  1. I always used to get nauseous, headachy and really anxious and upset when I paid bills. It made sense when we were barely making ends meet, but once we started making enough money to live within our means, I thought I just hated paying bills for some reason. Once I learned about gluten being a possible ingredient in the adhesive, SO much made sense...
  2. I remember skeletons being in the hallway back when I was four. I had a hard time sleeping as far back as I remember. Once I went gluten-free, I pretty much sleep like a baby other than when I've been glutened. Then it's back to the nightmares and anxiety dreams. That's the worst part of being glutened as far as I'm concerned. I can take the pain and...
  3. A lot of good points here.. Does anyone remember years ago they used to advertise a medical alert ID card that was made of metal that you put in your wallet? I think it used to be in the Miles Kimball catalog, but they don't have it anymore. Now I'm tossing around the idea of getting at least a keychain or something. Nancy
  4. I'm praying for her. Nancy
  5. I agree. Normally it would be fine, just like normally wheat is fine. But he may have uncovered a sensitivity that he was unaware of. Nancy
  6. Yea, there's always a theoretical chance. I had a scary thought though. Could you imagine getting amnesia and having to figure this stuff out all OVER again? Yikes! Nancy
  7. I don't but it was one of the things I was thinking about early-on too. We've discussed this a couple times before. The thing that made me feel comfortable NOT wearing one is that if you were in an accident and couldn't speak up for yourself, they wouldn't be giving you solid food anyway. It's not until you have a certain level of conciousness that they...
  8. I'm getting some data together to write something about eating out, travel and celiac disease. Not quite sure what I'm going to do with it yet. But it's been bouncing around in my head. I'd love to hear any experiences about how your dining life changed after going gluten-free as well. Were you a fast food/frozen food junkie (me!) and had to go cold...
  9. The ice cream place is the Tasty Time on Blue Ravine. I haven't been there, so make sure you call ahead and ask first. Nancy
  10. Happy Birthday!!! Nancy
  11. I found this on amazon. There are several reviews that discuss what's in the book. Open Original Shared Link .com/Weight-Loss-Cure-The...8197&sr=8-1 Nancy
  12. Makes ya leary about that celiac pill they're working on too. It seems like the first couple years on the market is really the last "phase" of finding out what a pill really does to people. Nancy
  13. Kelly Ripa calls it The Terrible Twos and The God-Awful Threes. With both my kids 3 was much worse than 2. It's not you, it's the age. Even if you weren't pregnant you'd want to pull your hair out, so I admire how well you're doing. I had a similar thing going on when I was pregnant with my second. No help, no time, no choices, no money. I'm...
  14. I use a lot of the Pantene stuff. You have to read the label because I think some of it has gluten, but a lot of it doesn't. I'm very reactive to haircare products and cosmetics, so I've grown to trust them to label everything accurately. Nancy
  15. Yep. Sounds like celiac. The gluten-free diet sounds overwhelming when you're on the outside looking in, but once you know what you're doing it's totally easy. There are lots of mainstream goodies that are gluten-free too, which is a good way to show kids that going gluten-free may not be as limiting as they may think. It's always nice to be able to...
  16. Wow.. Good article. My dad died of stomach cancer in Dec 2004. Even though I never saw anything mentioning a connection if you had undiagnosed celiac, it made sense to me that that may have played a role. So I figured that I at least had less of a risk for that. But I never heard anything about the chance of breast cancer being increased. Since...
  17. I had the exact same thing happen when I was pregnant. It was before I knew anything about celiac or any other kind of food intolerances and how dramatically they can effect your body. Nancy
  18. I'm guessing that last paragraph was referring to some sort of unsupportive family experience. I know when I first found out about this, I wanted a firm diagnosis just so my family would get off my back and stop rolling their eyes and accusing me of making it up or trying to get attention or being a hypochondriac. If that's the case, just do what you...
  19. I have two copies of DQ1, subtype 6. My kids both have 1,6 and 3,7. So my husband must have at least one copy of 3,7. I've seen a lot of the 1,6 and the 3,7 being mentioned by people here, so I know those are definitely genes that cause severe problems. Nancy
  20. This is weird. I haven't had anything with tapioca in it for two days. Today I woke up with only about a level 3 back pain rather than the 8-9 it had gotten to. It has just been building up slowly for several months up to a level 4 or 5. Not bad, but enough to cause me some issues. But then over the last two months it has gotten so bad that I have...
  21. My family is the same way. Nobody talks to each other. It wouldn't surprise me a bit if I found out that celiac was a known problem in my family for decades that nobody mentioned. But, to be honest this disease really is isolating and humilitating in some respects. Then there's the psychological symptoms and mood changes that are often associated...
  22. There are SO many people here, myself included, who have either negative tests or inconclusive tests. Not having a definite diagnosis isn't an issue here. Testing for celiac just isn't very good. You're more than welcome to just kick off your shoes, make yourself comfy and join right in. Nancy
  23. My husband was the same way. He ended up completely turning around though and we have two gluten-free kids and a gluten-free household now. He eats gluten-free at home and if he wants something with gluten he eats it when he goes to lunch at work. In Oct of 2005 he yelled at me for about an hour accusing me of being a hypochondriac, trying to make...
