something I really wish Scott would change, but a lot of people... -

ARCHIVED Zelnorm (ibs Drug) Pulled Off The Market For Deaths
Nantzie replied to Fiddle-Faddle's topic in Publications & Publicity
Ugh. This is why I consider the first few years of a prescription being out on the market to just be another phase of their clinical trials. Soooo many drugs get pulled that I wouldn't trust anything until it's been out on the market for a few years. Nancy -
ARCHIVED When Is It Too Late?
Nantzie replied to woofer's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I agree. It sounds like something else is going on. It sounds like it's time for second, third and fourth opinions until the doctors figure it out. Doctors, and those of us with celiac, tend to blame everything on celiac. It's important for the doctors to put that to the side and rule everything else out before they point the finger at celiac at... -

That's great that you've had some good days. I'm sorry you've gotten hit with something again. Those close calls are horrible. Nancy

ARCHIVED Toddler With Celiac?
Nantzie replied to ELB3345's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Honestly, I'd try him on the gluten-free diet and see how he responds. Since there are no medications or treatments that the doctor can offer, the only thing a diagnosis gives you is a word on his chart. Many doctors also recognize that not all gluten issues are classic celiac. So if your son improves and his doctor won't give a diagnosis of celiac... -
ARCHIVED When Is It Too Late?
Nantzie replied to woofer's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I'm sorry you're all going through this too. Your mom's complications may not be celiac related, but they also could be due to "refractory celiac" which basically means celiac that's not healing. I hate to ask the hard questions with your mom being in the hospital so sick and all, but I think it's the only way to be helpful. I'm not sure what... -

ARCHIVED About To Get The Results Of My Celiac Panel
Nantzie replied to micaela27's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I'm not sure very well versed on the IgA. Maybe one of our more science-y members will see this and can help. Since you are under the care of a doctor, and you've already been tested for all sorts of things I'm sure, I'd say you should try the diet (100%) for a few months and see what happens. It's only classic celiac that will show up in blood... -
ARCHIVED About To Get The Results Of My Celiac Panel
Nantzie replied to micaela27's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I always think that people who suspect gluten issues should try the gluten-free diet despite test results. There are just too many of us who tested negative but had life-changing results. It's worth it just to give it a try. There seem to be patterns among those of us with negative tests, based on related "gluten intolerance" genes, that have certain... -
ARCHIVED Medical Alert Bracelets, Etc.

Good point. I was thinking about getting some to keep on hand for me and my kids. For travel, mostly. I was thinking about it when we went to Reno a few weeks ago. We went to the buffett and I wasn't planning on eating, but we were worried that they may not let me in just by me saying I had food issues. So I was thinking about getting one to have... -

I actually just ordered this. My husband has foot problems, so I was thinking it would be good for both of us. It's good to hear that it helped. Nancy -
I read a good perspective on this once. A woman who always wanted to get her degree wanted to wait until her kids were grown. Then she kept talking herself out of it because of her age. "I'd like to get my degree, but in four years I'll be 50." Someone asked her, "And how old will you be in four years if you don't get your degree?" The woman got...

ARCHIVED Stomach Hurts Today
Nantzie replied to LoveBeingATwin's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Some food issues will come and go, and some of them are more long-term. Sometimes your body is still healing and your system is still too delicate. For me, if I eat raw veggies or even an apple, it's still too hard on my stomach. I feel like I'm trying to digest rocks. If I eat even a very small baked potato, I get bloated and it sits in my stomach... -
ARCHIVED How Do I Know
Nantzie replied to shan's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Also keep in mind that baking paper does not provide enough of a barrier on a cookie sheet or whatever to protect her food from previous gluten on the cookie sheet. It actually can leech up through the paper. If you line the pan with foil first, then put the baking paper on, it should be fine. If your pan is scrupulously clean, I'd worry less about this... -

ARCHIVED Screaming For Help!
Nantzie replied to ConcernedMissy30's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I'm so sorry she, and you, are having such a rough road. It sounds like she might be getting gluten somewhere. Are you sure she's 100% gluten-free? No second-hand gluten (cross contamination)? Quite often we hear about the only direction from doctors and dieticians is just don't eat it. Sometimes they don't seem to be aware of things like you have... -
It's relatively common practice. It kind of depends on how you are. I never realized how much I always played with my hair and touched my face until I was trying not to gluten myself with cosmetic and hair stuff that I knew for sure had gluten. I was trying to hang on to a couple things. At the time, I realilzed that I was just not doing well with keeping...

I've been struggling with back issues ever since we moved in Feb. I got too much into being able to lift heavy things (She-Ra!!) and tweaked my back. I had some back strengthening exercises from last summer when I did PT, but I can't find any of the papers. I was wondering if anyone knows of a book or website that has some illustrations for back...

I had no idea how hard it would be when I started. I was 31 when I had Jenny and thought I knew what was coming. After all, I had my own business, had employees. How hard could parenting be? Ha! You know how it is, the only perfect parent is the one who doesn't have kids yet. That was me. Then I had kids. LOL! Nancy

It's definitely possible. If you can get into the habit of washing your hands before you touch your mouth or face and before you touch your food, it makes living in the rest of the world much easier. Most people don't react to touching it, but I've heard that some do. If you haven't already, you also need to check your cosmetics, nail polishes, lotions...

A blonde and a redhead walked into a bar. The brunette ducked. -
I know!!! I think the money I save just in toilet paper and wipes (for the kids) helps to fund all the gluten-free food we eat. Other things that are good - tons. Being able to sleep and actually feel awake the next day. I've always been so leary of waking up early because I've always needed 10-12 hours of sleep, even after the 3-4 hours...
