  1. I think this is a great idea. Hopefully we'll all be able to put all of our heads together and figure something short, to the point and scary to the staff. I always thought that the mention of the possibility of noxious gas and instantaneous diarrhea might scare them enough to pay attention. But I also don't want to be gross just to make my point....
  2. I have a 3yo daughter who has the appetite of a grown person, but she is as skinny as a rail. I've always figured it had to do with growth spurts, but since finding out about celiac and nutrition deficiency presenting as hunger, I've had a nagging feeling about it. She will eat a whole grown-up sized PB&J with chips or crackers or fruit or whatever...

    ARCHIVED ~~venting~~

Cinda, I'm so sorry for all you've been through. I've gone through some difficult things in my life, and I wanted to share some advice that someone else gave me -- Remember that your pain is yours. It doesn't matter that someone else may have gone through what you or anyone else see as more or worse. Pain is pain, whether it is emotional, physical...

    ARCHIVED ~~venting~~

Cinda, First of all, big {{{HUGS}}} to you. I still don't know for sure if I have celiac or any other gluten problem, but I've been dealing with the symptoms of it all my adult life, as well as what can be very painful scoliosis. For some reason, healthy people don't have any concept of what it is like to have health issues every single day for years...
  5. Woo Hoo!!!!! I'm so glad your appointment went well and that they listened to you. Nancy P.S. to Elonwy -- I was just pulling a number out of the air to go along with my tangent. But that's about right isn't it? A doctor in his mid to late 50's would have been in med school around 30 years ago? Anyway... Nothing specific meant by it. And I...
  6. Bodyflex. Seriously. It totally works. Open Original Shared Link If you can find just the basic tapes (just the breathing), that's really what does it. The "gymbar" is an unnecessary piece of junk, in my opinion. Also, hypnobirthing; as done by Hypnobabies. www.hypnobabies.com Threelac for candida. www.globalhealthtrax.com Airborne...
  7. I don't know about you guys, but I'm old enough to remember an aunt being told by her doctor that there was no such thing as PMS. And I read once that PMS basically used to be considered a form of hysteria. She read about it in Reader's Digest (or something), and it matched symptoms that she had been complaining to her doctor about for years. She...
  8. I would, at some point during the appt, in a sincere and calm voice, ask him if he is planning on doing any more testing on you, or if he believes that your symptoms are psychosomatic and believes there is nothing more he can do. The trick here is to stay very, VERY calm. Speak in an even voice. Don't be confrontational or argumentative at all. The...
  9. Oh my gosh! That's a GREAT idea. I like your tactical plan too. Nancy
  10. I have had really great success with Airborne. That stuff is amazing. I used to be succeptable to every cold/flu that went around. Now, I've been using it for every cold/flu that I've had for the last year or so, and I have yet to have a cold/flu ever fully develop since then. But then I see my kids (who are still too young for even the Airborne Jr....
  11. Have you talked to your insurance company and found out what the procedure is for changing doctors? I'm very lucky that the insurance we get through my husband's work is really good. If a doctor ever were to even look at me cross-eyed, I could change to a completely different doctor the next day if I wanted to. But even some of the more strict insurances...
  12. Thanks guys. I've been reading some of the threads on gluten ataxia the last couple of days, and I'm getting a sinking feeling that this may be an issue. My grandmother (the one with schizophrenia) also had Parkinson's, as did her brother. And I have a cousin on my dad's side who has multiple sclerosis. I've also noticed that I've been getting slurred...
  13. I've already decided that once I have exhausted all of my testing options, and/or the doctors' willingness to help me try and figure this out, I'm still going to go gluten-free. If I can't get a specific diagnosis, I'm basically going to go on a really strict and intense gluten-free diet. I would suggest for you to do a trial of naturally gluten-free...

    ARCHIVED Sacramento Doctors?

I'm in the Sacramento area. I just heard about celiac a couple months ago, so I'm still in the pre-diagnosis phase. I went to a doctor appt (internist) about a month ago, and all she ordered was an IgG and an IgA. Didn't even have tTG or any of the other tests on her list that she could even order. She didn't seem to know much about celiac, but was really...
  15. Hey Lynne - is that kind of like the Bless His Heart clause? Let's try it... --- My husband called me a hypochondriac, bless his heart. Kind of makes you almost feel sorry for him doesn't it...? And with the notebook thing, it's been all I can do not to start a whole organizational system. If my husband thinks just visiting a message...
  16. It looks like maybe they should add one more thing to the already huge list of symptoms -- If you've ever been called a hypochondriac, a drama queen or been accused of making health problems up to get attention.... you MIGHT have Celiac Disease. Claire, you'd better make sure that mouse is gluten free... I forgot a couple of symptoms too ...
  17. Thanks everybody. I'm sorry I haven't replied back. I actually thought I did until I was re-reading this. Hmmm... Brain fog much? I'm definitely going to do whatever I can as far as diagnosis goes, because his family for some reason seems to believe that nothing bad ever happens to anybody and if you ignore something long enough it will go...
  18. I did a partial thing with this. It takes several visits to do the complete run of it. I ended up not being able to finish due to a change in job circumstances, but I got about a third of the way through it. Honestly, I haven't had much of a problem with nasal allergies since then, and that was about 6 years ago. But you're right. Celiac is genetic...
  19. CeliacMe, You might want to repost that question in the area for parents with kids who have celiac. I'm not sure about most of your questions, and the people who know probably won't see the question under this subject. As far as what I do know, tTG is the name of one of the blood tests for celiac. The test kit I ordered only needs a small amount...
  20. I can't believe it. Here I was, thinking he was being quietly supportive, and it turns out he was just gathering ammunition to throw back at me. What a jerk. To be honest, I think he's just worried about me because I feel so awful, and there's nothing he can do about it. Nothing makes a man feel more helpless than a problem he can't fix. And men...
  21. LOL!!!
  22. From what I understand, tTG is most specific for celiac disease, and in some areas of Europe they are actually considering using it as the ultimate screening test rather than biopsy, especially for kids. I think I've read that tTG actually indicates how much damage there is to the intestinal villi. And for the most part, celiac is what causes the damage...
  23. Just because someone comes on a board where there are other people who are going through the same thing every day, to rant about someone who did something insensitive doesn't mean she doesn't have a thick skin. She's been dealing with this since she was two. I think that guarantees a thick skin. All I had when I was a teenager was braces and glasses, and...
  24. I ordered the tTG test kit from York a couple of weeks ago. I was a little worried that they didn't get my order because they still hadn't charged me. So I called them today and found out the coolest thing. They now have an at-home tTG kit. Meaning, you have the results in front of you in like 5 minutes. He said it's literally like reading a home...
  25. If I remember right, in the Jewish tradition (I think?) God's name is considered so holy that you're not supposed to say (or write) it out loud. So when a person is writing about God, they spell it G-d. That way they don't break that rule, but still everybody knows what is meant. Hopefully I got at least some of this right. But back to the...
