  1. Maize is just corn. So it's fine. Some manufacturers like to complicate things for us don't they? Nancy

    ARCHIVED Disneyland

I can't wait to hear how everyone's trip goes. We're hoping to go this year too. Nancy
  3. Oh, I absolutely agree. My dad I'm sure was undiagnosed celiac and he had depression/anxiety/etc. for years. One of the interesting things was that one med he was on they were trying to get it to show up in his bloodwork and it wasn't showing up at the level it should have been. They decided it was because he had a fast metabolism. Because he...
  4. Awesome. I had been worried about this. There have been people here who have been denied insurance because of a celiac diagnosis, so how far behind could jobs be? Whew... Nancy
  5. That's great news! Thanks for posting this. It looks like things are moving along well. Nancy
  6. The one I had twice was the Black Bean and Vegetable Enchiladas, the one I had once was the Shepherd's Pie. This was many months ago, so I'm not sure if I was just unlucky or if they have a real problem. I'm just not brave enough to try them again. Nancy
  7. Mine: HLA-DQB1*0602, 0609 Daughter's: HLA-DQB1*0609, 0301 Son's: HLA-DQB1 Molecular analysis, Allele 1 0301 HLA-DQB1 Molecular analysis, Allele 2 0602 Serologic equivalent: HLA-DQ 3,1 (Subtype 7,6) .......................... Husband hasn't had his done, but he obviously has at least one copy of HLA-DQB1 Molecular analysis...
  8. Yep. Everybody as far as I've ever seen. I don't even have official celiac (borderline blood test, negative biopsy) and I have to be very careful about all that stuff. There are people who choose not to guard against second-hand gluten (cross contamination), but they usually have never tried it. I would compare it to getting a really bad flu (life...
  9. Yes, you need seperate pots and pans. If you have stainless steel ones, you should be able to clean them very, very, VERY well and use them. You also need a new cutting board, new wooden spoons if you use them, sometimes new plastic utensils and plates if they're really scratched up, a new strainer, etc. Heat does not kill gluten. It is not a living...
  10. You'll probably feel a lot better in so many other ways once you're on the gluten-free diet for a while. Celiac tends to have far-reaching symptoms that you'd never think would be connected to something you're eating. Doctors used to think that celiac was a childhood illness that completely went away by adolescence. Now it's known that some kids...
  11. Jessica, I'm so sorry for your loss. Please know that you and your family are in my prayers. I like both poems, but I like the second one best. Hugs, Nancy
  12. Most of the time, even if there are "rules" in place for not letting people bring it outside food, they will allow people with medical diets bring in outside food. The rules are really in place so some dork doesn't bring in Taco Bell or McDonalds. If you don't get a call back, I'd give him a note to take with him saying he's on a medically restricted...
  13. Amy's - definitely. Tested and retested because there are a couple of their products that I loved . But I got the worst glutening I have ever had from their products. Three times. The first time, I figured I must have glutened myself somehow. The second time I tried another product thinking maybe it was just a product specific CC problem. The...
  14. This is what it says on their FAQ - Do I have to be eating gluten for a gluten antibody test to be positive? Because production of antigliadin antibodies is under genetic control, your body continues to make these antibodies for an extended period after gluten is removed from the diet, albeit, in lesser quantities the longer gluten is removed from the...
  15. Our favorite is Bi-Aglut pasta - it's made in Italy. But it is sooo expensive. Worth it every once in a while though. When we served it last Christmas, our family thought it was regular pasta and I was eating something else. Even now, my mother-in-law says she can't tell the difference. Which is very cool. I'm good with Tinkyada most of the...
  16. I use McCormick taco seasoning also. McCormick will label anything in plain english. Wine - I know that wine can have gluten, but I've never been glutened by wine (I better knock on wood quick though...) We get Charles Shaw wine from Trader Joe's a.k.a. Two-Buck-Chuck, sometimes, and I've never had a problem. It's surprisingly good, especially...

    ARCHIVED Black Angus

I actually emailed them about a month ago and this is what they said - Good afternoon, At this time, we do not have a nutrition analysis of our menu items to provide Guests. Black Angus Steakhouse is currently working to have this information available to Guests. Please check our website for updates. Sincerely, Black Angus Steakhouse 4410...
  18. Donna - I agree with your husband. Go back on the gluten-free diet. Your symptoms all sound like celiac. You totally fit in here. So many of us fall into the gray area, so don't worry about being self-diagnosed. It's very common around here. I had negative blood tests and negative biopsy, but going on the gluten-free diet changed my life completely...
  19. I like that logic. Nancy
  20. That is SOOOO Coool... Hope they make a little cookbook out of it. Love new recipes. Nancy
  21. Praying for them. Nancy
  22. I've done it in a pan before too. It works just as well. I've found that if I make a big batch and get them nice and dried out, I can keep them in a container to use whenever I need them, so that's how I do it. But Jerry, if you need a crouton fix in a hurry, do them in a pan. Nancy
  23. 1) Can't do ANYTHING spontaneously anymore. Have to plan and cook the food even for the most basic trips and activities. Went to the park for a playdate yesterday. Never met the people. Didn't know if they would bring snacks to share. Had to bring a bunch of different snacks so my kids wouldn't feel left out of whatever they were having. 2) Having...
  24. I'm in the same boat. I hate the term intolerant. Makes it sound like I'm completely turning my life upside down so I won't get a tummy ache. Most of the time I say I have celiac disease. If I'm ordering in a restaurant for example. It just makes things more straightforward. Sometimes it's the first time the waiter has ever heard of it, so...
  25. 1) I've learned to cook. Same thing though - like to cook, hate to clean up. 2) I feel better than I ever remember feeling. 3) I don't feel like I'm in a constant battle with my body. 4) I'm not overly concerned that I'm going to die before my kids are grown up. 5) I know that my kids and grandkids will never have to go through years...
