ARCHIVED Mood Swings?
Nantzie replied to madlinmom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
YES!!! My mood swings were awful. I get really irritable if I get glutened - angry, anxious, depressed, tearful, etc. I also get nightmares and insomnia, so if he's not getting good sleep when he's been glutened, it may be related to his reaction as well. Nancy -
ARCHIVED Confused About Genetic Testing Results
Nantzie replied to DebW's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I have DQ1 (double). The neuro problems are the worst part for me. I came across celiac as a way to stop my GI problems, but it turns out my mobility problems (I could barely walk by the time I found out about celiac), fibro-type pain, insomnia, nightmares, headaches, anxiety, depression, anger, memory problems, social anxiety, etc. were all due to gluten... -

If I wasn't so shy in real life, I'd be out there already. I've thought a lot about educating restaurants. One of the issues is I don't know how I'd charge for it in order to make it a business. I can't afford spending that much time on something without figuring out a way to make it a business. If we could figure out some sort of formula,...

Oh yea, my Grandma had schizophrenia. She also at one point wasnt' eating wheat. My mom told me once that she used to eat these weird cookies called Digestives. Lo and behold, one of my first online orders for gluten-free food and what did they have? - Digestives. I think she may have been told she had celiac at one point. My mom also said that... -
ARCHIVED Why Doesn't Heat Destroy Gluten?
Nantzie replied to little-c's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
That doesn't sound right to me. It's probably the thorough cleaning and not the bleach. I'm sure some of our more science-y members will be able to tell us for sure. Nancy -
ARCHIVED Why Doesn't Heat Destroy Gluten?
Nantzie replied to little-c's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Gfp will have the best answer, but this is what I remember - Gluten isn't a bacteria or virus. It's the protein component of the grain. You can't kill it. It would be like being allergic to peanuts and saying that if you cooked them long enough or at high enough temperature, they would no longer be peanuts. So the little bits of gluten just float... -
ARCHIVED So Now That I Know That I Have To Watch Out For More Than Just Food...
Nantzie replied to justme's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I use Pantene products. They will also label everything. Read the ingredients thoroughly. If there's no gluten listed, it's fine. There's also a company that specially makes gluten-free shampoos = www.gfsoap.com I LOVE their stuff, but it's always easier to just grab the pantene at walmart, ya know? Nancy -

ARCHIVED Is This Just Wishful Thinking?
Nantzie replied to EVERYBODY'SAUNTIE's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Welcome! I had fibro-type pain symptoms for about three years before I figured out the gluten connection. Mine went away after I went gluten-free. Poof! Now the only time I have it is if I get "glutened". Since you've already been eating low carb for a while I'd seriously doubt any tests would come back positive. They say you have to eat the... -
ARCHIVED Left Doctors Appointment Feeling Perplexed....
Nantzie replied to Islandgirl's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
There's so much Cheese Standing Alone people here that we could open up our own cheese shop. I was curious about how many people here had an official diagnosis that I did a poll here a few months ago. Of the people who answered, only about 40% had an official diagnosis. Finding that out really surprised me, and made me feel more confident in a lot of... -
ARCHIVED Tested For Celiac... What Now?
Nantzie replied to Tripletmomma2000's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You're welcome. We're glad to have you. You've got a smart hubby to keep the gluten stuff in the garage. Just remind him to be careful not to get crumbs on his clothes and wash his hands when he comes in. My husband eats gluten sometimes for lunch at work. There have been a few times he's brought gluten home, but he always eats it outside. It... -
ARCHIVED Plane Turbulence
Nantzie replied to UNCHeel's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
The last three years of my undiagnosed days (18 years total) I developed sharp, shooting, shock-like pains in my back and hips. Any unexpected movement just killed me. No idea why that is, but I've heard other people mention it too. The only time I get it now is if I'm glutened. If you know your genetic type, I'd be interested to know if you... -

ARCHIVED Might Be A Stupid Question...

Yep, you've got to wash your hands. The best thing to do is to get into the habit of washing your hands before you eat or put them anywhere near your mouth. Nancy -
ARCHIVED Celiac Testing Event, Salt Lake City
Nantzie replied to Nantzie's topic in Publications & Publicity
Yes. Geneology is finding out about your ancestors and where came from. Usually looking up old census records, newspaper articles, marriage, birth and death certificates, etc. It's big in the US since many of us aren't sure. In Europe it's not something most people seem to do because you generally know. Unfortunately here, especially in the early... -
6wbmo is great. You can join the message boards there without buying it. It's a great group of people, kind of like here. Open Original Shared Link They have a rule that they can't discuss the specifics but you can get a vague idea of it by doing the body type analysis and then seeing what the people with your body type are eating for different meals...

ARCHIVED Just Got Results And What's This Double Dq Thing You Talk About?
Nantzie replied to LynneM's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Some of us have double DQ1, which tends to predispose to more neurological, pain and mobility problems (fibromyalgia is a common one), sleep problems and mood issues as well as GI issues. I have double DQ1. My genes are - Serologic equivalent: HLA-DQ 1,1 (Subtype 6,6). The DQ1 gene you have happens to be the same as the one I have double of. ... -

ARCHIVED Finger Foods?
Nantzie replied to 2boysmama's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I love the idea of the quartered grapes in the rice cereal - make sure you get the gluten-free kind - Rice Krispies has barley malt in it for some infuriating reason. He might be a little young for this, but maybe some small pieces of gluten-free crackers with Easy Cheese - the spray cheese in the areosol can (not the bacon kind - it has gluten) . ...
