  1. Sigh... I'm at a loss for words. Nancy
  2. Sorry you're going through this. For some reason this is a common reaction among family and friends. No idea why. It sounds like you're still living at home. If I were you, I'd call the doctor's office myself and tell them that your mom doesn't seem to be taking it as seriously as she should. A lot of the time people think this is like diabetes...
  3. I had negative tests as well. But I respond to the diet just as dramatically as someone with positive tests. Tests are notoriously inaccurate and provide a lot of false negatives. There are a surprising number of people who had either negative or inconclusive tests here. Please try the gluten-free diet just to see if it helps. If I hadn't, I would...
  4. Enterolab is a lab that has an alternate way to test for gluten intolerance. They also offer a more extensive genetic test than most labs. If you've got positive blood tests and a positive biopsy, you don't need any further testing. Testing can be inconclusive or even negative for some, even though they respond to the gluten-free diet just as dramatically...
  5. If you're talking about this one - Open Original Shared Link I think it's reasonably accurate for a non-official test based on my own experience. At times when I've had candida overgrowth also based on my naturopath's diagnosis, the saliva test was positive. When I didn't have problems, it was negative. The clincher for me was when I was having...
  6. I'm praying for her. Let her know she's missed on the board. I'm sure she'll be able to pull off the hairstyle. I vote for blue with black ends. Very current. Nancy
  7. Really..? That's cool. She must be getting a lot of emails about it. Nancy
  8. Oh my gosh. I'm so glad they were able to figure it out. Let her know we're all thinking of her and praying for a speedy improvement. Nancy
  9. Cheese Whiz is a Kraft product. Kraft will always disclose any gluten, in plain English, no matter how small the amount. This is their labeling policy: Open Original Shared Link If wheat, rye, barley or oats isn't in the ingredients and it's Kraft brand Cheese Whiz, not some other brand, it should be fine. A lot of people are dairy intolerant when...
  10. I have a friend who has gluten intolerance who is Asian - Japanese and Hawaiian. She says that in Hawaii when the Europeans came, there was a lot of intermarrying, so she may have some European ancestry that isn't specifically known about. So even though it is more rare than someone of Scandinavian or Irish descent, it is still possible. Also, even before...
  11. You have a smart husband. Just make sure not to kiss him after he's had a beer. My husband eats gluten sometimes when he's out, or if he goes out to lunch when he's at work. So he doesn't feel like he's missing out on anything. Going by my symptoms, I'd say you should be fine by the weekend. Maybe still a little achy, but that's about it...
  12. I order our bread through them. Pamela's Wheat Free Bread - pkg of 6 for 20 bucks. I get free two-day shipping too because I'm an Amazon Prime member. I always forget to mention this because they mostly just sell in multiple packages. Thanks for posting this. Nancy
  13. Definitely. In a way, it's like really bad PMS, especially when you've been glutened really badly. Everything bugs you, everybody is stupid and all you want to do is curl up and be left alone. But then when everyone leaves you alone, you wonder why nobody cares and you just want to be hugged and have a cry. When my kids and I get glutened at the...
  14. I usually have one or two days of the nerve pain and then it starts getting obviously better. It sucks that you're getting cramps on top of it. I hope you feel better tomorrow. Nancy
  15. Okay, now I'm officially excited. Nancy
  16. I hope it's something we can just take occasionally if we choose to, not something we have to take every day to build it up in our bodies. I don't know if I'd do that. At least not until a few years have passed and the FDA doesn't pull it off the shelves because of side effects like they have with so many medications in recent years. And eating out...
  17. Sounds like a glutening to me. I used to get the watery diarrhea all the time. I notice on the gene thread you started that you have one of the same genes I do; DQ1, 0602. When I first got my results back, someone here told me that it was more common to have pain and neuro symptoms with that gene. (Which I was having, big time.) I'd say your back...
  18. My daughter is a big eater too. She seems fill up better if I include a banana in her breakfast or snack. Also, gluten-free pancakes - Pamela's has a good mix. We also do a lot of gluten-free crackers and cheese, but they don't fill her up much. Apples and peanut butter too if she can tolerate them - apples were too rough for me for a while. Applesauce...
  19. Thanks guys... Yea, it's gotta be CC. I don't react this way to soy, although if I eat a lot of it, it can bug my stomach a bit, but not the whole symptom complex. When I first went gluten-free, I thought I'd been glutened by a butterfinger and didn't have one for a while. Then I tried them again and was totally fine. There must be something that...
  20. How exciting!!!!!! I'm going to get a copy too!! Nancy
  21. Oh, how exciting!!! Cannes too??? She must be thrilled. Remember what they say. There is NO SUCH THING as a bit part. She's there. She (and you) should enjoy every minute of it. Keep us posted on all of this and let us know if it comes out on DVD. I'd love to see it. Nancy
  22. I know. It's mind-boggling isn't it? Up until about 10 years ago they had no idea that it was that common. They used to think that it was a rare childhood condition that kids grew out of. In medical school, they were told that they probably would only see one case of it in their entire careers, if that. So even as information has gotten...
  23. Sounds a lot like celiac to me. The only way to really tell, if your doctor won't support you in figuring out what is wrong rather than treat you like he's been treating you, is to just try the gluten-free diet and see if it helps. There are other foods that can cause really bad reactions, so even if it's not gluten, food intolerances of some sort are...
  24. That's awesome. Whole Foods has such great stuff. I tried their hamburger buns and really liked them. The trick is that you have to microwave them and then they get all soft. Yum! Nancy
  25. I don't have candy too often anymore, but a few weeks ago I needed some chocolate (stress!!!) and decided to buy a bag of the fun size Butterfingers, knowing it is on Nestle's gluten-free list. Got glutened. I figured maybe it was because they were the small ones, because I know sometimes the small and holiday shapes of these things have gluten. But...
