Thanks guys. I appreciate what all of you said. Excellent points and advice all around. Nancy -
We're meeting some friends in Reno tomorrow night and I have no idea what to drink. I'm one of the lucky ones who has a reaction to vodka, so that's out. Don't like Rum, plus it always gives me a hangover. I've been sick a bunch this week, so I'm not in the mood to question the bartender about every ingredient. I just want something simple and straightforward...

ARCHIVED Fortune Cookies
Nantzie replied to Jennas-auntie's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I haven't made fortune cookies, but I successfully made a Scandinavian cookie that is kind of the same idea. You make the cookie, then you have to roll it around a cone quickly in order to make the cookie into a cone shape. I totally didn't think it would work, but it actually did. Here's the post I did about it - Open Original Shared Link Good... -
ARCHIVED A Celiac That Found He Could Eat Wheat Bread
Nantzie replied to Julie-uk-nz's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Very interesting. The theory about us not preparing our grains properly may partly explain how we got from "Bread is the staff of life" in biblical times, to 1 out of 133 people have celiac today. Hmmm... Nancy -
ARCHIVED Cant Find That Message That Was Posted
Nantzie replied to holdthegluten's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Try searching for the member name " NoGluGirl " or " Nini " . I know both of them have a list of things that are helpful for new members. Recently, it would probably be NoGluGirl . Nancy -

ARCHIVED Slow Digestion
Nantzie replied to dirtdiver's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yes! You're definitely barking up the right tree. Your doctor is very smart, and even knows that the tests they have for celiac just aren't very conclusive in most cases. Trying the gluten-free diet is really the only way to tell if your body is reacting to gluten. You're in the right place to learn about the gluten-free diet. Reading the archives... -
ARCHIVED Need Advice About Going Back To Work As A Teacher...
Nantzie replied to Walter S's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Absolutely. Depression, fatigue, dizzy, sleeping problems, concentration and memory problems... It feels overwhelming at first, especially when you're just trying to figure everything out. But believe us when we say that it does get easier. It won't be long before you'll be here giving advice too. I promise. When I joined the board a couple years... -
ARCHIVED 10 Good Things About Celiac
Nantzie replied to Mtndog's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
A couple weeks ago my husband and I went away for a few days. During my pre-vacation shopping I discovered something. I weigh 155 now. (You're all sworn to secrecy by the way. ). But I am the same size in clothing now as when I weighed 125; medium shirts, 8-10 pants. When I was 155 and gaining, moderately symptomatic, I was an XL and a 14... -
The regular search function is just limited that way. It's the way this message board software was written, and there's no way to do anything about it. But, Scott has put a link on this page - up at the top where there's a search box with the example of tomato sauce, showing how we can use that box to do a more advanced search. You can even search...

ARCHIVED 10 Things I Hate About Celiac
Nantzie replied to Mtndog's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I don't think anyone mentioned hating anyone. Being angry or upset or sad or frustrated and wishing family or friends or co-workers understood is completely different than hating someone. Hating what someone does doesn't mean you hate them. I get what you're saying though. In vent form - You hate it when people with celiac get angry with other people... -

ARCHIVED Lost A Good Friend Yesterday
Nantzie replied to confused's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I'm so sorry for your loss. I'm praying for you all. I was thinking a beef stew or chicken soup, maybe some veggies and dip. Healthy eating is something that nobody wants to deal with, but if it's in front of them it's easy and comforting to eat. It's also something that someone can eat just a little bit of if they're not in the mood to eat, and... -
ARCHIVED 10 Things I Hate About Celiac
Nantzie replied to Mtndog's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I agree. I'm 98% up and positive about all of this. It's changed my life SO much for the better, but some of it just sucks. Being chronically ill is hard and when other people don't understand or think you're being over the top with it, it's a hundred times worse than it should be. I know every one of us have gone through this with other people. Some... -
ARCHIVED When Potatoes Turn Green
Nantzie replied to StrongerToday's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
This is from the Idaho Potato Commission - Open Original Shared Link. They address the green potato thing and eating them raw, but I didn't see anything about the little black spots. Is there any validity to the notion that the growths that form on potatoes after they have been sitting for quite some time is poisonous, and at the same time is also true... -
ARCHIVED Need Advice About Going Back To Work As A Teacher...
Nantzie replied to Walter S's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I don't see anything that shouldn't be gluten-free. You might want to search the forum and see if anyone has any problems with any of the brands. But I agree that it could be a matter of too much processed stuff too soon. Another thing you need to verify is your prescriptions and any over-the-counter stuff you're taking. They use gluten as a binder... -
ARCHIVED Just Needing To Vent...not Really Related To Anything, Just My Life
Nantzie replied to Sweetfudge's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
There's a saying that I've found to be completely true - There's a big difference between falling in love and being in love. You're in love. You're just not falling anymore. You've reached the foundation where a marriage is built - from the ground up. My marriage has had it's ups and downs, and there have been times where I had no idea why I was... -
ARCHIVED Need Advice About Going Back To Work As A Teacher...
Nantzie replied to Walter S's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
It's common for nutritionists not to be as knowledgeable about gluten and casein as they should be. It's not that they don't care, it's just the state of medical science right now. So my questions would be regarding your food. Some common inaccurate information given by nutritionists and health food store workers are that you can eat spelt, kamut...
